Our third stay at Galena Cottage.. All very comfortable and homely. We seemed to be plagued by flies on this occasion - lots of them, inside the house, on arrival, taking 3 days of repeated spraying to eradicate. This property has fly guards on all the windows. Perhaps the cleaners had not put them down? However, we did not allow them to detract from our stay and we are looking forward to our next one in 2021.

Really great location for the Peak District, excellent cottage with excellent facilities.. The only feedback we have is that the only downside was that the cottage was on a semi busy B road where the cars and other large vehicles drove very fast. Not good if you have dogs who aren’t very good with traffic as the nearest public footpath is a short walk along the busy main road.

Excellent cottage with great facilities in a beautiful location.. Would have been nice to have a bbq provided but we managed with disposables so this would not put me off booking again.

My friends and I (3 couples) have stayed in a number of wonderful Sykes cottages over the past 10 years across the UK.. We all agree that Galena Cottage is the best! Before we arrived the owners sent us very detailed information about the history of the cottage and the location. They provided information about local pubs, restaurants and cafes and these were all excellent. The cottage itself is immaculately clean throughout. The fixtures and furnishings are all of a very high standard. The accommodation is such that we were able to spread ourselves across two lounges. This enabled quiet conversations with friends in the small snug area and we all used the the many games provided in the other lounge. The location is spectacular with views across the peaks. We were able to access excellent walks in the peaks from the cottage We plan to return and have already recommended the cottage to family and friends.

Lovely cosy, clean and welcoming cottage that truly is dog friendly with amazing walks right on the doorstep. The local cafes and pubs were really friendly and had lovely food. We are looking forward to returning next year! Thank you for a lovely long weekend, our greyhounds loved it too!

The cottage is well equipped - however the lounge and snug need a refurb - the lounge could be made more comfortable by throws etc.. ..., the snug,a new carpet! -the beds are comfortable enough but, as you would expect the floorboards creak a lot due to the age of the property. The cottage is homely and the village is great for walks, can recommend the Yondermans cafe at the bottom of the hill. Bakewell,Tideswell and Eyam were great places to visit -all in all a great Christmas break.

This cottage is ideally located near Monsal Head and is close to Ashford in the Water and Litton Dale, so it makes a great place to stay to go on great rambles.. The cottage is super dog friendly and the owners are extremely helpful and responsive. When we arrived on a cold wet late afternoon the heating had been turned on and it was cosy warm and very inviting. Having a washing machine and dryer was very useful for muddy clothes after a day out in the hills. The kitchen is extremely well equipped, but it is walking distance to the yondermann cafe at the end of the road if you dont want to cook breakfast. The only comment I would make is the steps to the garden perhaps need rethinking. They are deep and steep and very slippery. Ideally they could be changed to provide more steps on a slower slope so that they are more child/elderly friendly. But if you have very young children you need to watch them on the steps. Other than that, its an amazing place and I would go back definitely.

A spacious, clean, comfortable and well-equipped cottage in the small hamlet of Wardlow, meaning easy access in all directions to key tourist attractions / walks in the Peak District. We stayed in Galena Cottage, as a family of 7, comprising of 4 adults, 2 children, and Lily the dog. The owners have put a lot of thought into this cottage. We were greeted with bread, milk, biscuits, & wine, and Lily the dog had beds, drinking bowls and some treats too! The beds were super comfy for a good nights sleep. The kitchen was well equipped. My children were impressed with the Wi-Fi, and smart TV enabling them to access our own Netflix and Amazon accounts for movies. Most rooms also had Bluetooth sound systems so they could play their tunes. They were also able to access DVD's and plenty of games for family entertainment. There are many walks from the house, and the owner has provided OS maps which shows footpaths from Wardlow to Cressbrook Dale. We started on this walk, but with snow underfoot, it was a bit too slippery to do this time, but having read up on it, seems to be a very beautiful walk to do in better weather. A short drive away, is Monsal Head and from here we walked to Ashford in the Water (one way) along the River Wye. The Ashford Arms for Sunday lunch was nice. Other walks were from the Monsal Trail at Millers Dale, completing a walk at Chee Dale; the kids loved the stepping stones in the river. Another walk from LadyBower Reservoir to Winn Hill. All within short driving distance from the house. We have stayed in various Peak District cottages for a number of years now, and I would definitely return to this cottage.

The cottage was beautifully rural, private and yet with nearby excellent amenities. The kitchen was particularly well equipped and all rooms cosily and very adequately furnished. It's situated perfectly for popular Peak District walks from Monsal Trail to Mam Tor. Highly impressed. Would definitely visit again.

The cottage was perfect for the five of us, with the two en-suites and family bathroom. Really loved the location as the next villages were only a 10 minute drive if that. Plenty of dog walking nearby and most importantly good pubs, serving good food!
