We tend to do our research before deciding on somewhere to holiday.. Furnace Cottage had everything we needed, well equipped, great location and with walking / cycling on our doorstep. Drying room excellent but not really needed, thankfully. Very cosy so log fire used just a couple of nights. WiFi good enough to stream on several devices and for our student son to attend uni lectures remotely before we headed out to enjoy the lakes and local attractions. For any cyclists, local hill climb at Knottallow Tarn offers stunning views of Morecambe Bay and Coniston Old Man.

We had a lovely time - really nice cottage, great location, friendly hosts, the builders next door didn’t bother us at all.. There was a communications problem about the fact we wanted one of the double beds to be two singles (our message didn’t reach the hosts in advance vi booking.com) and there was no way for them to provide us extra single bed sheets. However this didn’t spoil our holiday and we appreciated the apology over voicemail.
COVID precautions were very good. We found that there wasn’t any sugar, or kitchen rolls or spare toilet rolls, which we would have expected.
All in all though, very happy with our stay.

Great location for the first half of The Cumbria Coastal Way with six separate beds in three rooms. Good drying facilities and well equipped kitchen. Comfortable lounge with a Smart Television. Close to Ulverston which has amazing pubs for suppers especially The Stan Laurel and The Rose and Crown.

We were a group of five ladies doing the start of the Cumbrian Coastal Way and the location of the cottage was ideal for us and the fact that it had five separate beds was a winner! Although there were perfect cooking facilities in the cottage we only ate breakfast and made packed lunches which was great for us. The pubs and eating places in Ulverston were excellent especially The Stan Laurel and The Rose and Crown. We got as far as Green Road Station near Millom and decided to call it a day because of the wet weather. Drying facilities in the cottage were excellent.

Really happy with the property, it was beyond expectations.. Really good size rooms and layout, very clean and tidy, great facilities all wrapped up in a very nice country cottage. The parking was off the street in its own drive which could accommodate up to 4 cars. I would definitely rent this property again.

The cottage was stunning, very comfortable and welcoming, it had everything you could possibly need and was in a great location for pottering about the South Lakes.. Lovely little touches, such as tea, coffee and milk upon our arrival. The log fire /burner was beautiful on a cold night and the drying / utility room was particularly helpful.
Don't forget to check out the secret garden and also take a walk around the corner to the left as there is a little history plaque about the cottage. We also walked up to John Barrow Monument which has stunning views for miles.
Would definitely go back to this beautiful cottage.
Thank you,

We had a lovely week at Furnace Cottage. It is well located, in a quiet hamlet yet just a short drive to shops and restaurants in Ulverston, as well as being close to many attractions. We were able to enjoy both the lakes and the beach from this location, without long car journeys.
We received a very warm welcome on arrival and the owner was very helpful, providing additional information on local activities during our stay. The accommodation is excellent, the cottage is warm and well equipped with everything we could need for a home from home holiday. Our 3 young children loved playing in the garden (and secret garden!) and enjoyed watching the lambs in the field across from the cottage, as well as walking In the woods at the back.
