January 2022
We have just returned from a week's stay in Dunira in the pretty village of Falkland.
We were quite impressed by the cottage on first sight . Unfortunately that didn't last long due to:
No doors to and in living toom and kitchen except for back door. Draught and cold came in . We made two makeshift doors as it was so draughty , see pics.
We were told we couldnt increase the heating for the radiators, so suffered for 3 days trying to keep warm until we complained to the owner and Sykes Cottages & we were then able to increase the heating pressure in the boiler.
We had a wood burner fire which eventually warmed up the living room .
The stairs are very steep: not suitable for people with mobility issues. This isn't mentioned on Sykes Web site, nor is noise from The back of the Covenanters pub when they empty their bottles in the bins next to the cottage & when they get a beer barrel delivery which goes round the side and back of the cottage to the back entrance of the pub. Not much fun at 7.30 am !
It isn't a dog friendly cottage please be aware of this- the front door leads immediately onto the road ,not safe for a boisterous dog. The living area is too small for a large dog to move around in one small area and a kitchen.
Plus points though the bath is very deep, shower pressure is good.
The bed is very comfortable .
Kitchen reasonable size & provides most equipment.
Falkland is lovely and worth a visit but not to this cottage.
