Area
Old Carlton-in-Coverdale is a charming village in the Yorkshire Dales, nestled in a tiny valley bordered by towering fells, and is one of the best kept secrets in the region. In the past, Coverdale was a popular route for packhorses to go between Wharfedale and Skipton. Traditional ancient stone-built cottages, a few farms, guest houses, and the village tavern, The Foresters, make up the settlement. In the valley below, the river Cover flows. Penhill and Roova may be seen on either side of Carlton. With its adventure gardens and eateries, the Forbidden Corner is a terrific place to take the whole family.

Region
From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

The brochure did not make clear that the garden was shared.. The weather stopped us from wanting to sit in the garden but we had booked it thinking it was for our use only. Had this been made clear we would have looked for another cottage. It is a very pretty garden and nice to look onto but I think the fact that it is not for the sole use of the cottage should be made clear for future parties.

Very nice cottage and one that we certainly intend to return to at sometime in the future.. Its was well presented and equipped, clean and comfortable with all the facilities that we would expect. Nice location too, easy to get around the dales from and convenient. I would definitely recommend this cottage.

It would be worth mentioning to Martin that we had trouble with the hot water lasting all day, tried to give it a boost in the evening but it failed to work.. So we were not able to have baths. It was not a big problem on this holiday as we were not doing our usual long walks, hence why we forgot to mention it to the owner. If you wish to add any comment to your cottage reviews. You could say that the cottage is in a peaceful location and offers the opportunity to park the car for most of the week and enjoy fairly easy walking from the door. You can publish the comment if you wish, with no surname please. Thanks Alison.

Pleasant and comfortable well equipped cottage. Plenty of parking, lovely garden, friendly and helpful owner. Easy walking distance to a good pub. Only drawback is narrow twisting roads, like many others in the Dales.

The cottage is in a good location to explore the dales.. It is comfortable and cosy, yet spacious. The large garden has great views. We would definitely consider returning one day.

A great place to spend a relaxing September week.. The cottage was cosy, we didn't need to light the log burner. The village has a pub but no other shop, Leyburn is the nearest country town. Richmond and Catterick Garrison have typical modern shops. When traveling around most places offer coffee in the pub. There are many paths around Carlton to explore the less visited dale.

The owners were very welcoming and the setting of the cottage is delightful with the large garden a particular bonus.. The cottage is very spacious with much thought evidently gone into providing visitors with everything needed for an enjoyable stay.

Lovely, well-equipped cottage with pretty much everything we could need.. Beautifully clean and with a lovely garden. Owners, who live next door, are friendly and there if you need them. Worth noting that there is no mobile signal at all (specifically on Vodaphone and EE) so losing access to Google maps means it's difficult to locate the cottage. If driving from Leyburn, it's approximately 270 metres on the left after the Carlton village sign. Wifi at the cottage was good but you have to walk up to beyond the pub or up one of the hills to get mobile signal (we needed it to contact elderly parents). Would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone wanting to explore the area.

We were looking for a relaxed Dales break and weren't disappointed.. To be able to open the back door and see a beautiful garden and the hills was brilliant. The cottage was equipped with everything we needed, and if you're into walking you can set off from the front door.

The cottage exceeded our expectations.. It was spacious and beautifully presented with everything we needed for our holiday. The outdoor area and garden was a highlight and our 3 year old loved having outdoor space to play in. The location of the cottage was ideal with a lot of places within 30 minute drive. We visited Wensleydale Creamery, Aysgarth Falls, Masham and Forbidden Corner. All great places! I would highly recommend this cottage you will not be disappointed.

Really friendly owners; beautiful garden with good spots to sit quietly with a brew after breakfast (on sunny mornings) and lovely view over Coverdale; kitchen table with a great view in the morning; really peaceful location - great for walking from the door but easy access to the main route through Wensleydale if you wish to go touring.. Everything you need in a Dales cottage.

We fully enjoyed our long weekend at this cosy cottage.. Dagmar, the owner, was very friendly and everything was well organised. The cottage itself offers beds for 5 people. Everything that one needs was there. It was very clean. We loved the fireplace. The cottage is very nicely located with great views and only a few minutes drive to Forbidden Corner (well recommended if you have kids) and some very nice pubs and restaurants. We will come again!
