If the latter is what you are after, a visit to Grasmoor (0.5 miles), Haystacks (17 miles) and Mellbreak (4 miles) provide ample opportunity for hiking with the promise of spectacular views at the top. If you ve misplaced your walking sticks, visit Buttermere village to load up on supplies and treat the group to a picnic on the shores of Crummock Water. The adventure capital of the Lake District, Keswick, is only 11.5 miles away where you can try ghyll scrambling, canyoning, kayaking, paddleboarding or Via Ferrata. When you re ready to slow it down, visit Cockermouth (7.5 miles), the birthplace of William Wordsworth. As soon as you enter this property, you feel completely welcome as the sofas in front of the fire encourage you to sit down and sink into an evening of relaxation with the TV, DVD and iPod dock at hand.
