Area
This part of Northumberland is famous for its unspoilt beauty, and is widely recognised as having some of the most picturesque countryside in the whole of England. The area offers a wonderful combination of coastline and countryside, having long sandy beaches and the Cheviot Hills complementing each other perfectly. There are also a great number of well-preserved and spectacular medieval castles and stately homes in the area, including the fantastic Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland and often referred to as "The Windsor of the North". Alnwick itself was once a prosperous medieval market town, being only a day's ride from Berwick-upon-Tweed in the north and Newcastle upon Tyne in the south. It is still a charming maze of cobbled streets and narrow alleys, whilst its fine stone buildings now house a range of specialist shops and family-run businesses. Visitors can still enjoy the atmosphere of Alnwick as it may have been in Medieval times in the town's recently refurbished Market Place, which is also the centre for local events, including Alnwick Fair and the International Music Festival.

Region
Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian's Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.

Great location for alnwick

We managed without the shower on the top floor, although it would have been useful..

A beautiful Georgian house within walking distance of Alnwick centre, and Sue the owner was lovely over the phone and very helpful with where to visit.. Comfortable and spacious but unfortunately not very clean. I had to bleach all of the surfaces before use as they were sticky. I do not like spiders and there were webs everywhere; down the sides of furniture in the lounge, back of draws in the bedrooms, ceilings, everywhere. This made me uncomfortable from the start. We had to vacuum all of the webs in the bedroom before I could sleep in there! Such a shame as I loved the type of property, and Alnwick and the surrounding area was well worth the visit.

The cottage was warm and comfortable but as we were all over 70 we found the stairs to the attic room steep and difficult to manage .. The shower up there was difficult to get into requiring you to bend over to shower. This would have been OK for a younger couple who could have managed the limited space better. It was difficult to get into the oven as the table was too close to it . We found the house cosy and charming. The location was excellent for walking into the town and other attractions and parking was no problem outside house. The open fire was laid ready and all the coal etc readily available. The reason we are not giving it "exceeding expectations" was that the attic area was not suitable for us at all . We think the description in the ad should be more honest about this. We enjoyed the historical aspects of the house and area.

Had a fantastic week, the weather was brilliant and we got married at the Treehouse,Alnwick Garden.. The house was cosy, the only problem was trying to put the rubbish out, we couldn't find the wheelie bin the night before so had to leavethe bin bag in the back garden, sorry.

Cosy Nook was very well placed to walk to nearby attractions.. Alnwick Castle and Barter Books are a "must" while you are there. Food at Barter Books was good value and very tasty. Cosy Nook had everything you needed and more. We used the lovely open fire as it snowed while we were there! Cosy Nook had plenty of all you needed to make the holiday trouble free.

The on street parking is very limited.. I can only imagine the chaos if we had visited in the summer.

February 2019
On the positive it was clean, comfortable beds, great lounge /open fire, main bathroom shower very powerful.. On the negative, car parking was difficult off peak, wall between attic bedrooms paper thin, cooking was difficult on a cooker that just fitted in a fire place attic bathroom was usable a toilet only if you reversed in...ideal for hobbits.

The house was lovely and had everything we needed.. It’s a quiet yet central location in Alnwick which made an excellent base camp,

We arrived having very high expectations, as we have stayed at other Skye Cotages in the past, and Cosy Noke Cottage met them all.. We had a really pleasant stay in Alnwick although many of the attractions were closed due to the time of year. One improvement I would suggest for the cottage would be WiFi as this would have made it easier to search for attractions that were open. Having said this the cottage was lovely and Northumbria is beautiful.

Good location.. Quirky cottage. Lay out of electrics strange at times. Top shower only for use by short persons. Middle bathroom and shower was good. Well equipped. .We had a good holiday.

A very good location for the castle, which is what we wanted ,so close to every thing in the town, and i must say it was good being so close to a Real Ale Pub, about a hundred yards, great..

This house is a little old fashioned but it lives up to its name of being Cosy and we loved it.. Very relaxing and family friendly. No wifi meant we switched off and talked, read and had a real break from the stress of everyday life. Great location, yes it's on street parking and the roads very narrow with lots of cars jostling for space and it's at the top of a hill but we didn't need the car and it was great to get out and walk. Alnwick has some great places to visit and is a lovely town. Highly recommend a visit to the gardens and to Barter Books in particular.

The property is as described on your website, what it struggled with was the lounge does not have enough seats for the number of occupants in the property, so we brought a chair down from a bedroom.. The low energy lighting in the living room is insufficient to be able to read by, so we brought lights down from the top floor double, Meaning there was only the main light in that room. We knew the property was smaller than others we had stayed in for 7, we accepted that. For 7 adults this place would benefit from just a couple of additions, including some larger saucepans etc. Overall property is in a good location, it was pretty much as described, its central location for Alnwick is good. It is a lovely area to visit.

Thank you for a perfect week, Cosy Nook Cottage is so lovely. We enjoyed every minute of our stay in this beautiful cottage. Warm, cosy, spacious and very well equipped. Great location for so many places too. We really didn't want to come home and will definitely book to stay again. The beds were so comfy and the showers hot and powerful. We enjoyed cosy evening by the lovely open fire and family meals around the kitchen table. We've stayed in plenty of holiday cottages over the years, in many places but this one is my families favourite one. Thank you again.

Family break to Alnwick . Property at the top of a fairly steep hill. On street parking not necessarily at the door but we had 2 cars and always managed to get parked, House has a very homely feel and lives up to its name of being Cosy . Decor in keeping with the property. Kitchen is well equipped and although compact it has the feel of a family kitchen and opens onto the small patio area . Instruction manuals for all appliances kept in folder in kitchen. Rooms on middle floor spacious. I would advise travellers that access to upper rooms not suitable for elderly adults or people with mobility issues. There were board games and Dvds available in the living room. Great visits to the Castle, Gardens, and Bamburgh beach. Found the Black Swan great for food and service.

An amazingly well fitted house, with high quality furniture and (above all) kept in character. The furniture, wallpaper, and everything else were tasteful and appropriate to the period of the house.

Cosy Nook is one of the very few holiday rentals which has been left with its original character in furnishing and arrangements. The furniture is attractive, comfortable and of an appropriate character for the age of the house, and the kitchen is lavishly provided with equipment, even down to high quality champagne flutes and different glasses for red and white wine. The rooms are of very generous size, and the main bedroom is tastefully furnished and decorated in matching styles. The only thing missing in the kitchen is bizarrely that there are no casseroles for the microwave. The house is about ten minutes maximum from the centre of the lovely little town of Alnwick. We will certainly return.

Cosy Nook was a very comfortable and homely property. We felt at home in the house. The location was ideal with an easy five to ten minute walk to the town. Hope it won't be too long before we get back again - we didn't want to go home as we enjoyed our time so much.

The house is quite spacious and quirky but the place lacks care. Good things were the location and the bedding was clean and one of the showers was quite decent, but apart from that: No information to welcome us or tell us where to put rubbish or work facilities. The heating system is EXTREMELY noisy and needs attention. Tried to contact the owner on the phone numbers but she never returned the calls. Badly needs repair and better utensils and the couple at the top of the road where we pulled up to offload have us a mouthful for parking outside their house ( the only space available on a very narrow street) will not be staying again.

Enjoyed the coal fire and comfortable beds. It was so close to the town, walks and tourists attractions that we didn't need to use the car. Alnwick people are very friendly and helpful we will be back next year.

July 2014
We chose Cosy nook for its room size and convenient access to Alnwick. The house was clean and the bedrooms were spacious as well as having 2 bathrooms and 1 downstairs toilet. However the top floor shower room was very cramped. The main problem we had was with the kitchen. It was a house for 7 people but the cooking for that number in the kitchen was difficult and at times unsafe. The handle on the oven was missing (since 2011 according to guest book) and the hob area vanished under a hearth so dark and cramped. The fridge had a door shelf missing and a broken freezer compartment. There was no plug for the sink and the area around was not enough to drain or stack washing up. There were no instructions on arrival. The boiler was off and so it was some time before we could get hot water. The boiler also made awful noises in the night and the radiators came on at 1a.m. There was rubbish from previos residents and none was collected while we were there. We did not find it a relaxing self catering base.

We really enjoyed our stay. The property was in a good location for amenities, within walking distance for the castle, and Barter Books. We are members of the National Trust and found we were within reach of several places to visit. I would recommend Cosy Nook to others, we have had a lovely time.

Cosy Nook was perfectly situated for my son's wedding at Alnwick Gardens with shops etc. The property is aptly named very cosy, quaint and quirky. My 5 year old grandson especially loved the attic bedroom we had and cried when we had to leave!

The house was big enough for our party of four women to have their own room. The location was spot on - places to visit from the house were great. Hulne Park in Alnwick was a great find. Coastal walks were fab!

Lovely house, great value near centre of alnwick. Plenty of space, bedrooms and bathroom all excellent. Only criticism of house would be that some new utensils and pans are needed in the kitchen. Otherwise, a really good place to take my children.

We have stayed at Cosy Nook for the past two years and found the cottage perfectly adequate as a base for exploring the beautiful Northumberland countryside as well as easy access to Scotland. Most things we needed were provided and the beds on the first floor were comfortable which makes all the difference when staying away from home. We would heartily recommend this cottage unless you are over critical or want 5 star accommodation.

We had doubts about returning to Alnwick having had such a good time the first time. Cosy Nook and Northumberland soon laid those concerns to rest. The house is a characterful, warm and quiet property which we thoroughly enjoyed. Alnwick has plenty to do, with a number of indivdual small shops, a welcome change from the 'clone towns'. Northumberland has such variety from moors to beautiful coasts, the people were very friendly, and importantly for us, the food was local and excellent. We shall return!

Cosy Nook is just that. It is also slightly quirky and characterful. The decor and artworks are very good. The Bakehouse Gallery is well worth a visit, as are the Alnwick gardens and Treehouse restaurant. There was nothing that would prevent me booking again.

November 2006
The house was beautifully decorated, I loved the romantic wallpaper and colours in each room and the green fireplace in the living room was beautiful. The owners were there to meet us and they were very friendly and caring. They showed us around the house which is only a five minute walk from downtown Alnwick. The house was warm and cosy, we felt at home right away. We went to the pub down the street and had a great time. We would recommend this house to everyone, we will return to this house, we loved it.
