Good value holiday cottage, clean, comfortable and quite.. Shared walled gravel court yard/car park with cottage attached at back of Coopers Cottage, sat outside a couple of times in the evening (no views other than the walls), but nice to be able to have some outside space. Lots of nice villages within driving distance/walking distance (if you like walking), Thornton Le Dale (1 hour walk away), Hole of Horcum (15 minutes drive), Whitby & Scarborough 30 - 40 mins drive. We had a meal at Indian restaurant in Pickering, 4 Spices (5 minute walks from cottage) and gave the food 10/10. Not all pubs were open when we stayed last week (re Covid19). Nice bath and separate shower in cottage.

Having read the reviews before booking we were a little bit torn, however this cottage was fantastic and absolutely suited us as a family.. The parking was fine for our Skoda Roomster and my children loved the bathroom, which to be fair is huge and very well laid out. If you have younger children it’s probably best to know the stairs are open and that they are steep, however, that said my five year old was absolutely fine after a few trips running up and down! We hope to visit again!

Was very disappointed upon arrival the cottage was filthy every surface covered in dust floors filthy carpet in room and stair carpet look like never been hoovered beds were really uncomfortable all cutlery and plates were filthy mucky teapot looked like it had never been washed kettle pitted with lime scale we ended up eating out all the time which cost us more because of the state of the kitchen we didn’t want to eat there the mother in law had a cottage down the road from us through yourselves and it was lovely clean and tidy the WiFi was very poor at Coopers cottage to

All as expected.. Location very good. Communication very good. Car too big to have parked behind cottage but always found somewhere at front. Would have liked wifi to have been better. Would book again.

My wife, granddaughter and myself were happy with the cottage.. It was very atmospheric and we were thrilled with that. With it being cold weather it would be nice to have a couple of throws to sit and watch tv. However, you can always take fluffy socks and a jumper. The tv upstairs is small for the room and we couldn't get it to work at all. In the bedrooms there was only 1 socket with plug in adaptors. Nowhere to charge phone, laptop and iPads etc. A weak wifi signal. Could do with a shaving socket in the bathroom. Luxury bathroom with quite a high bath, so be aware of that. Combi boiler meant lots of hot water. The beds were comfy and warm. One of the quilts was eiderdown, so be aware if you have allergies just ask for a different one. One of the bedrooms had a privacy curtain wall. That was ok for us. It was fab as our base. It's between a Chinese and an Indian takeaway. You can't notice smells at all. We tried the Indian takeaway which was very tasty. There's a canny little shop nearby. Out of the gate, take a left and walk approximately 100m, cross the road and it's next to the fish shop. All in all, having been to many other apartments and cottages, this was great and suitable for 3 people or 2 couples. It was definitely an experience, walking in the steps of others through the centuries.

The cottage was lovely and clean, and accommodation suited us well.. The courtyard was lovely and safe for the dog, and great to have a safe place for the car. Sharing the space wasn’t an issue. Pickering is a lovely town, very dog friendly and a fab base to explore the Yorkshire Moors and coastline.

March 2019
Coopers Cottage in Pickering was a lovely location for access to many parts of the North Yorkshire Moors.. The cottage itself had everything we needed, was clean and warm. We thoroughly enjoyed the quiet aspect of the cottage even though it was close to a main road. The second bedroom had a heavy curtain as a partition between the stairs and the bedroom instead of a wall, which did not bother my friend and I as it gave us enough privacy. On arrival there was a welcome pack including tea, coffee, milk and biscuits. My friend and I would certainly use Coopers Cottage again.

Had a great week just me and my four-legged friend in this cozy cottage. Full of quirky character with wood burner and all you need for a home from home stay. Very comfy beds! A Perfect base for my visit to Yorkshire. Wonderful walks with pubs on route for that halfway stop for lunch & liquid refreshment.. Although on the high street, the cottage is relatively quiet. Thanks for the Christmas tree.

Fabulous dog friendly cottage, although it was on a fairly busy road, we were not disturbed by traffic noise.. The cottage provided everything we needed and would certainly recommend to others looking for a holiday with plenty of walking opportunities and excess to good local facilities.

Great little cottage in a great little town.. Close to all the pubs, restaurants and shops, surrounded by lovely walks which the dogs certainty enjoyed

The sofa was particularly comfortable, often they are a bit sad.. Also the suggestions for local dog walks were very helpful, in fact all the supplementary advice was useful.

September 2018
The cottage is comfortable and very close to the centre of Pickering.. The outside space is only really suitable to park a small car (Focus size max) as it is shared with the neighbouring cottage, and is not really suited to sitting outside. There is an Indian restaurant one side and a Chinese takeaway the other, once inside the cottage you wouldn’t know they were there. The town is ideally located for touring the Moores and coast. It’s a 10 min walk to Pickering Castle, which is ideal for walking dogs through the woods.

August 2018
Coopers Cottage is a lovely characterful and spacious cottage, with really high ceilings, which was a relief for my rather tall husband! Pickering is a super town, with an amazing castle, beautiful paintings in the church, a great range of shops, places to eat and a steam train station. In addition, it is REALLY dog friendly - absolutely perfect for us!
Mrs Knowles
July 2018
Booking with Sykes was very easy.. Contact with the owner was great he gave us some good tips on walks, pubs, resturants etc. Pickering itself is quite small but very quaint everyone was very friendly and dogs were welcome everywhere! We never had a bad meal - the indian next door is to die for! The only down side was that the courtyard isn't really a welcoming place to relax in which was a shame as the weather was beautiful.
Mrs Baker
June 2018
The cottage was very well presented and we enjoyed using the cottage and the outside area.. It was comfortable and very nicely laid out, To a high standard. It was convenient to walk into Pickering and a good location to visit the whole area. We hope to book it again in the future. Thank you.

June 2018
Court yard not as in photo no seating or tables as in photo .. Thought it could have been a bit cleaner not expecting the 5☆..Saying all that good location good access to bus routes.
Mr Chilcott
May 2018
The photos were misleading as the sitting room furniture had been changed and a tv put up over the fireplace completely changing the room.. The outside sitting area had changed completely with nothing appropriate to sit on which was such a shame as the area was a sun trap and it would have been nice to sit out in the evening. I wouldn't have booked this cottage if I had known there wasn't anywhere to sit outside. Upstairs was nice. Spacious bedrooms, comfy beds and a large bathroom. The main road is very busy in the mornings so very noisy. The indian restaurant and Chinese takeaway were both brilliant and there was no noise or smell from them at all. The location of the cottage was perfect for exploring the area and Pickering is an absolute delight.

This is a great quirky cottage in a perfect location to explore the North Yorkshire moors and coastline.. I had a brilliant time and look forward to returning. Robins Hood Bay is a must for a visit with great walks in the area.

March 2018
Had another great stay at Cooper's Cottage.. Matt, the owner, is really helpful. The photos don't do the cottage justice as the front room has been updated and the bathroom, which isn't pictured, is really lovely. I'd love to visit again with my Mum, but unfortunately the stairs into the bathroom would be too tricky for her. I will be back though! The communication from Sykes and the owners was brilliant - have used Sykes again and again and will continue to do so.
Mrs Beet
February 2018
Everything about our holiday was good.. We copped for the February 2018 snow, but the cottage was lovely and warm, especially the bedrooms. Pickering was a great place to visit with lots of independent shops; a bit different to large city centres with their ubiquitous high street stores.

November 2017
Great little quaint cottage,if this cottage could tell storries of the past i would be first in line to hear them.. Ticked all the boxes for my wife, & me will be back time & time again.Try some of the real ales in town infront of log burners & open fires, and shooting parties from the home counties disgussing days shooting and how sporting the the phesents were.Proper old English yorkshire country town. This is whot we call relaxing,no hussel and bussel. Also must try the home bakerys thers plenty. There is also the steam locomotives fantastic days over the north yorkshire moors with plenty of stop offs. Then dont forget Whitby,Scarbrough ect.

Excellent location for Pickering and surrounding area.. Enclosed area which was ideal for the dogs. Basic cottage but completely met our needs. Stairs would benefit from banister/rails at other side as they are steep and open onto the kitchen.

Stayed here in February 2017. Firstly cottage pictures could do with updating. In lounge now is large flat screen tv above fireplace and one big leather corner sofa. The second set of beds is located on a side landing up the stairs with only a curtain for privacy so it's not an actual room, but description only leads you to believe it sleeps only 2 people anyway. Only access is through the big gates to left of property, front door on street is blocked in from inside. Through those gates you can park and gain access to cottage through kitchen. The location of this cottage is brilliant. Set in a lovely little village it has everything you could possibly need locally, everything. The location is also a brilliant gateway to the Moors, Scarborough, Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay to name a few. The cottage itself could do with some small jobs done. Wood burner needs attention as leaking smoke, nothing a small service wouldn't sort but overall it's a lovely little cozy cottage. Quirky, very quirky indeed. Great central heating so it definatly isn't feeling cold like some cottages. Great large bathroom with over bath shower and a small room off this with a sofa in. I would stay back here, no question. Owner was very helpful and very polite who took time out to explain cottages history, it's a lot older than you think it is!. It is located on a road which is fairly busy but inside cottage you hear hardly anything at all as it's a very quiet village. Great local pubs and although there is a Chinese takeaway on one side, and an Indian the other (Both were fantastic btw!) there is no noise and no cooking smells, even when stood outside. As I said, would happily stay here again.

We have just returned from a weeks stay at Cooper's cottage with our one year old daughter. The cottage was clean, full of charm and character and ideally located in the heart of Pickering. It was equipped with everything we could possibly have needed (inlcuding a high chair and travel cot) and had an extensive range of tour guide leaflets giving us lots of inspiration for local day trips. The owner was very friendly and quick to respond to emails. We would definitely recommend this cottage for a couple or small family wanting a restful break in the heart of Yorkshire.

A very comfy cottage in an excellent location. A great base for visiting local and seaside towns. The enclosed area was spacious and safe for our two dogs.

May 2016
The cottage is quirky but comfortable and not pretentious. It is a great place just to chill and relax with a great host! We love N.Yorks and being in the centre of Pickering gave us the chance to explore the countryside in the day by car and some very nice pubs at night without having to drive! We loved our week here and would definitely return.

December 2015
Coopers Cottage was a perfect fit for rambling around North Yorkshire and the East Riding. The Cottage was very warm and welcoming - the owner was always easily contactable and gave great advice about pubs and real ales. The cottage was well appointed without being over-fussy and you felt easily at home - no ostentatious ornamentation to fret over, everything felt practical and workable. It gave what a holiday needs - relaxation! I highly recommend this cottage and this lovely location.

September 2015
Lovely cottage a minutes walk from the centre of Pickering. Very clean with a nice refurnished bathroom and excellent shower. Cosy lounge with an adequate kitchen. Good for couples. Stairs to the bathroom a bit awkward if you are not fully mobile. Nice touches such as welcome tea, coffee, milk and biscuits. Noyon Indian restaurant next door very good as was Lees Chineses takeaway the other side but no problem with food smells. Off street parking behind gates, only suitable for smaller cars but we had no problem parking in the street. It's a fairly main road but quietens down at night and did not disturb our sleep. All in all an excellent base for the North York Moors, Castle Howard, and the Whitby coastline.

having recently stayed at coopers cottage with my partner and dog i want to say what a lovely cottage this is. The kitchen had all the amenities you need and the bed was lovely and comfy. There was tea coffee and milk awaiting on our arrival and i have to say that the pictures don't do the cottage justice as it looks like it has all been updated since they were taken. We had a lovely week in Pickering and exploring North Yorkshire and this was the ideal pace to stay. Parking was never a problem despite having a 4x4 and if you have a slightly smaller vehicle then there is parking at the rear of the property. Lovely place thanks Matt.

We stayed in Coopers Cottage over the Christmas week with our 12 week old baby. It is very cosy with so much unexpected space in the kitchen and upstairs! The bathroom is fab with a separate space to get dressed in and there are two double beds, one in a cosy bedroom and the other on a lovely mezzanine floor. This was great as we had so much stuff with us for the baby that we could spread out very effectively. Parking is easy, Pickering High Street is a two minute walk, the cottage is next to a good Indian but it is also detached from it so no smells or noise but the bonus of having good food very close! Overall we could not recommend the cottage enough, very friendly and accommodating owners, great break.

A lovely cottage but found the stairs very dangerous to both adults and kids due to being very steep with no banister! my husband and I decided to let the kids have the double room as the other room had no door and opened onto steep stairs maybe an idea to change beds round and put singles in the main room? The kitchen could do with more equiptment as 4 of us struggled and were always washing up as needed plates etc for next meal location was fab couldn't be faulted parking good as managed to park at front of property as space provided was taken by next door

Well organised and really nicely, simply furnished and although on a main road and near shops it is very quiet, especially at night. Quite steep stairs to bedrooms and bathroom, so if you struggle with stairs this may not be right for you but this is not a criticism merely an observation. I would happily stay here again (especially as they allow dogs!)

What a lovely, cosy cottage. From the minute we arrived to the minute we left we had the most relaxing time. The cottage is beautifully furnished, comfortable and cosy. The kitchen is really well appointed and the log burning stove adds a lovely, country feel. For us the best thing was that our puppy Bailey loved it! The courtyard is totally secure so he was able to have a run around without us worrying. On our arrival we were greeted by a lovely box of cakes, jar of coffee, fresh milk and a local paper which, after a long drive, were very very welcome. We enjoyed our stay so much that we are hoping to return later this year!

Arrived after following the excellent direction. Was met at the property and given the tour. Lovely quirky cottage but well decorated and equipped. Good choice of pubs takeaways and shops and friendly good service.

very nice cottage, good central location for exploring the moors and surounding area. there was a small problem with the rubbish bin being full to the brim, and no instruction when to leave out for collection. this small thing aside i would stay again and i have recomended it to anyone who will listen to me.

April 2012
On arrival we were very disappointed at how dirty the cottage was. Every surface was covered in thick dust, including the floor. In the lounge the sofa under the window had broken springs and the other sofa was covered in a grubby, stained cover. There were no towels, tea towels or oven gloves left. The bedlinen was worn and had to be changed. Many of the light bulbs had gone and no replacement bulbs left. After bitterly complaining to the owner a cleaner was sent, but even then the property was only just passable in terms of cleanliness as many areas were still left uncleaned such as the venetian blinds, windows and the cobwebs hanging from the bathroom ceiling.
