I think what we enjoyed most was the atmosphere of the cottage and the stunning views.. Seated in a comfy armchair, I sometimes forgot to read on in my novel and watched the beautiful scenery instead. The cottage is very well-equipped, and the kitchen is a fantastic place to share a meal. All rooms have window seats; there was a competition about them. You can hike from the cottage through beautiful moors between sheep and cattle. But you can also reach a lot of sights within an hour or so: Hadrian's wall, Durham, the North Pennines, Weardale Railway, Beamish. The only downside is that you need a car, but this is clear from the listing.
