This lovely cottage is located in the centre of Whitby 5 minutes walk from the station and the beach.. There is a large supermarket within easy walking distance. The cottage is very clean and comfortable and was great for 3 adults and a dog. A nice touch was that we found tea and coffee and fresh milk when we arrived. We also liked the information that was provided about the history of the cottage and of Whitby. We were confident the owner could be contacted if we had needed. We would definitely stay there again.

A beautiful cottage in the centre of Whitby, excellent location.. The cottage is fitted out to a high standard and very comfortable, lovely and clean. The parking space is a real bonus. I have no hesitation in recommending this cottage. We had a great time.

The Cottage is in a very good location and makes it so easy for all shops, restaurants etc.. Due to its central location and it can be noisy, although we were there at Easter bank holiday weekend. This may have influenced it but noise went on till 4am. The main issue I had with the Cottage, is that it is very small. We went as a family of two adults, two kids and a dog. The house was not big enough to accommodate us all. This was particularly evident downstairs, which is just one room. There wasn’t enough seating space for us all to sit on the settee. There is a breakfast bar in this room but the stools provided, are not very comfortable. There isn’t really enough space to cook, particularly if people are sat at the breakfast bar. When cooking I literally had to sit at one of the seats. The whole accommodation is extremely dark. Whilst accepting that it is a Cottage, the windows do not open in three out of four of the rooms. This makes the Cottage quite stuffy and oppressive. This is not helped by the fact you don’t have control of the heating. This comes on at set times whether you need it to or not. The bedroom on the first floor is a decent size and accommodates two children. It also has storage space and a TV with DVD. There is no DVD player downstairs, nor can you stream your phone to the TV. This meant if we wanted to watch a film as a family, we had to go to the kids bedroom. The bathroom has nice facilities with the exception of the hot tap. It is a Triton hot tap that produces very little hot water. The bedroom on the second floor is contained in the roof. It does not have any room to stand up in, other than the foot of the bed. It’s basically a bed in a room. We both found it quite difficult to get in and out of bed. The Cottage does provide safe secure parking, which is needed in Whitby. However, as described in the advert this is 5 mins away up a steep hill. Overall if there was just two of you, you could make it work. It didn’t work for us as a family. Having stayed in multiple Cottages in Whitby, this was the most disappointing. Due to the issues we left a day early.

The cottage was beautiful, well looked after and in the perfect position to be pretty much in the town centre.. The lovely lady who has this cottage went above and beyond for us as she left a bottle of prosecco and some glasses to say congratulations as me and my husband had just got married and used this cottage as our honeymoon. I would definitely go back if I need to stay somewhere in Whitby. It was a lovely place to just chill.

Mattress was awful that is why poor comfort mark.. We left a day early. Poor hot water supply in kitchen, seemed to only get one bowl full so made washing up difficult. Otherwise this cottage is ace.

Unloading your car and reloading your car is a big issue the road is closed from 9am to 4pm ,so get up realy early to go for your car to park up and load up the traffic warden is around watching .. The cottage is in behind big iron gates (makes you feel safe and private even though it's situated on a main street) this is adorable, and the quaint cottage I define anyone who don't fall in love with it .the location is fantastic couldn't get better centrol and quiet . We all slept well it is so well equipped for your catering needs .smartly decorated and a cosy at home feel .we will be back ,loved it .

Black Gem cottage is lovely.. The location is great with everything almost on the door step. The cottage has everything you could need. The kitchen and bathroom are both very nice and very clean and everywhere has nice decor. Plenty of towels provided and also iron & board and a vacuum. Only one small complaint - I would have preferred there to be 2 door keys rather than just one. I would not hesitate to recommend Black Gem.

Absolutely beautiful cottage, right in the centre of Whitby with everything you'd need and more.. Very comfortable, exceptionally clean and you having your own car park area a 5 min walk away is great. Whitby is very dog friendly with lots of restaurants, bars and shops letting dogs in. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Black Gem cottage or indeed lovely Whitby.

Communication great from the outset.. The cottage is bang in the middle of Whitby and perfect for getting around without a car. The place itself is very well designed and laid out with everything you need and it was spotless. We absolutely loved our holiday and would not think twice about booking again.

March 2017
This cottage is everything as described and more.. We were here in March and it was well heated and very warm and cosy. Everything at hand from tin foil to tea so no need to worry about forgetting anything. Right in the heart of Whitby with a lovely bakery next door and many pubs, shops, eateries and banks on the doorstep. A selection of beaches within a few minutes walk with amazing views and sea life, we saw a seal pup on one occasion and everywhere is dog friendly. The owner was easily contactable and the free wifi is a massive plus in the cottage. Our only worry, which didn't lead to an issue were the stairs from the top floor. They are quite steep and narrow, so we kept the lower floor lighting on overnight so avoided any stumbling to the bathroom in the night and everything worked out great. We would definitely return without question
