Small and comfortable. Enclosed garden good for dogs.Good location even though Skiningrove is a little rundown.(Friendly staff and locals. ) It competes with Staiths/Robinhoods bay/ Runswick bay/Saltburn /Whitby and Marsk by the sea. (All within east drive ) "Had a Good Time this is not a Complaint but is meant to be helpful." But several things listed were not provided. BBQ. Radio/ CD player. A sharp knife /bread knife is needed. I would recommend others to bring the following: Washer no powder/tabs. DVD player no DVDs No salt/Pepper. The grass was long and needed cutting. The picnic bench was in poor order needs painting. KasKane on site restaurant is a must visit . Food very good Family run.

Bishops cottage is a lovely well kept place with everything we needed for a pleasant stay.. Unfortunately Skinningrove was not the place for us. If you are into walking then it would be ideal but when you have mobility problems like my wife it's not. She even had problems getting down to the sea front on her mobility scooter due to uneven roads and steep kerbs.
Mr Milne

Lounge room light from outside is blocked by outside tree leaving the room dark in the daytime and a little bit strange to be in.. other than that the owners were very helpfull and dealt with any problems immediatly a lovely family who deserve to do well in life though all the hard work they put in.

The location and situation of Bishop Cottage is perfect and an excellent, homely, comfortable base from which to tour and explore the north east of England. The owners, along with their family and friends involved in running and maintaining the property are some of the nicest, kindest people we have ever met. Nothing is too much trouble, from arrival to departure and the welcome pack is a lovely treat.

The cottage is in a lovely quiet village in walking distance to the beach which is quiet and ideal for long dog walks. Dogs are welcome in the local pub and the fish and chips are the best. We found lots of beaches we'd never visited before and all the North Yorkshire Moors villages - all within an easy car drive. Cannot fault the cottage, lots of little extra touches that really make a difference.

This was the first time myself and my dog stayed at Bishop`s Cottage, Skinningrove, and I was delighted. The cottage was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. Staff were very helpful and friendly. I love Skinningrove, and I have visited there many times, as I have friends in Loftus. It isn`t the prettiest place, but is unspoilt and it has interesting history. I love the beaches; the people are friendly and I notice that they are trying hard to enhance one or two areas , especially involving local children in `pride of Skinningrove` I definitely will return. Jean Clay.

Because of my disability we particularly like the fact that being on one level made life so much easier than a house with an upstairs. The cottage was exceptionally well presented with everything you need to live somewhere. Also very dog friendly the countryside and nearby resorts were really good. Weather sunny everyday was such a welcome bonus.

December 2010
Bishop cottage is a new build mews type accomodation, built on the site of what was once the pit ponies stables. When we stayed there in December 2010, only half the complex was finished, but the surroundings were well kept and presentable. The cottage is well furnished, very well heated, and compact. There are nice touches in terms of the furnishings. The property though misses perhaps more seating in the living room, a window in the kitchen, and a safe enclosed garden outdoors for pets and children, all fairly minor admittedly. In terms of location a car is quite frankly an essential, the closest pub wasnt the most presentable, and albeit we visited over Christmas the fish and chip shop was closed, as was the ironstone mining museum. We of course booked self catering but were disappointed with the eating options therefore within walking distance, eating in most nights (there are supermarkets in Saltburn, Staithes, Loftus and Whitby) and enjoying the local fish and chips at lunchtime in Whitby generally! Skinningrove is an honest if unpicturesque former mining town, and that was the main source of its income till the sixties, so dont expect a Staithes, or a Robin hoods bay, the town just doesnt play to its locational strengths in those senses, at times walking around it we did wonder if we were by the seaside or in a durham mining town! it does though have easy access to some beautiful walking to both staithes and Saltburn (both a good couple of hours) Should the venture of the cottage complex take off then Skinningroves location is surely its strongpoint, but some kind of not even touristy but basic facilities are crying out to be built (a seafront cafe, a rehash of the towns only pub) In summary a nice cottage, but locationally with limitations if one expects evening entertainment.

No room for breakfast bar in kitchen - it was a table and four chairs in lounge area instead which was much better! Yet another great Sykes' holiday!

A wonderful complex situated on the quiet side of the village. The cottage was clean and well designed. The surronding area is beautifull and the adjacent iron mine is a must visit place. Down side is that there is not a decent pub within walking distance.
