The 161 steps down to the cottage are a bit daunting but the location of the cottage at the bottom of the cliff make the walk well worth it. Reaching it is one of those WOW moments as you are right on the beach with views of the sea from every window. The luggage comes down on a hoist so no need to worry about struggling down with it. The cottage was equipped with everything we needed and was spotless and newly decorated with a seaside theme. Outside was a decked area where you can enjoy meals and drinks right down by the sea you feel so privileged to be there. TIP Take food for at least 3 days as you won't want to leave this idyllic place

from arriving to leaving we can not rate this place enough, It is our new favourite place.. It was a steep walk down but definitely worth every step. Jim met us at the top to help with the luggage ( we didn't pack light but was no problem) luggage went down in a winch as we walked down. every step took our breath away. Beachcomber was stunning very cozy but not to small, all essentials were there making self catering very easy equipped with a fridge and freezer which was great as we took enough food for 3 days so we didn't have to go anywhere. The sea was so calming and so close we just sat, watched and dreamed. Its heaven our dogs had the best holiday ever to. we will be back for sure .. Thank you Jim and Nina

What a lovely place by the beach.. Living in the midlands being able to hear and see the sea for a week was a great escape from it all and we can’t wait to return. The beach is over 3 miles long and it’s dog friendly all year round.

Everything ! ! The ever-changing skies the stunning views ...cafe on the beach with friendly staff and chips to die for ...what more could you ask ....One thing you do need to be fit and agile to negotiate the steep cliff up and down !

A great place to stay very quiet and secluded The steps down and up should not be underestimated as I found them hard work .. .......but the beach the view and the location make it worthwhile We went in November and were very luck with the weather , but I can imagine the long summer days on the beach would be amazing Check it out you won’t be disappointed

The setting was perfect for a chilled out break on the beach.. Lovely rustic accommodation full of little extra's to make your stay comfortable. The journey down (and up) the cliff is tiring with many steep steps but is well worth the effort for a truely awsome beach holiday. The area is quiet and is ideal for walkers and those who like to visit pretty villages and hidden coves.

Beachcombers is the perfect place to regenerate body and soul - from having the time to stop and watch the ever changing scenery to the built in work out of the steps and trail.. Having the cafe next door and the surf school means that having got onto the beach if you don’t want to leave until it’s time to go home, you can stay on what feels like at times your very own private beach resort. Jim and Nina are lovely hosts.

More needs to be said about the cliff path down.. Whilst this did not bother us, it consists of three sections of steep Tarmac road then 200 steps down which again are very steep. Going back up to your car takes approx 20-25mins. Thankfully there is a hoist to deal with your luggage.

My partner & I stayed at Beachcombers Cottage for a week to celebrate my 50th birthday. Through out my childhood we holidayed at Whitsands & I remembered the beautiful clean, deserted beaches & crystal clear waters. What a relief to find that little has changed over the years, the beaches are still clean & empty & the place is every bit as wild & beautiful as I remembered. Beachcombers Cottage is at the very bottom of the cliff & is accessed via a very steep & uneven path, a torch is a must in the dark. Thankfully we were were met at the top by the owner Jim who winched our luggage down for us. The cottage is set right on the beach & was once a large stone cafe, it has since been converted into cottages (the owners accommodation plus 2 rental cottages). On our arrival there was a birthday card, chocolates & flowers for me which was a lovely touch. The cottage is tastefully decorated in a nautical theme & despite being mid November was cozy & warm. The kitchen is well equipped with essentials like tea, coffee, milk etc provided for you. The light & airy bedroom continues the nautical theme & the bed is extremely comfortable, There's a good size bathroom with a large shower, heated towel rail & underfloor heating & the lounge is also a good size with a corner sofa, electric fire & the usual mod cons. There are numerous places near by to eat out, the Halfway House Inn at Millbrook does particularly good food. I would happily recommend Beachcombers Cottage; great location, welcoming hosts, clean & well maintained & good value for money.

Absolutely brilliant position -could not be bettered if you love the sea.. it is a long way down and of course up the cliff so I could not recommend property if there are any difficulties in climbing slopes or stairs but this is warned beforehand. if this is manageable, the best place ever with very helpful owners.

The location of Beachcombers cottage is fantastic.. You could not find a holiday cottage closer to the sea. The cottage itself was really comfortable and the owners were very helpful. Our two dogs are very sad now they are back home.

The holiday was fantastic everything we wanted, perfect for the dogs.. Jim & Nina were very nice & helpful, our only disappointment was the fire didn't work & Jim said he would fix it but never did. Obviously he is a busy man so did not remind him further. But on the whole the place was exceptional.

This is a very unique place to stay and it's quite a privilege to spend time here, you cannot get any closer to the sea. Listening to the changing tides, seagulls and watching the clouds and seascape change by the minute was a fantastic experience. Drop your 21st century stresses and strains as you take the steps down the cliff and go with the flow, by the end of the week you will be sad to leave. Travel light is the best advice, it's an adventure getting there and you'll leave fitter than you arrived but you cannot fail to be charmed by this special place.

The location of Beachcomber's Cottage is obviously amazing. It was not an area I had previously visited and now lament how many times I have driven past this area in order to holiday further down in to Cornwall. The owner was exceptionally helpful similarly amazing It was great to find such an incredible bolt hole and to be able to take my two beloved spaniels made it the best UK based holiday I think I can ever remember. True relaxation in its purest form. I had booked to return within minutes of arriving.

A great little place to have a holiday with your dog We took our two staffis who were able to run off the lead on the dog friendly beach. The owners met us on the top of cliff and took our luggage down on a winch. Great idea. The cottage is comfortable and warm, the owners friendly but inconspicuous. Lying in bed we could hear the waves crashing close below at high tide. A very special place

The location can't be bettered makes the strenuous climb down worth it! We were so lucky with the weather had a really relaxing holiday. The accommodation is cosy welcoming very clean. We really liked having a private seating area outside for al fresco eating etc. Would recommend heartily. A little piece of heaven!

Quite a steep climb up and down the cliff but well worth it once you get to the cottage. Simply a wonderful location so near the sea. All the while i was there i could do nothing but gaze out of the window at the tide coming in and going out. You can always hear the sea even when the tide goes out, you are so close you could almost touch it from the window! Ideal for excercising your dog or yourself along the beach. The kitchen is well equiped to cook dinner every night as long as you take your own food. The owner lives next door and is very helpful and friendly. He will meet you at the top of the cliff and take your luggage down on a winch. There is a co-op 2 miles away in Millbrook to get provisions. Good weather is preferable but even when it rains and is stormy it's nice to watch the sea. Had a brilliant time there.

The car has to be left at the top of the cliff, & the cliff path down requires strenuous effort but boy is it worth it! Right by the best sandy beach in the area with the sea lapping beneath the windows at high tide. The cottage is next to the owners take away cafe & living quarters, but still remains private as the entrance is round the side of the building. There is a picnic table & sitting out area overlooking the beach too, where we took all our meals. The cottage is cosy & very clean, with sea views from all windows. The owner Jim is on hand if needed but not intrusive & Nina's fish pie is very tasty! We were extremely lucky with the weather which makes such a difference to this kind of holiday. I wouldn't recommend this as a base for touring the area, simply because of the cliff climb but others are probably fitter than me & prepared to try. All in all, wonderful place to stay for a relaxing holiday-maybe I should have kept it secret!

Everything about this holiday was perfect, from the position of the cottage to the most beautiful outlook. The dogs was made most welcome by the owners of the property and the on-site lifeguards. The owner was always available if we required anything. This could possibly be the most perfect place on earth.

The location of the property is amazing. Not for those that can't cope with the walk down the steep cliff but for those that can - fantastic. The dogs loved playing on the beach which was not crowded, in fact we hardly saw anyone else on it.

April 2011
Our stay in Beachcomber's cottage was a very positive experience. We had everything we needed to ensure our stay was comfortable. The fantastic location right on the edge of an unspoiled beach was very special. We enjoyed the peace and quiet, with just the sound of the sea outside the window. Access via a steep climb was a challenge, however, this just added to the remoteness and general atmosphere. We still managed to climb the path everyday to visit the many beauty spots in the area without problems. The owner was unobtrusive but very friendly, and was a great help with our bags at the end of our holiday. He gave us excellent advice and directions including emailing photographs of the pathway down to the cottage and loads of information about local facilities and places to visit. Our two dogs were made welcome and had a blast on the beach every day. The area itself is a plethora of watery inlets to explore and the wildlife is abundant. We found several lovely walks nearby, both along the rugged coastline and across unspoiled countryside. Overall we couldn't have asked for more, can't wait to visit again!
