Area
Situated in West Cork, in an area of stunning coastal scenery, Glandore (Gaelic translation - Harbour of the Oaks), is acclaimed as one of the prettiest villages in Ireland, and occupies a superb setting at the head of a spectacular natural wooded harbour. The area has a mild year-round climate, generated by the Gulf Stream ocean current. Glandore has pubs and three restaurants, whilst the nearby fishing village of Union Hall provides further amenities and a large fishing fleet; boats arrive daily with fresh catches of seafood, which can be enjoyed in all the local restaurants. Both Glandore and Union Hall have delightful, sheltered harbours with year-round water activities including sailing, sea angling, whale watching and rowing regattas. Golf can be enjoyed at Skibbereen, Clonakilty and Bantry, while sandy Blue Flag beaches can be found at Inchydoney, Rosscarbery and Tragumna.

Lovely cottage - spectacular views to Galley Head.. There was no Wi-Fi access as the subscription had not been renewed for upcoming summer bookings. There was no T V signal - due to possible storm damage to the receiver dish. However neither the lack of Wi-Fi access nor lack of T V reception detracted from what was a brilliant break as I had access to e-mails through my mobile phone and I had brought a selection of dvds which I was able to play on my laptop. I very much want to return to this cottage in the future.

The house was fantastic.. The rural location was so peaceful and relaxing. The power from the shower was amazing. Best of all, with it being dog friendly, it just made our holiday.

The master bed was painfully uncomfortable as well as the couch in the tv area.. There was a lot of spiders webs in the ceiling windows that suggest they haven't been cleaned in months. Also a microwave / washing machine would be really helpful. I got the impression that the owner has done the bare minimum just to get some cash from the property. Also there is quite a lot of damp spores in bed room and it smells as a result.

Overall pretty good, wifi was a plus, clean and comfortable, enjoyable stay overall, the lack of a freezer compartment in the fridge was a bit of a drawback, couldn't buy frozen food or ice-cream.. A microwave would be a plus but not really necessary. No dishcloths and very limited drainage area over sink for all plates, cups, pots pans etc was a nuisance. The place could do with a small table to the left of the sink. The dreadful state of the road leading up to the cottage was for me a major negative, it's severely potholed and very uneven for the first fifty yards, I drive a Honda Civic and ended up damaging the underside of my car by hitting the road two or three time even driving at walking pace and with careful navigation. By the end of the week I was down to one hit per journey but that's still too much. This is very off-putting for future renting, I would rent the cottage again but only as a last resort based on the state of the road in.

Ballyvoreen is in a quiet farm location in the hills above Rosscarbery with a wonderful view of the distant Atlantic. We arrived on a cold wet evening and the cottage was a warm dry sanctuary to come into. It is a spotlessly clean well equipped place efficiently heated by a storage heater, there were thick towels put out for our use. The water heater and the heated towel rail both worked perfectly. We had a wonderful week staying there and would certainly have no hesitation in recommending it to other people.

We had a wonderful time staying in Ballyvoreen, it was very clean and comfortable and we both loved it.. It is in a very quiet peaceful location with sea views. Absolutely no complaints at all.

This holiday house was as described, apart from the smell of damp that pervaded every corner and made us cut our 7 night holiday down to 3 difficult nights. We knew instantly that we had a problem as the smell hit us immediately we opened the front door but we tried to alleviate it by lighting the stove and airing out the building as much as possible. There was one storage heater in the house and a towel rail, neither of which worked. The only other source of heat apart from the solid fuel stove was a small fan heater which smelled so bad we had to turn it off very quickly. On the second day the main water heater stopped working properly and we admitted defeat and very regrettably cut our holiday short. The weather was so poor we really needed a comfortable house to spend time in and the damp smell made this impossible. Had there been mould we would not have spent even one night but I noticed that the towels that were left for our use were heavy with moisture and thought that we might do ourselves harm if we tried to brave it out for longer. The owner was very courteous when we contacted him about the water heater but he really didn't think there was a problem with damp when I raised it with him. As a consequence we didn't get offered any refund on our family holiday, which was a shame. I didn't request one until the owner had a chance to have someone local check out the cottage but we haven't heard back since we left. I wouldn't recommend this cottage to anyone but particularly not to someone with respiratory sensitivity.

The cottage was warm and lots of hot water and amazing views of the sea.. Fantastic! I wouldn't normally expect a washing machine in a rental cottage however it would have been helpful as we seemed to be in quite a remote location.
