Property Description

Ashgrove Cottage is a 200 year old farmhouse which has been beautifully restored in recent years.

It has large mature lawns to the front and rear of the house and is situated at the end of a private tree lined avenue nearly one km long. The house is surrounded by lush green fields and rolling hills where beef cattle are reared on the farm. Its private setting is only a three minute drive from the M18 motorway that links the cities of Galway and Limerick. The bustling market town of Ennis with its narrow streets and large choice of shops, pubs and restaurants is only a short drive and taxis are on hand if one does not feel like driving.

Shannon International Airport is just 20 minutes . The house is centrally located for taking in the sights and scenery of Clare and the surrounding counties. From the west coast of Clare with its unspoilt beaches and countryside to the north of the county with its unique limestone landscape of the 'Burren National Park' and along the way taking in the famous 'Cliffs of Moher'and the magnificent drive along Galway Bay between the villages of Doolin and Ballyvaughan.

To the east of the county lies the river Shannon and its largest lake, Lough Derg where pleasure craft are a popular pastime. The lake is surrounded by small towns and villages with their inlets and harbours providing amenities for the mooring boats.

The house has three bedrooms with one queen size and two double beds, sleeping six. An extra person can be accommodated on the sofa. One bedroom is ensuite and the main bathroom has bath and shower. It is centrally heated and the open plan kitchen, dining , living area has a solid fuel stove for that added comfort and atmosphere. Wood is provided free of charge by the owners Seamus and Mary who live nearby in Ashgrove House. They are always available for help and advice and frequently share a glass of wine or similar with their guests.
As an added bonus, WiFi (wireless internet) is available in the cottage free of charge for our guests.

I recently travelled to Clare to visit with friends and family, and stayed with my wife and two young children at the cottage. The cottage is central and short driving distance to everything in Clare and a short distance from shopping and dining in the market town of Ennis. Situated amidst spectacular countryside, and close to quiet lakes for fishing, the cottage is also within a ten minute drive of numerous pubs and restaurants. Seamus and Mary were brilliant hosts and tended to every possible need. There was plenty for the kids to do around the farm and an abundance of property for them to run and play. The cottage sleeps 7 comfortably, and if more space is required Seamus and Mary offer larger properties in the quaint towns of Ballyvaughn and New Quay both in prime locations to tour coastal Clare. A truly perfect location for touring the west of Ireland.

Everything was so easy, booking, arriving, hospitality of Seamus and Mary, it all made for an extremely relaxing holiday despite the mixed interests of adults and children. The dogs chased swallows on the lawn, the children played on the go carts, the adults went on runs, walks, everyone had picnics, and that was just around the cottage. We had great fun going to the Falconery and caves at Ballyvaughan, the Burren was just wonderful no matter where we went. It was just a wonderful break and absolutely perfect for a family. Five star, gold star, 10 out of 10.

The cottage was everything we had hoped for and more. We spent almost an entire month there and we were not ready to leave. It's location could not have been better, situated within driving distance of just about anything we wanted to see. Most importantly. Seamus and Mary were exceptional hosts, making us feel like part of the family, always able to provide us with sight seeing suggestions or a good place to grab a bite to eat. We were already planning our trip back to see Ireland and them before we even left.

This rental home is absolutely wonderful. The 200 year old farmhouse has been renovated to the highest standards. It is spacious, clean and very well equipped. The only thing that surpassed the home was the warmth of our kind hosts, Seamus and Mary. The location was perfect. Close to the nice sized town of Ennis with plenty of pubs and nice restaurants, yet secluded on a large farm, giving you peace, quiet and privacy. I highly recommend this property. Be sure to check out Seamus' other two larger homes, as they are equally spectacular.
