I am just home from enjoying a great week staying in Arklehurst and I am missing it already.. The cottage is warm and comfortable and equipped with everything you could need. The walks from the door are fantastic, my dogs were in seventh heaven as was I. I am really missing the peace and quiet, no noise but the bleating of sheep and the sound of rushing water. The only thing I missed was having some outside space to sit in the sun at the end of the day but that is clear from the details so is not a criticism. It's a pity the Red Lion doesn't allow dogs in but the CB Inn just up the road does and they were very friendly and welcoming . The food was good too! All in all I am very happy with my stay and will very likely book Arklehurst again. Thank you for sharing this very special corner of Yorkshire with me.

Parking for the cottage is nightmare if you go out for the day and don't get back before 5-30pm you have nowhere to park.. I parked on the roadside nowhere near any houses agood 5 minute walk from the cottage. When I went the next morning I found a rude note on my windscreen telling me not to park there as it was private property although it was a public highway with no restriction signs at all.

Peaceful and quiet village apart from the distant sound of lambs and sheep and a hooting owl in the evening.. The cottage itself is cosy with traditional furnishing and what you would expect to get in a Dales home. Perfect for dog owners as there are walks from the door and pubs in neighbouring Reeth are dog friendly. Would recommend and hope to return.

I think it should be fare to note that although cottage was dog friendly the pub certainly was not, not the fault of the cottage but it could impact on the holiday experience as the village is remote.. Thankfully the next pub along isn't too far away, although a reasonable walk. A few problems were resolved by the owners very quickly. I found it necessary to use my own frying pan, knives and tin opener, as the ones provided were not up to the job. Overall we had a good stay

This was our third stay at Arklehurst so we knew exactly what to expect. It's perfect for us. We love the cottage, it's warm and cosy with effective heating and lovely coal burning stove for chillier evenings. There are walks straight from the door. It is a beautiful local area with very friendly locals, including in the pub and the hotel/bar within walking distance.

We love Arklehurst. This was our second visit and we will definitely be returning again. The cottage is well equipped with everything a self-catering cottage requires. Arklehurst was warm and cosy on our arrival. The coal burning stove made the living room even more cosy and the coal shed was well stocked with coal and kindling. The stone floor in the kitchen was easy to mop when coming in muddy or wet from our walks. There are beautiful walks in Arkengarthdale right from the door. The beds are very comfortable too with lovely luxurious duvets to snuggle up in. The local pub is lovely; very traditional and welcoming-it's only around the corner from Arklehurst. A short walk away is the CB in which serves lovely food and is also worth a visit. I would highly recommend this property!

Arklehurst was lovely. We love Langthwaite and this was a wonderful place to stay. Everything in the cottage was perfectly suited to our needs. The coal house was well stocked and it was lovely to curl up in front of the fire, although it's May, it's still chilly in the evening! The bed was comfortable and the bedrooms were nice and spacious. We thoroughly enjoyed walks straight from the door too - just what we'd been looking forward to (and the dog enjoyed it too). We'll definitely stay again and would recommend to others.

We liked everything about it and would happily go again. It is spacious, warm, comfortable, characterful and in a glorious location.

April 2015
The quarry tiled kitchen floor was easy to mop clean as it was needed as a reception area for taking off muddy boots, and holding the dogs before showering them, as we do when we are at home. The weather was very cold, the heating was adequate, but the best part being the Morso cast stove, plenty of kindling, and a well stocked coal house. Nights in by a glowing fire being a highlight. The old range, and historic artifacts hung on the ceiling beams further enhanced the authentic feel.

Lovely traditional Dales cottage in the tiny hamlet of Langthwaite. Beautiful and dramatic scenery surround the cottage. The bedding was of a high quality and the beds very comfortable.

The cottage we had asked for allowed dogs but we were told this wasn't available. We were therefore surprised on arriving, with our dog, to see a sign in the window "no dogs allowed." Before we left we vacuumed downstairs thoroughly and even washed the kitchen floor to ensure no dog footmarks were left there. We were surprised to note that we needed to provide our own toilet paper as there was a part-used roll in place only. There were leaflets in the cottage about Cathole Cottages, who we presumed were the owners, although no mention of Sykes cottages.
