Just back from cairns cottage after a week there with 2 friends and the wife , we love the cottage it’s on 4 floors so need to be quite fit for going up and down to certain rooms, there’s a fully equipped kitchen , lovely snug room , shower room and separate bathroom 2 bedrooms with amazing views took our breath away , the top bedroom could do with a bit more storage but apart from that it’s lovely , only down side is the steps to the cottage if you have issues with joints ect it’s not advised but we are all fit and well so wasn’t a problem for us , parkings first come first served so we struggled to start with but manage to park at the top end of the cottage so not too far to carry the luggage down , all in all a beautiful cottage situated in a great spot for access to everything the local pub called the tavern is recommended lovely pub and atmosphere the land lady and staff are very welcoming I’ve added pictures of the steps

Whitby is a lovely place and well worth visiting.. The fish restaurants are plentiful and spoilt for choice. The coastal walk to Robin Hoods Bay was challenging but enjoyable. The accommodation was great but not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. The only thing lacking was somewhere to sit outside with a drunj.

The cottage was lovely, really cozy, comfortable and beautifully clean; it was slightly quirky but that only added to its charm.. We received an information pack by email from Mrs Cairns prior to arrival and that told us everything we needed to know. The views from the upper floor windows were absolutely amazing, it was lovely watching the boats coming and going from the harbour and the steam trains arriving and departing from Whitby station.

Lovely scenic view from top 3 floors overlooking the harbour & Whitby fishing village.. Everything we wanted is within walking distance of cottage. Friendly & cosy pubs & cafes, Sherlocks cafe a must for lovers of cream teas. Just a couple of negatives, built-in DVD player didn't work and the previously reported 2 spot lights in the top floor bathroom hadn't been fixed, sorry to moan but without these 2 little gripes, Cairns Cottage would have been given a 10 but alas 8 out of 10 is still good. Will definitely recommend Cairns Cottage & we hope to revisit again soon.

The location of this beautiful property was just perfect easily accessible to the beauty that is Whitby.. Those steps up the side of the house after a full day walking on the beach are a challenge my legs definitely feel it today now we are home! But doesn't take anything away from the property itself. Its fantastic would recommend to anyone. Lovely welcome bread and milk and biscuits too lovely touch! Thankyou !

Cairns Cottage is a wonderful cottage which is perfect for families that want to be close to the action yet in a quiet secluded spot! We loved how close we were to the centre of Whitby and also the abbey being so close (and not having to go up the 199 steps! ;-) ). We also loved that on a lazy sunny morning we could sit in our king size bed and watch the steam train from the other side of the harbour. Having two teenagers meant that we could nip out in the evening to a local pub (less than 5 mins walks!) and leave the lads back at the cottage safely. Lovely holiday, lovely cottage, lovely location, would definately recommend!

Tucked away but central for town makes Cairns Cottage both peaceful and perfectly positioned, once you find your way down from the cottage avoiding the steps it's great! It has everything you could need for a cosy and enjoyable stay and is spotlessly clean. The views are great as are the chip shops and pubs with lots of them being dog friendly and very welcoming. We had a lovely time at this cottage and it's a credit to the owners, and considering we have had many cottage holidays is praise indeed, thanks again.

Having never been to Whitby before this was a lovely cottage to explore and discover the town from. Lovely and clean with a very welcoming feel to it. Perfectly situated for both the old and new town, never more than a short walk away from all there is to discover, we will definitely be back.

The Cottage was situated centrally within Whitby, it was very very clean and so nice of the owners to leave little tidbits. My parents who are 85 and 86 and I totally loved the Cottage. There was a chip shop and middle earth pub near the bottom of the stairs which were both very nice. The Cottage was so comfortable we all stopped in a couple of nights and watched TV. All in all the owners should be very proud of the Cottage, well done!

We have just returned from a wonderful four days in Whitby. We stayed at Cairns cottage which is by far the best accommodation we have stayed in, in Whitby and we have been quite a few times. The accommodation is dog friendly and was really enjoyed by our sprussel (springer cross jack Russell) Bosun. The accommodation is over four floors and is accessed via some steep steps, so you need to be relatively fit to stay here (the owners make this clear on the website). The cottage has been newly refurbished and is warm and well insulated. It has been stylishly and sympathetically done. The owners seem to have thought of everything, it is very well appointed. We had a lovely (and unexpected!) welcome pack of milk, bread, bacon, crumpets and chocolate croissants, left for us in the kitchen. There are two bedrooms one double (king size bed v comfortable) and another twin (two single beds and a further pull out bed). One bathroom with shower and one shower room. We stayed with friends (another couple and teenage daughter) and they were very impressed with our choice. The kitchen has all the equipment you could need including washing machine and dish washer. Very handy for a longer stay. The guest book was full of praise for the cottage and I was in two minds whether or not to leave this review as it may get so popular it won't be available again! Sykes Cottages made booking very easy also, no problems there..... Whitby is also lovely and very chilled with lots of dog friendly places to eat and drink. We can thoroughly recommend a stay here.

The cottage is excellent in every way, everything is provided for the average family. The décor is very stylish and the layout of every room is first class. It was comfortable and warm. The views over the harbour are fantastic, each level has an even better view. We love Whitby, we have been several times before, but never self-catering, and this was by far the most comfortable stay.
