Is there anything more quintessentially British than staying in a converted pub? We don't think so. Dating back to 1715, this Grade 2 listed ale house in the North Norfolk town of Holt is a delightful escape. The owners have taken great care to restore the original wooden beams, brickwork and fireplaces, while the shabby chic decorations add a touch of whimsy. Surrounded by bustling pubs, cafés and shops, you'll have plenty to do in the area. Spend the day strolling through the village - we recommend browsing the local art galleries or having a spot of afternoon tea at one of the many tearooms (there's a charming one right next door). If you're longing for sand and sun, drive fifteen minutes and you'll reach Sheringham Beach and the Norfolk Coast. After a busy day, there’s nothing better than relaxing in front of the wood burner with some fish and chips from across the road. And of course, pour yourself a pint. You're in a pub after all.
Home truths: *The outdoor courtyard is shared with the tea rooms next door — you'll have sole access from 8pm to 8am, but during the day, a table will be reserved in a sunny spot for you
*The staircase is steep and winding, so it's not ideal for small children or those less mobile
*You can park in a pay & display car park just behind the building, or free roadside parking is a short walk away
