This is a very well presented cottage, spotlessly clean and in an excellent location, especially for walking. There are several options to walk directly from the cottage including over Kinder. The log burner is a real comfort on those cooler evenings. The owner and cleaner were fantastically helpful when we needed them but this was not due to any failing of the cottage - rather an issue of our own making!

This cottage exceeded our expectations as it was very attractive, and had nice inoffensive fresh decor.. Lovely large kitchen to sit in and modern bathroom. The cottage was very clean and appeared recently decorated. We found that the bed was slightly small for 2, but it was a double and the sofas fairly comfortable for two people. Minor downside was some of the light switches and plug sockets and coat hooks weren't in the best places. The log burner was extremely effective at heating the house and we found the central heating unnecessary in October. The house was in a brilliant location in a very pretty village. The people were very friendly. We could walk into the stunning countryside from the house. The Réservoir walk, the Lantern Pike walk and Sett Valley walk were all accessible from the cottage without a need to drive . Also an easy drive to main sites such as the caves in Castleton and Mam Tor. The village had several pubs, a chemist, a village shop and Post Office and we had a great meal in the Packhorse Inn. All in all a great holiday and we'd highly recommend this cottage.

Very nice cottage, well equipped, warm and comfortable.. Well situated for walking trails direct from the door. Car parking a little tricky, not too bad once you get the hang of it.

Great location for getting into Manchester and the village has several decent pubs offering good food

The cottage was lovely and the owner friendly and helpful when I called prior to travelling for key collection details.. The area was excellent for walking with our dogs and we all enjoyed it. One small improvement that we would like (although it wouldn't bother everyone) is that the bed is a double and we have a larger one at home so we are used to having more room. We're both average size, but I guess it's just what you're used to, so for us a king size would have been nice. It wouldn't stop us booking again as otherwise the cottage was excellent.

From the instant I stepped through the door I was completely and irreversibly taken by the design and the atmosphere of this place.. The colours, floors, furniture and even scents make an impression you're visiting your most beloved granny: some old floors have been preserved, and kitchen cupboards are off-white, with a drop of green, pretending they're aged. But actually they're are modern and super-convenient (oh these self-closing drawers). I've noticed the scent: please make a huge reserve of it and never stop using it; it completes the ambience perfectly. The lounge is a different world. Literally every day one of us said: "look how beautiful this room is". I admit the photo of the lounge won my heart, because I too have a log burner under a dark purple wall. The kettle was new, without limescale. All other appliances in perfect condition (very quiet dishwasher and washing machine). Everything looks so good that I was surprised to see visitors' entries from several years ago. It's only the carpet on the stairs that shows any signs of age. There's a wealth of kitchen utensils, including breakfast bags and boxes and even a digital electronic scale. The only two things that we were missing were: - a lid for the large pan - sharp knives; the pretty set of knives was surprisingly blunt and even the provided sharpener helped only a little; but well, our most beloved granny can be forgiven :-)

We had a lovely few days in Hayfield, travelked as family of 4.. Hiked Kinder scout trail and enjoyed the mountain bike trails. The cottage is a perfect starting point for loads of hiking and mountain bike trails and even better to come home to after a rainy day. Parking space directly outside, Direct access to the back garden via side lane was perfect for bikes and storage in the shed was added bonus. The fire in the lounge nice to warm up to. Kitchen and bathroom recently updated, shower was lovely and hot. Bedrooms each have a double bed and refinished floorboards which are a bit creaky, but that adds to the charm. Great communication with the host, he even mentioned the boiler might be noisy when clicking on, but we didn't notice it at all. If you like to cook your own meals, would suggest doing the big shop before arriving, food supplies are limited in the village. But the pubs are a good option for food! Would highly recommend Vicarage lane cottage!

Enjoyed every moment of our week's stay in this lovely cottage in Hayfield.. Very cosy cottage with every item of equipment provided. The location was perfect for us and the dog with numerous walks straight from the property. We hardly used the car. Excellent eating places in the village - all dog friendly. We particularly liked the The George and The Sportsman for food. Very friendly staff and locals. We will certainly return.

Very comfortable home with plenty of equipment and space for us and our two dogs.. Great village to stay in as there’s lots of pubs / restaurants / cafes on the doorstep and lots of walks direct from the house. Loved the wood burner especially as we arrived in the snow. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, I’m sure we’ll be back, thank you.

Just one problem for us was the gate outside.. Our medium sized dog got through the gate and went wandering off. A neighbour informed us she was out. We had to put a chair against the gate which worked but as it was a shared entrance/exit became an inconvenience for neighbours. The cottage was lovely, clean and had everything you would need.

Well equipped and comfortable cottage in a lovely location.. Plenty of walks from the doorstep and a well serviced village with good pubs, cafes and local shop. We keep returning as it's a particularly good spot for holidaying with our 5 year old.

Had a very enjoyable holiday.. Cottage is in an excellent location and very quiet, though only 5 mins from the bus station. Lighting in the lounge is a bit dark in the evening making it difficult to read. We spent the week walking so it was ideal for us.

The best cottage we ever had.. Great to have had a garden. Most walks from the doorstep.Wonderful walks around Heyfield for every taste and ability. Pubs in the village also very nice; the best food at the Packhorse.

July 2018
It was a comfy little house very conveniently placed for walks.. Some of the things in the kitchen didn't quite meet the usual Sykes standard. Some cutlery and crockery was dirty and the oven not cleaned. The cheese grater was very rusty, so not usable. The beds were very comfortable and the cleanliness in the bathroom was very good. It was also a shame that there was no possibility to separate the rubbish as there was only a general waste bin whereas other houses seemed to have different bins for various types of waste.

The cottage was idellic placed at the top of a hill very friendly neighbours.. Lots of walks and several pubs which are all brilliant for both food and drink. I would give the fish and chip shop a miss though. Cottage was cosy with everything you need and high quality would highly recommend staying there.

Excellent home away from home in the beautiful village of Hayfield.. Clean, comfy amd really well equipped. Gorgeous and spacious kitchen, good sized and tastefully decorated bedrooms. Wooden floors almost throughout so no worries about our dogs muddy paws, it was really easy to clean and keep tidy. Key collection was very easy. Only things to comment on if being super picky is that it is located on a pretty steep hill with roadside parking which was a bit tricky. The tv in the living room was a bit small and sound wasn't great. Also our dog managed to escape through the iron gate in the garden (have no idea how!). All in all though an excellent stay and we'd definitely return.

The cottage was perfect, the pictures on your website really don't do it justice! It was spotlessly clean and had everything I needed for a wonderful break. The neighbours were lovely, as was the owner. Hayfield is a gorgeous village and the walking/cycling from the cottage is excellent - the walk to Edale via Jacob's Ladder is probably the most beautiful I've ever been on. Cottage and location are both highly recommended - I wouldn't hesitate to return.

The cottage was fabulous and the owner's had made every effort to make it feel festive by putting up Christmas decorations and leaving a basket of chocolates. As we used to live in Hayfield it was lovely to be visiting the area and family over Christmas. The accommodation was exceptionally clean, well cared for and very comfortable. Thank you!

What a find! This little cottage has everything for a very comfortable stay in the Peaks. Clean, very well equipped and dog friendly. The wood burner made it very cosy although it also has central heating. Lovely kitchen with everything you need down to the dog bowl! Linen provided and free wifi, local maps. Not ideal if you have mobility problems as access is on a very steep hill. The walks are all on your doorstep and the scenery is breathtaking. We were very lucky to have lovely weather for February which just made the walks and scenery even better. The back garden isn't really 'dog proof' for smaller breeds but it wasn't a problem. The village is lovely with dog friendly pubs and local stores that are more than sufficient, although larger supermarkets are only a short drive away. I would recommend walks along the Pennine way, Kinder and if you don't mind a drive, visit hope wood along snakes pass. A car really isn't necessary for a week as there are plenty of walks locally. There is a small cost for logs which are provided for purchase at the cottage, but we took our own for the week. We also took a slow cooker which was a bonus as there isn't one there, but its great coming back to a prepared meal. however, the kitchen is very well equipped, and the washing machine is a much needed bonus after very muddy walks! This is 5 star in every way, can't fault it at all, highly recommended.
