Area
Situated in the southern Lake District and just a few short miles from the coastal estuary and the seaside town of Grange-over-Sands is the small village of Lindale. With a true 'Lakeland feel', due to its narrow streets, traditional dwellings and a quaint old pub, this charming village is positioned on the slopes of Hampsfield Fell. The coastal resorts of Arnside and Grange are worth a visit, whilst the pretty town of Cartmel - with its famous annual horse race meetings - offers plenty to see. Lake Windermere and the villages of Bowness-on-Windermere and Hawkshead are only a short drive away and still retain the charm and character that has endeared them to so many visitors. The fabulous countryside which surrounds Lindale also provides exceptional walking and cycling opportunities.

Region
Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

September 2020
Lovely cottage with a pretty garden to sit out in.. Bigger than appears in the photos & very clean. Would happily stay here again. Few tiny things need attention - microwave turntable doesn’t turn & bathroom door upstairs is getting very sticky. We found the beds rather soft but know that is personal thing. The barbecue was tucked away under covers in the shed so not sure if that’s useable or not. No info on it in the welcome pack. Kitchen equipment was good but sharp knife could do with replacing & some larger saucepans or wok / higher sided frying pan would be handy for one pot meals. There were only 2 of us so kitchen / diner worked well but might be a bit tight for 4 if all moving around at the same time. WiFi was fine but signal for an EE phone was patchy in the house. Vodafone was fine. Excellent location for accessing the Southern Lakes, Arnside & the Cumbrian coast. Had a lovely short walk on Humphrey Head for brilliant views of Morecambe Bay. It is in a village & there is a little road noise & cockerels locally so not for those seeking isolation! Happily recommend this property. We had a brilliant holiday.

Loved the cottage, the key is tricky to get especially if it’s dark, the double bed needs replacing, not very comfortable, but having said that there is everything you could possibly want, spotlessly clean and cosy,we wished it would have been cold enough to light the fire! ! Would stay again

This was our third visit to Beacon High so we knew to expect high standards! We found everything great, just one small comment. All the drinking glasses are really small - maybe the large ones have been broken over the years, so we had to buy a large one for my husband to use as a water glass. Apart from that, the cottage is in a great location for exploring the southern lakes and Grange has a lovely cafe where we enjoyed several lunches and could buy their homemade dinners to take home and heat up. Also a great range of cakes to eat in or take home for later. Great chocolate shop just up the road too!

Really beautiful house in a small quiet village.. It has a pretty front garden that is well looked after with a table and chair that we used for having breakfast outside. The house has been recently renovated and is very comfortable and clean. The only thing that I would suggest to improve the staying would be to provide towels (at least for the hands). Even though it was noted in advance, it is quite inconvenient to bring your own. In general we had a very pleasant time and we would definitely like to come back!

October 2018
We had a lovely stay.. We felt very comfortable straight away. Great to have another bathroom downstairs with the shower for my Mum. Everything was well thought out - the little tags with information were helpful - especially to find the pans/sauce pans under the oven, as the drawer was deceptive! Do a little homework before you get there to locate the house as I didn’t and instead my satnav took us just short of the property. We got there late at night and I had to rely on the GPS receiver on my phone to get us there In the dark. If I had checked properly on a map we would have got there there straight away! Property feels in a secure, beautiful location. With easy access to and from the property to quickly get on major routes to explore the Lakes.

Pretty village location with plenty to do in the immediate area.. We enjoyed a high level of privacy whilst at the cottage, essential to us while on holiday. The Royal Oak in the village serves excellent meals ( booking is essential) and everyone was very welcoming. A regular bus service operates to Grange -Over - Sands and Kendal should you want to take a break from driving/ walking. All in all a very good week, the weather too, apart from one day,was fabulous.

Just that the cot we requested was a travel cot which was kept under the stairs.. It smelled very musty and looked unclean. My daughter who had her 5 month old baby with her felt she couldn't possibly use it because of the smell etc. Fortunately she only planned to stop two nights with us and the baby had to sleep in a single bed with her which was not ideal. Other than that it was a lovely house and we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anybody.

Cottage was lovely - a little hard to find initially - perhaps could do with name of house at bottom of drive..

Lovely holiday cottage, nice quiet location near to village shop & pubs.. Had everything we needed, was very comfortable and clean. Very close to Lake Windermere and lots of other great locations. There is also a bus route that operates through the village. Only problem we had was with opening the key safe. Would recommend.

We found this cottage ideal for our needs .. Quiet, close to other areas we wished to visit.

The decor was of the highest standard and was a very comfortable cottage. Beware arriving when it's dark and wet though! No light left on and had to climb slippery wet steps in the pitch dark. Also difficult to locate 'green' shed in the dark where the key was located. One match left out with which to light a fire. Other than that, it was a delightful place.

Lovely cottage in lindale, bigger than we expected.. Met all our needs over the Christmas break.

September 2016
The cottage better than we expected.. The pictures don't do it justice. Just one small suggestion - would have been nice if a hairdryer was provided. It didn't occur to me that there wouldn't be one as all the cottages I've rented in the past have.
Mr Ayres
August 2016
Lovely cottage, perfectly located for visiting the Lakes and Cartmel Races.. The boys loved their bedroom - it was huge! It was a delight to sit in the traditional kitchen every morning, planning our days out. We would definitely come here again.

The cottage was comfortable, cosy in a good location to see The Lakes. We particularly enjoyed the garden and the open fire. We would recommend and would visit again.

July 2016
A really lovely English country cottage in a nice quiet village which is an ideal location for exploring the Lake District National Park. The accommodation was very clean, with really nice traditional cottage d?cor and a peaceful patio area upon which to sit and relax while enjoying the colourful private garden. This was our first visit to this property, but as regular visitors to the Lakes I am certain this will become our regular retreat in future. Must also mention that we only booked the accommodation the day before arrival and there were no problems in the property being ready.

2 Beacon High was homely and relaxing. The weather was amazing so we made use of the outside area. The location was just right and we could to visit local areas with ease.

June 2016
An excellent cottage which was well furnished and equipped with everything we needed for a perfect holiday. It was in a quiet location in Lindale which is an attractive village with lovely countryside all around. Lots of places to visit nearby and we also had good weather in spite of the forecasts! We would certainly recommend this as an ideal place for a holiday.

February 2016
This lovely cottage is tastefully furnished and decorated - even better than it looks in the photos. It is very well equipped and has good central heating and an open fire if required. There is one shop in the village and the Royal Oak at the top of the village serves very good food. Grange over Sands is only a few minutes away for more shops and Carmel is about 10 minutes away and has several good restaurants. The cottage had good wifi but we could not get any signal for our O2 mobile and this was a common problem in the whole area. There are a few steps between the parking area and the cottage so not suitable for disabled/frail.

October 2015
The house was very comfortable and cosy and we loved it. We felt very at home and everything seemed to have been thought of that you could need. The weather was just starting to get a bit colder and the central heating meant the house was lovely and warm. We catered for ourselves and had all the kitchen equipment we needed. We slept well as the house is in a quiet location. My husband was very pleased with the Smart TV and wifi. We were well situated for trips to Lakes Coniston and Windermere and enjoyed a walk round Tarn Hows. Kendal is certainly worth a visit. We also went to Sizergh Castle and Furness Abbey. We were there for a short break but wished we had booked for longer. It is a lovely cottage to stay in and we will go for longer next time.

A lovely house with a beautiful garden in a peaceful location. In a good location for the South Lakes. The Smart TV was useful. Would recommend a visit to Cartmel which was a very short drive away.
Mr Berrisford
March 2015
The cottage was perfect for our needs; quiet, off the main road, cosy and adequately equipped for two people. We like staying at cottages where the key is in a key safe, as it allows flexibility of arrival time. The Smart TV was a bonus as we had mixed weather so spent more time indoors than we would normally do, especially at this time of year the Lake District is more inclined to be wet. There is a pub in a short walk, serving excellent food. We could go walking from the cottage, but also had places to go which were only a short car ride away or by train.
Mrs Pearson
February 2015
We arrived on a cold wet evening to a warm, welcoming cottage. The kitchen was very well equipped and the information book was helpful. Our 2 Boys particularly liked their bedroom with lovely views and of course the WiFi for their games. The lounge was lovely and we enjoyed using the open fire in the evenings.

Cottage very comfortable and really enjoyed 'chilling out' there. Enjoyed visiting Grange-over-Sands and walking along the promenade. Also enjoyed visiting Cartmel and the Lakeland Motor Museum. It was good to have Wifi available.

November 2014
I loved the views from the kitchen and bedrooms and the quiet and darkness at night - absence of street lights and traffic noise is a treat for a townie like me. The location is good for easy access to lots of places. Overall, a lovely cottage.

October 2014
Warm, welcoming and comfortable well equipped but couldn't find a hairdryer but that was a very small thing. We thoroughly enjoyed our week here the area has some lively walks and is a good starting point for visiting the lakes even by public transport.

October 2014
Charming holiday cottage on 2 levels, well equipped and very comfortable. Located in Lindale which is a small village with two pubs (only one serving food when we visited) and a PO/General Store. However, Grange-Over-Sands is only 5 mins away and offers a number of good shops, cafes and restaurants. A great base for exploring the Lakes as short trips take you to all of the main locations.
Ms Winz-muller

Central heating responded quickly ensuring the house was always warm. Easy to keep clean. Good quality fixtures and fittings. Good TV and reception. Excellent WiFi connection - we faced timed Australia without any problem. Comfortable beds and the quiet location and lack of street lighting allowed some much needed sound sleep!

We loved the setting of the cottage and the privacy afforded to us was great. It was nice to know that if required we could contact the owners/caretakers at any time. The whole experience at this lovely cottage and village was more than we hoped for, and have spread the word about it to family and friends.

October 2013
A very peaceful, homely cottage with light airy rooms. Well located for access to the main tourist attractions of The Lakes, or those quieter spots more off the beaten track. Good pub (Royal Oak) with excellent food at the top of the village. Railway station at Grange is handy for accessing walks at Silverdale and Arnside or beyond.

Peaceful setting, no disturbances, never stayed in a cottage before and really enjoyed the experience, I would love to stay in one again, did not really want to leave! Everything there you could possibly need. The area is really pretty, there is so much to see and do you will never be bored in the Lake District. Must try the world famous sticky toffee pudding from Cartmel well worth a visit. The nearest town Grange-over-Sands has many interesting shops and cafes and walk a long the promenade.

March 2013
Lovely cosy cottage. Beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. We stayed with our 3 year old and 6 month old. The bedroom layout was perfect so we could have the baby in another room but still close enough (and there was space for a travel cot in our room if we'd wanted). Had to call the owners to ask a question and they were so friendly and helpful. Good location for exploring the rest of the lake district. The lindale inn does very good food and the owners were friendly and helpful. We'd definitely stay here again another year.

September 2012
The cottage nicely decorated, especially kitchen and main bathroom and is very clean throughout. We found that it was quite central. Local pub is only a couple of minutes walk as mentioned, as was the village shop (I'm normally sceptical about these types of claims).

First time using Sykes and will certainloy be returning to them for another break. No problems and received regular email updates with driving directions and entrance instructions. The cottage was easily found with either some very simple directions supplied or by Sat Nav. We found this cottage nice and centrally located for our weeks holiday and proved to be a good base for us and what we chose to do. It's only a short drive to the Windermere and Kendal for example. Well worth the drive to Ulverstone via the Kirk Stone Pass to Ullswater Lake and a cruise on there. Even closer is Grange over Sands a nice quaint town, shame there was no beach there though. Cottage has a nice blend of old v new decoration with a very nicely finished kitchen and main bathroom whilst the rest of the cottage had more rustic feel to it. Only grumble about the cottage we had was the bed / matress in the main bedroom. I Personally feel that these could do with being replaced as both my wife and I found this very uncomfortable which stopped us from giving an excellant review for comfort. Worth noting for members of the National Trust that you will get free car parking in a number of car parks which could work out saving a small fortune over the time of a holiday in the Lake District
Miss Binning

The cottage was warm and cosy, nice at this time of year. The open fire was nice at night and added to the comfort, although you had to turn off the central heating as it got too warm. The local Pub, Lindale Arms, provided excellent fare and was only a two minute walk from the cottage.

July 2010
The cottage was accessed by a steep stepped garden path, fortunately our party of three septuagenarians was able to use this. The garden and outside siting area were delightful. The parking space was rather cramped when the occupant of the other cottage was in residence.Information about the location and distance from the nearest large stores was not supplied. The use of upstairs space was imaginative. The beds were superb. The shower room off the kitchen was useful but not convenient. There was a motley collection of crockery which served its purpose but was not in the least elegant. I think the property suffers from having non resident owners who live in Harrogate. The local caretaker was not aware that the tap assembly in the bathroom needed attention until I phoned him.A note explaining damage to a garden seat by the previous tenant had been ignored., I drew his attention to this. Perhaps a log book for written suggestions on maintenance needs would be the answer. Lindale is well placed for visiting the South Lakes and we throughly enjoyed our stay.
Mr Day

The cottage is located in a quiet village but near a main route so getting around was easy. The cottage itself was wonderful - roomy and with all mod cons, yet with a cosiness about it, added to by the log fire which was wonderful on cold evenings. The view from the kitchen across the small valley was lovely. An ideal holiday base for up to four people. I will definitely be booking Beacon High again!
