Communication by the owners prior to my arrival was very good, and picking up the key was easy.. The location of the cottage is excellent, at the heart of the town but on a quiet sidestreet. The kitchen is very well equipped with electric oven, gas rings and microwave, fridge toaster, coffee maker, kettle and dishwasher. I found milk and orange juice waiting for me in the fridge, together with a liberal supply of coffee and tea. In a lovely seasonal touch, I also found two delicious homemade mince pies, which I greatly appreciated. :-)
The property has two bedrooms and I slept in the one overlooking the street, which gave me perfect nights' sleep (as good as at home). The walk-in shower is of very good quality, and the cabinet is a good size. The lounge has a large corner sofa, very comfortable but due to its squishiness and a lack of hard surfaces I found it not easy to rise from! There is also a comfortable upright chair I used most of the time. Because the radiator is under the window, in the winter when I visited it was necessary to heat the room using the very good flame-effect gas heater, but I found this a little fiddly to operate.
If I could offer one piece of advice, it would be to introduce a non-slip material on the stairs (even though it might look a little unsightly). The treads are very narrow and I had to descend each time with great care. Due, I assume, to the narrowness of the staircase there is not a banister rail, and on each descent I had one hand on the wooden supports for the upper floor banister. For this reason I am not sure the property would be suitable for families with young children or for elderly people with mobility issues.
Overall I found this a very pleasant cottage in a delightful town, and I would be happy to recommend it to singles and couples.
