High Nelly Cottage is a lovely little thatched cottage that was a warm and comfortable home from home. We were able to have our dog with us and there was a friendly local pub a minutes walk from the cottage. We had a wonderful stay in a character cottage and would recommend it.

My kids and I spent a lovely week in High Nelly cottage, we only wish it had of been for longer, as none of us wanted to leave, what a lovely place to stay in an idyllic cottage in a lovely setting. Thanks Louise for allowing us to stay there

I have contacted the owner directly about the teething issues that occurred.. I'm assuming that they will be resolved. The cottage is beautiful. The refurbishment and rebuild of the cottage is stunning. Although some facilities should or could be a little more modern. The rustic experience was all part and parcel of the holiday itself. I'm hoping to visit Ireland again and wouldn't hesitate to book this cottage again, if the lady who owns this cottage would be happy to have us. The area is fantastic for reaching most places including Dublin and Wexford.

I really enjoyed our stay in High nelly cottage .. its exactly as it is listed its old, fabulous looking, clean and very quirky We had a lovely time there and enjoyed the beautiful quiet surroundings of clough. There are no shops in clough so you will need to head into the nearest towns Ballacolla or Abbeyleix which we didn't mind doing! the local people are very friendly and very welcoming . If you want a quiet releaxing break and something totally different then high nelly cottage is for you. we were delighted also to be able to bring our dog Milly and the local dog up the road came in every day to say good morning to us and of course Milly made a friend too! all in all a lovely holiday and I would recommend High Nelly Cottage if you want to experience a beautiful historic quirky thatch roof cottage thank you Jane Nolan, Dublin (family 2 adults and 2 children and one dog!)

High Nelly Cottage is beautiful.. Set in a peaceful tranquil place called Clough, County Laios. You feel that you have stepped back in time. Nothing is too much trouble for the owner, who provides the holiday maker with all the essentials. The surrounding area is beautiful too, with plenty of places of interest. The Villagers are friendly, and you feel that you are part of the Community. Not a speck of litter anywhere. A true paradise.

High Nelly Cottage, what can I tell you about it.. .. We wanted a location central to the West and Dublin as we had trips planned with my Mother to visit family in and around Dublin and we also wanted to head out to Athlone to relocate our family home near Tubberclare. High Nelly in Clogh was the perfect spot with an easy drive to the nearest motorway in one direction and the town of AbbeyLeix in the other. Visit Papa Noni in AbbeyLeix for some nice home cooked Italian food in a simple, clean unpretentious restaurant. All in all the cottage and its location were a delightful place to stay for the week. Something visitors should be aware of is that there are two ways to spell the villages name, Clogh and Clough and the road signs can be a combination of either. A bigger issue which gave us a fun talking point is that there is a second village around 20Km away with the exact same name also spelt both ways. There's also a little white cottage on the corner... So be careful if you rely on your SatNav and haven't read the directions provided... Schoolboy error but gave us some funny memories. The cottage itself is deceivingly large, the pictures don't really do it justice. We were very pleased with almost everything with 2 exceptions. Whilst there was everything you could want in the kitchen a simple toaster would have been appreciated. The biggest thing though that all four of us agreed on was that we loved the rustic charm of the cottage but we all also agreed that the shower could do with been a little LESS rustic. If an extractor fan was installed, a proper shower tray and some sort of screen rather than rubber matting and a slightly mouldy shower curtain it would lift the whole ambience of the bathroom. Sadly we didn't get time to visit the pub which is literally at the end of the garden but we did meet the landlord who was very friendly and chatty. The advert does list WiFi in the facilities, it is a Pay As You Go device for which the owner asks for a minimum 20 euro payment by bank transfer if you use it. All in all 9 out of 10 and we would happily stay there again if the bathroom was addressed. Paul & Tracy, Maura & Elaine (Mum &Sister)

Lovely old character cottage which we enjoyed.. Didn't expect luxury and that wasn't what we were looking for, however the bathroom needs attention. We would happily have paid more for the cottage if a basic, hygienic shower cubicle was fitted instead of standing on disgusting rubber matting. A shower cubicle would not detract from the character of the cottage. This should also be made clear to customers before booking! A ripped sofa hidden by a throw also says unloved, not character however this didn't really bother us. Beautifully peacefull place which we would love to come back to but not with that bathroom.
