Our holiday at Hernons Cottage was all we could have wanted.. We were blessed with dry Autumnal weather and due to Covid very few other tourists around. We went with our collie dog who also loved it - lots of walking and exploring round and about. Connemara is wild and rugged - (not for those who want any immediate ready entertainment!!! ) - huge granite boulders, and wonderful stone walls bound with boglands, loughs and mountains and silver sanded coastal areas with more granite and lots of seaweed.... and lots of birds - also exceptionally clean. long may it last! Mary and Marcus were delightful hosts who lived next door - they did not impose but were there for any thing that was needed, and Mary had baked delicious soda bread for when we arrived and the following saturday.

We were allowed to spend a wonderful, great and very fulfilling week vacation as a family with 2 small children in this great house.. There is nothing missing in this great house and the family Hernon`s is not to be surpassed in generosity. All the best greetings from Switzerland and always happy to return. We cannot fault this accommodation it has everything you could possibly need for an enjoyable relaxing break .. Cleanliness exceptional, facilities leave nothing to be desired ,warm comfortable cottage with beautiful views of galway bay and aran mor and so peaceful it's amazing. And if that isn't enough our hosts Mary and Marcus greeted us warmly on arrival and provided a welcome pack of essential,s tea coffee milk butter marmalade biscuits and freshly baked Wheaten which was totally unexpected but greatly appreciated, and on departure we received a CD of music composed by marcus and played by a very talented family of traditional music which we will treasure as a great souvenir. In short a first class experience that we would unreservedly recommend.

We came to Hernons cottage with our 4 young children and all through enjoyed our stay here.. It is situated in a quiet little village but there's a lot to see and do in the surrounding areas with or without children. The beach near by is beyond stunning and the view from the house itself is nothing I've seen before. Mrs Hernon and her family were very welcoming and are more than hospitable, we will definitely be returning in future.

What a fantastic find! From the moment we stepped through the door we were made welcome and felt very relaxed. Mary and Marcus were excellent hosts, who were there if and when you needed them, but not intrusive on our stay. The view from the dining room was superb, you could never tire of looking out at the beautiful island and sea opposite. The lounge was very comfortable with recliner sofa and chairs. Excellent wifi and Television made our stay even more enjoyable, especially on a cold windy day! The double bed was extremely comfortable and again a wonderful view. Kitchen was very well stocked with all the utensils/appliances you could need. A really home from home cottage. If you don't fancy cooking there is a nearby fish and chip shop, which was excellent and a pub that served an exceedingly good Irish breakfast. There is a wonderful beach to stroll along a few minutes drive away. We would highly recommend Hernons Cottage to anyone and hopefully we will get back to stay again....Thank you for the home baked soda bread too Mary!

Hernon's Cottage is a warm and comfortable proper home (not a soul-less holiday let) with lovely owners.. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday there and recommend it highly. The view from the back of the house, across the sea and sky is fantastic. The bed is wonderfully comfortable as are all the rooms. The local area is beautiful, lots of huge sandy beaches, little old harbours and coves. The seafood everywhere is divine - as is Mary's brown soda bread. It will be a holiday we talk about for years to come.

We had a wonderful holiday at Hernons cottage.. The location was great with fantastic views. The cottage was very comfortable, clean and warm. Marcus and Mary were extremely hospitable and were there if we needed them for help or advice. They even took us for a guided tour over to a local island which was fascinating. Marcus and Mary were exceptional hosts, nothing was too much trouble.. For a lover of traditional Irish music it was heaven as Marcus and his two sons are accomplished musicians. We felt that we were part of the family. We experienced something that can't be guaranteed in Connemara 'almost unbroken sunshine for a whole week, only one heavy downpour and that only lasted for 30 minutes'. The view from the back of the cottage was amazing - South Connemara and the Aran Islands

We really enjoyed our stay at Hernon cottage in Carna.. The hosts, Mary and Marcus, were great, welcoming, kind, attentive. Mary baked a delicious Irish bread for us. The cottage was very clean and warm. It had all we could think of. Mary and Marcus left us tea, coffee, milk and butter as well. There is an absolutely stunning view of the ocean!! The village itself is very quiet. There is s nice beach only a few minutes walk. We would definitely recommend to stay at Hernon cottage if you are keen to explore the western coast. Thank you very much to Mary, Marcus and their lovely son for their warm hospitality!!

Having the owners so nearby was lovely.. They were there to help but not in any way intrusive to our privacy. Mary baked us soda bread and brought it round which was a really special touch to our stay. The house was warm and homely. The owners had lit us a fire for when we arrived. We rarely consider coming back to the same property as prefer to experience new places but would make an exception for Hernon's Cottage.

Staying here does literally feel like you are being welcomed into someone's home. The hosts greet you like old friends and the house has everything you could possibly need for a good holiday in the area. It is perfectly placed between Clifden and Galway and the scenery driving to either place is spectacular. The owner bringing round freshly baked and still warm soda bread was an absolutely lovely touch we won't ever forget. We'd love to come back here at some point.
