Self-Catering Reviews

We had a lovely week in this property during the first week of September this year.. The house was perfect for my family of 4 (me, my husband and 2 boys 14 and 11) and my Mum and Dad. The house is very spacious with lots of different areas to sit and relax and find some peace and quiet! We all had our own bathrooms so were not on top of each other at all. The open plan kitchen was our favourite place to relax in the morning and early evening as the views over the farm and countryside were beautiful. The kitchen was well equipped with plenty of storage space. The swimming pool was very clean and my boys took full advantage using it morning and night! The house is located near the main road so access to North Yorkshire is easy. We also took our dog, a one year old border collie. The house was very dog friendly although as his recall is not yet the best we kept him on a lead around the property as he was very interested in the goats! This is a great property in a good location. We would highly recommend.

This was an excellent holiday rental property near Malton.. The house itself was really spacious, with room for children in the party to have a bit of space to themselves. The house has a well-equipped kitchen, with a farmhouse style dining table at one end (there was another dining area next to the conservatory, but we always ate in the kitchen). Having so many en-suite bathrooms was a real bonus - one for each bedroom plus a WC downstairs. The private indoor pool, shared with 3 other properties, was excellent. It'a good size, warm and has a jazuzzi next to the shallow end. We made use of the pool every day. One of the smaller rental properties (one bedroom) can be accessed through a door from the seating area by the kitchen. This could be ideal for a slightly bigger party, if a couple need a bit more space. The photos on the website don't really do the property justice. The owners were helpful, and often available onsite with any queries about the area. We stored our bikes securely on the farm. It's possible to buy free-range eggs. Lovely to have a small herd of goats in the field next to the property, and they'd often come running across to greet us. Malton is only 10 minutes' drive, with supermarkets etc. There's a separate cycle path alongside the main road, with some quiet local roads to cycle on. There's also a walk south through the woods, giving a good view of the vale from the caravan park up on the top.

If the review was on the downstairs property alone I would give 5 stars.. Two of the bedrooms were absolutely fine however the bigger bedroom could probably do with a new mattress. The twin bedroom was okay but could do with a little updating the wardrobe did not shut, and there were no headboards. The outside was great and loved seeing the goats and horses. The pool was really lovely, but if there was anyway that you could£ use it without going outside would have been better. Overall 4 stars

We had a wonderful relaxing week at Hartswood Farm, despite at times pretty wild weather.. The house was very comfortable and well equipped. The large swimming pool was much appreciated by my children.

It was better then what we expected.. Everything that we needed was there and what we didn’t have the owner brought over to us (a second high chair). The house was much bigger then what we thought it would be myself any my friends didn’t get under one another’s feet as there were so many rooms each well equipped cosy and homely. We didn’t even use the television it was so nice to be able to sit infront of the log fire with loads of different board games which were found in the corridor of the swimming pool. The whole house was well equipped for everything that you would need during your stay. It’s grounds are well kept and it’s amazing to sit with a cuppa watching the goats and horses I’m first thing In the morning with the kids. It also has stair gates which was amazing as we had two little ones under 2. Which having a bath in one bedroom aswel as showers were good. The only thing I would say is the pool was a little colder then we would have liked but after talking to the owner he was trying out something with the pool. But it was still enjoyable! Would for sure recommend this place to everyone and looking forward to returning in the summer! Josh

A great relaxing week away with the family.. The conservatory was ideal for sitting in to chat and take in the views of the surrounding countryside. We were all pleased that for a large property it was warm and cosy in October. The pool was an added bonus which we all enjoyed..The owners were very helpful when we needed access to a printer for tickets to a nearby attraction.Would recommend to a friend.

We have just had a fabulous week at Hartswood Farm would recommend this to any one.. The owners Rosie and Trevor where very helpful. The farm house is a lot bigger than looks from the pictures plenty of room to chill out and relax. The kitchen had everything you would find in your own loved the large range cooker ! The bedroom are all of a good size especial the master plenty of room for my daughter her partner two young children and a cot all the rooms are en-suit which was brilliant. Think this must rate as the warmest house I have ever stayed in. The bonus was the pool and the outside space. The pool was brilliant nice changing rooms and great shower really warm which was good as we had two babies and two young children with us. Overall I could not recommend this property enough 100% satisfaction from the minute we arrived to the minute we left. We will be booking this again. Good tip get an Asda delivery makes life much easier as supermarkets are about 15 minutes away in Malton. We took our dog George with us enclosed area where he could just wonder around as well as a large field he could run in definitely dog friendly.

Stayed here a few times but the first time we have stayed in the house, the house is amazing, the bedrooms are huge and have en suite facilities, the view outside is wonderful and the boys loved feeding the goats a slice of bread each morning, the owners are welcoming and nothing is too much if anything is needed..

Lovely cottage in a beautiful setting.. We had the swimming pool to ourselves. The owners were very friendly and welcoming.

We recently stated at Hartswood farm for a family get away. We stayed Saturday-Wednesday and we would have loved to have been staying longer. The location is perfect for trips into Scarborough and also York. The settings around the farm house were beautiful and so peaceful. The amenities in the house were great and there were plenty of places to relax. There are real fires in a few of the rooms and it was a shame that it was too hot when we visited so we couldn't use. The pool was spectacular and was just a few strides around the side of the house. This is a shared pool with the 2 apartments above it. We had it to ourselves the whole time. It is open 10am-8pm so was great to entertain us and baby the whole time. There are en suites in each of the bedrooms which was great and one with a bath. There is a toilet room downstairs also. 2 conservatories offer great views over the farm and we also had the pleasure of a chicken one morning by our patio door (we left the gate open) so this wouldn't happen if you didn't want a visit. Overall a perfect family trip away and I can't wait to return. Thank you to the owners Xx

Hartswood Farm is the most exceptional place.. I can not recommend it enough. A stunning spacious clean Holiday home, it really is stunning. Set on a farm with beautiful views just a short drive from Scarborough/Bridlington/Filey. The indoor swimming pool is magnificent, really warm all year round with a jacuzzi. All bedding & towels crisp and clean, kitchen is very well equipped, everything you could think of. The photos don't do this property justice, it is MASSIVE. We are a family of 6. Two adults & 4 children plus a Springer spaniel - there was more than enough room. The house is constantly warm, heating and hot water on 24/7, you control the temperature with the radiator thermostat. We have just been snowed in for a whole week and was really comfortable. This was our 2nd visit, looking to book our 3rd visit soon. We travel from Scotland to enjoy this wonderful place. A MUST TRY 10/10 Thank you for another fabulous holiday Rosey & Trevor
October 2017
I booked a 3 night stay here last week for me and my dog, some time out. We stayed in one of the apartments above the swimming pool building. It was just right, clean, warm, comfortable with everything needed supplied ( except pool towels, which is fine). The people who own the farm are just lovely and can't do enough to help, it's genuinely dog-friendly ( as opposed to many that state this but mean 'dog-tolerant'), and I had a wonderful few days relaxing, wandering around the grounds and visiting Malton- and swimming in the pool (which was genuinely a heated one) . I fully intend to make this a regular booking, as Malton is also one of the most dog-friendly towns I've come across, so taking my canine mate with me wasn't a problem. I've already recommended this accomodation to friends as a fabulous place to stay. Probably the only things I would point out is that, if you book eiither of the apartments, access to each is via a metal external staircase with 18 fairly steep steps up to it, so you deinitely need to be mobile. Also, although there is free Wifi I couldn;t access this from the apartment ( bit of a relief, really, and I'd got 3G for emergencies) but could from the corridor by the pool. . Other than those points, which didn;t matter much to me, it's a total recommendation. The cottage, I imagine, wouldn;t be a problem with either.
October 2017
The beautiful setting.. The immaculate cottage. Close to many great places and things to do. Lovely couple who couldn't be more helpful.
May 2017
Stayed here in April/May and the weather was lovely adding to the countryside views from most rooms. The Cottage is spacious and very well equipped, with very comfortable beds and all bedrooms are ensuite. The added bonus of the swimming pool was enjoyed by all. The animals especially the goats kept us amused over coffee in 1 of the 2 conservatories. The owners Rosey and Trev were lovely friendly hosts, nothing was too much trouble and available but not intrusive at all times. Thermo and Ella the resident dogs were friendly and welcoming to our dog. We tried the restaurants at the Ham and Cheese and the Dawnay Arms both of which were dog friendly and excellent food.

We booked Hartswood Farm as we wanted somewhere for the family to stay where we could spend time together, but also have some space and privacy. We also wanted somewhere that welcomed dogs. Hartswood Farm was absolutely perfect. It is spacious, with several separate areas for sitting and dining. Also two large TVs and a fabulous, well equipped kitchen. All rooms are en suite and the beds are very comfortable. There are beautiful views and my little granddaughter loved going out to see the animals. We were able to use the caravan field to let the dog run and play with her ball. She was in her element. Rosie and her husband were perfect hosts in that they were happy to offer help and advice but we're not intrusive. Home made cakes were provided on arrival which were very much appreciated. Hartswood is well situated to visit many attractions and leaflets are provided to help you choose. I would recommend that you stock up on supplies as to get to the nearest shop you do have to drive. I can't praise Hartswood enough and would love to return. I have recommended it to many friends who are wanting to book holidays with their families/friends.

The property itself is large with lots of seating areas, two conservatories and two televisions. The bedrooms all had en suite facilities and the kitchen is lovely with a conservatory offering a wonderful view across open countryside. Outside there were chickens and goats but best of all was the large indoor heated swimming pool with excellent changing and showering facilities.
July 2016
We received a warm welcome from Rosie on arrival and were delighted with the spacious accomodation with its choice of two large lounges, lovely kitchen diner, formal dining area and a conservatory with wonderful views over the countryside, goats and chickens. All the bedrooms had ensuites, what a bonus, and the beds were very comfy indeed. The swimming pool was wonderful and a fabulous size. The changing facilities and shower were pristine. All in all we loved this place and had a fabulous holiday as did our dog Penny.

Lovely owners. Lovely location. Lovely accommodation. Bags of space. Quiet. Lovely swimming pool. Excellent facilities. Well equipped. Warm and cosy.
February 2016
This was a great place to stay. I took my little dog who visited most of the places we did. We only left her one afternoon when we went into York for a meal. The swimming pool is great we had it to ourselves most of the time and was clean and warm. The hosts were really nice too and the accommodation was spotless, warm and cosy.

We have just returned from a very enjoyable stay at Hartswood Farm. The farm has loads of space and is ideal for an extended family with 2 lounge areas and 2 snugs so perfect for anyone wanting their own space. The conservatory provides yet more seating area with views of open countryside, pigmy goats, horses and pigs, so ideal for young children. The swimming pool provided entertainment for the children when the weather was bad. Trevor and Rosie were most accommodating and provided us with a plate of home bakes on arrival. The house is really well heated ideal for cold winter nights. We will be back sometime in the future.

Lovely, big cottage, very clean and the pool and hot tub were a bonus! Near to Scarborough and Whitby - would definitely recommend.

December 2015
The farmhouse is very spacious, 3 double bedrooms each with spacious en-suites. The huge pool is amazing with newly installed changing room facilities including shower, wc, sink etc. Lots of areas to sit if not wanting to go in the pool. Beautiful countryside position far reaching views yet close to road for easy access around Yorkshire. The farmhouse was big enough for all 16 of us to be in the conservatory area together which was wonderful. Really nice owners on hand if you needed assistance but only really saw them when they were feeding the animals in the field so not intrusive. We would definitely recommend this accommodation, you would not be disappointed.

The views from the conservatory. The size of the property was massive, easy get lost in it. Bedrooms had on suits with good powerful showers. Thank you.

We stayed here for a week and it was very enjoyable. There was 5 adults and two children. The house was very roomy and the three bedrooms all had ensuite. The only down side to the bedrooms was the family room which didn't have a wardrobe. The downstairs accommodation was very spacious, large kitchen diner, living room with dining area and conservatory. There where two little snug areas. There was also a conservatory off of the kitchen and most evening we sat there just looking over the farm area and open countryside. There was a downstairs toilet as well. The owners Rosey and Trevor were very welcoming and on arrival there was a plate of homemade cakes and milk in the fridge. We used the pool every day which was nice and warm and the children enjoyed it. Also they loved the goats, horses and dogs. There was plenty of games, cds etc to borrow. There are various interesting places in the area to visit i.e. Eden Camp, Flamingo Land, Whitby, Scarborough, North Yorkshire Railway, and of course the Norfolk Yorkshire Moors. We ate at two of the local pubs where the food was good, The Ham and Cheese and the Dawnay Arms.

The swimming pool was great for the kids, also the location was really good for days out about, and all set in a fantastic landscape. The owners of the property were very friendly and on site if we needed anything.

April 2015
A fantastic week in a lovely relaxing spacious cottage, with fantastic views across the fields. The cottage is situated within reasonably short reach of the coast, the moors and access to local towns and the city of York. It was lovely to sit and watch the horses, and farm activities from the sun room. The kids (and the big kids) loved the swimming pool which was a good size and we were lucky enough to have it pretty much to ourselves for the whole holiday. The bedrooms are big and spacious and an en suite in each room was a real bonus. The kitchen was immaculate and the attached sun room made it the hub of the house. The owners were very friendly and struck a nice balance of happy to help while not at all intrusive.
