Absolutely beautiful cottage, with stunning views. Incredible owners, who were so kind and helpful. The property is well equipped for guests and dog! A beautiful dog garden. I would without hesitation book this cottage again when we are next in the area..

The perfect retreat if you want quiet nights and dark skies to see the stars. Very clean, large lounge and three bedrooms. Fantastic wood burner and all the logs you need. I think we only saw one vehicle passing in the whole week, excluding the owners. Shirley was very nice and always helpful and available with any queries about recycling or anything else. The owner was also very chatty if you want to practise your welsh or watch him with the sheep. The views from the property were stunning we were very lucky with the weather. As mentioned earlier if you are interested in sky watching this might be an ideal place to stay. Local pubs are a few miles away including the New Inn At Llangynog and there are a few options in Llanfyllin including the Cain Valley Hotel for food or drink there is also a chip shop which is also recommended.

This was our 4th stay at Halfen Granary and we would like to thank Edith, Jack & Shirley for making us feel so welcome.. The cottage provided us with a very comfortable stay and a good base for sightseeing in the local area. We couldn't have asked for more and will no doubt return again in the future.

My third visit to halfen granary and i`m sure I will visit many more times the cottage is wonderful and has everything you could possibly need the views are breath taking it`s a great place to explore Mid Wales from and the fact you are on a working sheep farm enhances the experience.. The owners Edith Jack & Shirley are wonderful hosts always on hand if you need them friendly and helpful they are great people I can highly recommend Halfen Granery It`s the best place we have ever stayed in the uk.

If you want peace and quiet this is the place for you.. The house is very well equipped everything you could need in the kitchen including a slow cooker. The beds were comfortable and having an upstairs loo as well as a bathroom downstairs was very useful. The views from the garden are spectacular. A really good selection of dvds which were changed between rentals due to covid. Unfortunately due to covid leaflets have been removed, so do some research before you go. Also be aware if coming from welshpool that the road is very narrow and steep.

If you're looking for a quiet and very comfortable place amidst the rolling hills of mid-Wales, do book the Halfen Granary -- you won't be disappointed.. We (two adults and two children) had a lovely stay here, just after lockdown ended and holiday cottages like this reopened. The lodge itself is nicely appointed, with a well-equipped kitchen, comfortable furniture, etc. But the real pleasure is the setting: near enough to villages that getting groceries isn't too annoying, but far from any major roads or towns, situated in beautiful farmland. Each evening, we would sit on the balcony attached to the master bedroom and look out over the hills and pastures; at night, there was no road noise at all, just the bleating of sheep and an occasional cow. The sky was pitch-dark. Our kids also loved running around in the enclosed garden (which adjoins the fields). The hosts were very pleasant and accomodating, and have adapted well to the "new normal" -- e.g., although they had removed all the loose-paper handouts (maps, tourist brochures, etc) that would have been there before, they had laminated a selection of these and cleaned them prior to our arrival. Similarly, though they had removed many of the books and games that would have been in the house before Covid-19, they gave us a complete list of what was available on request (and had a smaller, rotating selection of books, movies, etc stocked for us). During the days, we typically lounged around the house in the morning and did little excursions -- Powis castle, the Llanfair Caereninion railway, etc -- in the afternoon. Overall, we had a fantastic time and would return in an instant.

We had a lovely time at the Granary.. It is set is such wonderful countryside, with some amazing views from the private garden area. The facilities inside were excellent, my daughter loved the whirlpool bath! Very comfortable sitting room with plenty of room for us all, we were a party of 6 with 2 border terriers. The dogs were so welcome to which was really nice. Lots of bowls and towels for them. Would definitely go back for another break without a doubt. Highly recommend for anyone looking to escape for a peaceful break.

My daughter booked this weekend as a Christmas present for us, well, it was absolutely lovely, We were 5 adults, 1 baby and 2 dogs, the house was just what we needed. Cosy, warm and welcoming. There was a log burner in the lounge, and underfloor heating throughout. It was just what we needed in January. The converted barn is situated on a working farm with views to die for. The kitchen was well equipped with all basic items included, and plenty of towels, even towels for the dogs. The owners were absolutely wonderful, thoughtful and kind. The day we left, was the day we were hit by Storm Ciara, the kind Farmer came to tell us that we need not rush to leave and we could stay there for an extra night if we needed, but unfortunately, with work on Monday, we had no choice but chance it, but it made us feel a whole lot better knowing that we had somewhere to stay if need be. He even phoned my daughter to check if we had arrived home safely. A true Welsh Farmer style, which meant a lot. Diolch o galon. We will be back.. for sure..

Halfen Granary is set on a working sheep farm and in a remote part of beautiful countryside.. The peaceful and tranquil setting of this holiday cottage was perfect for a really relaxing break. After a long journey it was great to find milk and biscuits provided along with plenty of supplies of tea and coffee. The cottage was really well equipped with a everything needed for a self catering stay, everything the doggies could need had been thought of. There was loads of local information provided, from things to do to maps of local walks. The owners were lovely and on hand to ensure we had all we needed to enjoy our stay. Would definitely stay again.

The friendliest and most thoughtful welcome with milk, tea, coffee and even biscuits provided.. A very hardworking farmer who was still more than happy to take time to explain the workings of his sheep farm. Genuine animal lovers who really do WELCOME all pets (not always easy to find with 3 dogs including a springer spaniel). A secure, enclosed garden with stunning views to relax in safely with our dogs. A balcony with beautiful views. A superbly equipped kitchen and the cottage finished generally to a very high and standard. The neatest and cleanest farmyard decorated with flowers. On a clear night the stars in the sky are literally beyond compare. Halfen Granary really is a little slice of heaven! From a very relaxed Galvin family :)

July 2016
I echo the previous reviews - the cottage is lovely, well-equipped and clean. The views are stunning and the cottage is ideal for those who enjoy peaceful holidays in the heart of the countryside. There are no streetlamps and one evening we were treated to a quite magical display of stars. We chose the area initially because we had family matters to attend to (I was brought up about ten miles away) and we thought Halfen looked nice from the description and from the photo. We also chose it because it has an enclosed garden for our two Jack Russell dogs. In fact, the garden proved to be a hit as it is big enough to play ball with them and it is very secure. The surrounding fields contain sheep so it was very important to us that the dogs could be allowed off the lead within a secure environment. Although the cottage is part of a farm, the yard outside is very clean and well-maintained. On the day we arrived, we were given a very warm welcome and enjoyed chatting to the owners in passing. My elderly mother stayed with us for a few nights and, although she doesn't walk very well, she managed to climb the stairs with no trouble - the stairs are wide and the handrail is solid wood. The kitchen is very well-equipped and I loved having a decent-sized freezer (we were there for two weeks). The only thing I could have done with was a kitchen scissors to open bags of food etc but I was able to buy one cheaply when we went shopping. On that subject, I would recommend Welshpool as it is the nearest sizeable town to Halfen. It has three supermarkets plus the usual shops and services. Unfortunately, we drove the long way to Welshpool and only found out towards the end of our holiday that there is a much shorter route - we wished we'd have asked the owners about this from the start (so much for my local knowledge!). A word of warning - for the last couple of miles to the cottage (from either direction) the road is very narrow so be prepared to give way to oncoming vehicles. All in all, a lovely break and we would definitely go back.

June 2016
The owners were very welcoming and helpful. The cottage was really good and homely full of various types of equipment including a travel cot. Beautiful scenery and surroundings and very quiet in the middle of nowhere but not too far to go to different attractions just what we wanted. We were lucky with the weather so were able to sit in the garden if we didn't want to go out. We would go again if we wanted a break from it all!

The owners are such lovely warm genuine people. This is a warm cosy cottage on a small working hill farm with stunning views from the master bedroom and lounge. There was easy parking and it was so peaceful - with a hidden secret wooded valley gorge for the main access towards Welshpool. The place is spotless, with so much love and care put into it. There was a log fire with unlimited wood and it was warm with easily controlled underfloor heating. Had good DVD films, and was sufficiently private with your privacy respected. The views from it and the farm are glorious.

The place where the Granary is located is just beautiful. If you want a rural retreat and somewhere where you can totally unwind and relax then this is the place for you. The house itself was second to none, like a home from home and the family who own the property were excellent hosts throughout, nothing was too much trouble. I can highly recommend this property and the location and we will definitely be returning as soon as possible!

Our stay in the Halfen Granary was nothing short of excellent! Everything that we could have wished for was provided, in fact, it far exceeded our expectations! The property was up to a very high standard and very well equipped. It was also very comfortable with a well fitted living room, a fine kitchen, great bathroom and 3 bedrooms upstairs. There was a television and DVD player in the living room and also one in each bedroom. Add to that various books and games and a huge amount of information about the area and you have all the elements for a great holiday in the Welsh mountains. The area is lovely, with lots to do and plenty of walks in the neighbourhood. Highly recommended!

We had a lovely New Year break at Halfen. Standards throughout the cottage were superb. Warm and cosy with under-floor heating, a wood burner in the lounge and a deep Jacuzzi bath and power shower to relax in after walks in the surrounding countryside. The owners and the nearby resident were welcoming and extremely helpful. The views and walks were fantastic; our two terriers loved it. Looking forward to our next stay at Halfen Granary.

September 2013
This excellent, well appointed and supplied accommodation gives onto the most astonishingly gorgeous view of great distance. There may be better things than sitting in the separate garden overlooking this wonder, sipping whatever you will, on a lovely day, but I cannot think of it. The area itself is of great natural beauty in general, and so the nearby roads are rather narrow, but it is not too far to Welshpool for all your big-town needs. A major plus of this accommodation are the friendly owners. To be warmly recommended to anyone who really wants to get away from it all, but does not want to trade in the modern conveniences in part exchange.

August 2013
Just got back from a fantastic week here. The accommodation is best described as traditional, homely and snug. The kitchen is stocked so just bring food and possibly a dishwasher tablet or two. The jacuzzi bath has a radio so you'll sit in it for an hour, beds comfy although the twin beds are best for children. Their is a BBQ area which looks out into the valley which we utilised twice. Jack the owner is extremely friendly and answers all questions. You can watch him round up the sheep. Highly recommended
Mrs Bennett-Thornton
