Excellent cottage, great location for local walks and exploring Hadrian's Wall. The owner Andrew met us on the first day and explained how to use the Aga and open fire. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking and once I got my head round the aga it was a joy to cook on. The cottage is very spacious, the recliner sofa and open fire was the perfect way to relax at the end of the day. Locally there are plenty of pubs and an adequate sized co-op just a stones throw from the cottage. We have stayed in many self catering cottages over the years and this is undoubtedly one of the best.

A beautiful cottage finished to a high standard, well furnished and equipped.. The bed was extremely comfortable, the lounge cosy and the kitchen/dining area spacious. Set in a beautiful unspoilt area of Northumberland, Grove Cottage was an excellent base for exploring Hexham and surrounding area. 2 good dog friendly pubs nearby, and local supermarket and butcher 2 minutes away. Andrew was helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Plenty of room for our 2 labradors who enjoyed local riverside walks. We would definitely book this cottage again.

Well what can I say Grove Cottage is beautiful and everything has been thought of by the owner Andrew.. Allendale village is so quaint and the surrounding area is beautiful with the best walks we have taken. Being able to take the dogs in through the games room is so ideal after muddy walks. The Aga is so fantastic and the open fire a absolute must on the cold evenings. Grove Cottage is by far the best Cottage we have ever stayed in.

The cottage was one of the best we have ever stayed in.. It was very clean and it was a pleasure to come back too. We loved the situation right in the village with pubs, shop and walks nearby. Would highly recommend this cottage. Mr Dochar was easy to get hold of if there was a problem. Look forward to going again.

This is the best cottage we ever stayed in.. It was spotlessly clean and very welcoming. The owner, who welcomed us personally, has renovated the cottage himself to a very high standard. The whole cottage is as impressive as it looks on the pictures. The patio garden was delightfully dressed with flower baskets and pots. A great place to relax and have a barbeque. In the cottage we found information booklets about the area and the owner's own manual with information on the house and local recommendations. This made our stay very relaxed and helped us select the best places to visit in this wonderful part of the world.

This is a first class property.. It is in an ideal location for touring the beautiful surroundings. We lived in the huge kitchen most of the time and enjoyed the patio in terrific weather. Gorgeous plants and hanging baskets. Everything is high quality and it is very comfortable. The owner was very friendly and helpful. A lot of thought has gone into making the cottage comfortable and it is absolutely spotless. Recommend 100%

This cottage was the best we have ever stayed in, as a dog friendly accommodation.. Location was perfect, it had everything we could of needed and was spotlessly clean. The square has everything you need, pubs, co-op, tea room. Walks in the area where fantastic, and if you want to go further a filed, within an hour's drive, you can be in the most beautiful surrounding's. Weather you want seaside or forest. Andrew who owns the property met us on arrival and talked through the lay out of the cottage and was extremely welcoming. Nice welcome basket with useful leaflets of places to go, and details of the local area. I would strongly recommend this property.

A wonderful, clean, cosy and warm retreat.. Despite our late arrival the owner was on hand to greet us and show us around whilst the welcome pack covered the essentials allowing us to settle in straight away. The property was a really relaxing place to spend a week away from it all with local shops, cafes and pubs providing enough entertainment that we didn't need to drive each day. All in all a great retreat that we will be sure to visit again in the future.

The cottage is beautiful, exceptionally clean and comfortable in a perfect location, the pub and shop are no more than 50 metres away.. The owners are close by and available to answer questions and provide useful local knowledge. We had a lovely New Years break especially enjoying the Tar Barl’s procession on New Year’s Eve. We would highly recommend this cottage.

Grove cottage was beautifully decorated, clean and fully equipped for our Christmas stay.. The owners have thought out very carefully the needs of their visitors. We stayed with two large dogs and they settled in straight away. The games room is also equipped for muddy dogs, with buckets, sponges and towels to clean off the dogs in the yard, before bringing them in , plus a large radiator underneath the coat hooks for drying the humans coats. The kitchen was fully equipped and the Aga was the cherry on the cake, it cooked a great Christmas dinner for 6 as my daughter and family who live in Allendale joined us with their children. Wonderful walks, friendly locals, and a selection of pubs to choose from. The beautiful church two steps from the front door ,was full for Christmas morning. Cannot praise this property enough, but possibly shouldn't say too much as we'd like to keep it a secret to ensure spaces for future bookings.Well done Andrew. Oh, the welcome pack was yummy too.

Very attractive cottage, much thought has gone into the planning and decor.. However, people should be aware the cooker is an Aga which may not suit everyone one although there is also a microwave. Andrew and Sarah provided lots of extras that were much appreciated.

Excellent accommodation & location, the cottage has everything that your own home has plus more.. Very well equipped kitchen, beautiful bedding and comfortable beds, bath towels, hand towels and tea towels all supplied along with dog towels (and dog shampoo) if needed. Table tennis and darts great fun even to the 1st time player, washing machine & clothes maiden for those wet walking clothes. Allendale is a lovely little town with every type of business you might need, 3 pubs, a co-op, garage, butchers, gallery, gift shops, cafes and tea rooms, hairdressers, beauty salon and post office. All the pubs serve food but The Allendale pub is especially friendly and serves the best food. The cottage is facing the church and has a beautiful chiming clock and bell ringing(neither of which you hear from inside the cottage). This is the perfect location for a number of lovely walks without having to drive anywhere, very relaxing break, cant praise this holiday enough.

Grove cottage as been decorated to a very high standard.. We couldn't have asked for a nicer place. It's set in a lovely location with friendly locals. There are lovely walks around the village and it's perfect for visiting surrounding places of interest. I would definitely recommend a visit to Grove Cottage.

Grove Cottage is a beautiful place to stay.. Andrew and Sarah have put a lot of thought and effort into this conversion giving, for me, the perfect blend of modern and traditional. The village was wonderful and had everything we needed - Co-op was well stocked, great food at the Golden Lion when we didn't want to cook, and the gift shop was like an Aladdin's cave! Such a lot to see in the surrounding area too - Vindolanda and the Roman army museum were great! Will definitely be going back!

A delightful spacious yet cosy cottage in the heart of Allendale.. An ideal base to explore the surrounding countryside. Lovely walks from the house and further afield. The owners provided a welcome basket and flowers which was much appreciated. They were attentive and on hand should any problems arise. The games room was well used with local pubs also on your door step. We enjoyed learning to cook on the aga using the simple cook book provided. We can thoroughly recommend this cottage.
