Also in the area - with fantastic rock forms and pinnacles - are the Cuillin Mountains, which many climbers consider some of the best in the country. The Aros Centre provides a wide variety of concerts, theatre and cinema throughout the year and is well worth a visit, whilst Portree, the island's only town boasts and excellent range of shops, restaurants and hotels, as well as a picturesque natural harbour.

From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

Excellent boathouse comfy and located in a quiet bay with a wonderful view ideally suited for exploring the Isle of Skye.. For a peaceful get away from it all this is the perfect place to stay.

We really enjoyed our stay, and especially the view out of the window, which varied each day as the weather varied.. We've never stayed so close to the sea! The settees were really comfy, and it was a bonus to be able to use the downstairs part of the boathouse; the machine washer-drier was great, as the cottage is damp and nothing dries indoors. There were people working in the fish farm next door most week days but they were pretty quiet unless unloading boats or moving equipment with their tractor - the fish farm was fallow so they weren't working as much as usual. A couple of little things - would have been good to have some pegs to hang wet things on the line outside, and a metal scrubber for cleaning dishes (although I appreciate the latter is not practical during covid).

The property was visibly mouldy, with damp patches and smelly to the extent that it made me feel chesty, despite not having any pre-existing respiratory problems, so definitely avoid this if you have asthma, or just prefer not to smell like you have been kept in the loft for a year! It was so bad that I left half way through the week and returned home. A complete waste of my time and money, especially as it was a 26 hour round trip by car. When I complained to Sykes Cottages (prior to leaving) they were incredibly unhelpful and told me that I should just leave and go home if I was not satisfied. They refused to send anyone to look at the issues, refused to offer alternative accommodation and refused compensation. Completely useless customer service and I would never, ever book with them again.

A superb retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life; it was wonderful to be off-grid.. Clean, warm, a wonderful bothy but with modern conveniences well placed for beautiful walks. However, it isn’t ‘near’ the fish farm it’s practically in it! Not a problem in the colder months but it could be in the heat of even a Highland one! The 0830 start loading the farm service boats wasn’t a problem....it told you what the time was if you were still recovering from the day before! The beach doesn’t exist and the hotel whilst it looked good wasn’t dog friendly. All that said, we had a fantastic eight days.

The boathouse is a lovely warm and cosy little place, perfect for 2 people.. There is a sofa-bed in the living room so could accommodate 4, and there is certainly seating for more, but the kitchen area is only big enough for one person to work comfortably and there’s only space for two at the dining table, so I think any more than 2 people would be a bit of a squeeze. The bed was very comfy, though I literally had to climb into it, it was so high off the floor, and the bathroom as you would expect, except with towels and toiletries included. The shower was the only down point really - the flow was so slow that I had to take the shower head off the wall in order to get under it, and it took ages to rinse the shampoo out of my hair. Other than the shower, the only thing I’d change would be the window in the living room - make it bigger so you can more fully appreciate the picture postcard view! All in all though, a warm and cosy retreat and one I’d certainly visit again.

Great views out over the loch and very peaceful at night but the boat house .... Great views out over the loch and very peaceful at night but the boat house could be so much better with some TLC inside and really needs tidied up outside and people should be made aware of the condition of the road to get to the boat house from the main road

May 2019
Accommodation is overpriced.. The view is excellent but a bigger window would help when 2 people are sitting there wanting to look out. The carpet was full of dog hairs and needs a good hoovering. Other areas such as lampshades needed dusting. The shower is no good for tall people because of the sloping roof and is of poor quality anyway. The lounge seating is shabby and needs updating and the double bed being against the wall so that you could only get out one side was inconvenient. The accommodation is already advertised without the convenience of wifi or a TV signal so we expected much more with the rest of the amenities in view of the price charged.

OK here goes Mobile reception was great for EE Bedding, pots, pans, fridge and oven were all very clean Plenty of wood and great log burner adding to its cosiness Down side- shower was too small for taller person, bathroom had thick black mold on which I cleaned myself.. The bed, surrounded by 3 walls very claustrophobic, in fact would not have booked had we known this. Dirty walls and light fittings, broken toilet seat and the bathroom light was held together with wire!!! Outside was littered with discarded pipes and ropes, there is an area to sit but no steps down or seats The fish farm was neither smelly or noisey. The view was beautiful and it was so peaceful Such a shame as it could be heaven

December 2018
We stayed over the Christmas period 2018.. What a 'Gem!!' A wonderful peaceful hide-away with views that will take your breath away. We had such a restful, interesting week and the sights to see on Skye are well worth the 12 hours travelling to get there. The wood burner was awesome and with a plentiful amount of wood (although we took two bags of our own) meant we were warn and cozy all week. We tried the Country Hotel about 200 yards away and it was wonderful. Great menu at very reasonable prices, saves cooking any way, relaxing atmosphere. On the down side of the Boat House, the bed and pillows were too soft and the shower was the usual electric shower which was not powerful at all (hence only the smiley faces for comfort and facilities). Everything else was just what we wanted for a bolt hole over the festive period. Well done Boat house!!

The shower temp couldn’t be controlled and the rail for the head was broken.. Someone had tried to reattach with elastic band. The furnishings were all jaded and main light in bathroom didn’t work and extractor was blocked with fluffy stuff. The extractor in kitchen had grease dripping from it. And bulb out in that area. We had snail trails 2 mornings when we got up and eventually caught it. The location views were wonderful but the boathouse was surrounded by local industry making fish food one side and small workshop the other. The smell from the fish food was awful like rotting fish so windows were kept shut, especially when eating. It has so much potential but there is a lot not mentioned about location. Not value for money, too expensive. Had much better rooms in b&bs and hotels on this trip nowhere near this cost. Disappointed.

June 2018
It would be nice if there was some outdoor seating that could be used on the concrete at the back of the boat house .. The remote control did not work for the DVD player. Did report this at beginning of week but nothing was done about it. A bit disappointing.

May 2018
Following previous feedback that the shower-head was broken and there was mould in the shower I asked Sykes to check it had been remedied and the owner/person responsible assured Sykes that it had been.. The shower-head was held in place by an elastic band and the mould was still there. It was very difficult to shower. Bulbs in lights were blown. The facilities were poor, the Boathouse was shabby and tired, the furniture could do with replacement or upgrading. I would struggle to grade it as one star and although it wasn't, I felt it was dirty. Fortunately the weather was great and we didn't have to spend much time in it. Other feedback described it as quirky, I could not be that charitable. Very disappointed with the Boathouse and I would not stay there again.

March 2018
We were disappointed with the level of cleanliness ie large area of black mold in bathroom and mold also in bedroom.. In the hallway wall not cleaned where dogs had shaken. Unable to use the shower properly due to a broken shower head holder ( repair had been attempted). It should have been mentioned in listing that the bed was built into 3 walls which made getting in and out of bed difficult . Had it been said we would not have booked this property as I have a disability/ mobility issue. Bed linen & towels had an overpowering smell of fabric conditioner which permeated the whole cottage. Some of the kitchen utensils were basically past their sell by date & no wine glasses ( wine in a tumbler !!! ) also no oven gloves. As mentioned in a previous review the fish farm is on the doorstep.

February 2018
I think you need to inform guests that the working fish farm is 20 meters away and thus the coming and going of the tractor and boats does not lead to a quiet day (if you are looking for that in terms of day napping).. I would have appreciated a little more in the way of information on local walks and a proper map of Skye even although I had my own. Also for dog owners, there are quite a few restrictions because of lambing and calving so would have been good to know. I had to make several changes to my walks which meant I didn't get to see places. i.e. waternish point and Uillnish point.

Contrary to the description of a rural retreat, whilst remote, the property is adjacent to a slipway and active boat yard belonging to the fish farm, so there are tractors and cars arriving in the mornings seven days a week and fish food crates create a background smell. The cottage does have good views of the Loch and whilst a little tired we very much enjoyed watching the seals and were lucky enough to see an otter in front of the Boathouse. The surrounding landscape is fabulous and we enjoyed our stay. We asked before we went if there was a baking tray as we brought a leg of lamb to cook and there were no trays which would fit in the oven. There were other niggles but we always travel with supplies and nothing was insurmountable. If you are out and about each day, it may be ideal, the stove made it cosy and there was plenty of wood and coal supplied.

The view from the front window at Greshornish Boathouse was just fantastic. It was so calming and soothing gazing across the Loch and witnessing the vast wildlife come and go as they please. The Boathouse was a wonderful place to stay for our first visit to Skye. Very reasonably priced and plenty of walks within a half hour drive. Lovely to take our golden retriever with us to this beautiful place. I would strongly recommend this place to anyone.
