September 2020
This was our 6th stay and we just love it.. The location is amazing: peaceful, fantastic views and loads of great walking straight out of the door. The Farmhouse is old and has so much character, with a big rear garden and a little sun trap out in the small front garden. Perfect for a beer/wine after a good walk. Already booked again for next year.

There was no dishwasher or BBQ , could have more big serving spoons, only one there and bigger serving bowls.. Otherwise all very nice. Lovely to have the garden and it was so quiet. Beds comfy.

In the listings it mentioned it had a barbecue we could not find the barbecue anywhere, other than that we had a fantastic time..

This was our first time to the area and we couldn’t have chosen a better place to stay.. Lesley was brilliant with all communications and went above and beyond to help. The cottage is so picturesque and so traditional it’s was perfect. Everything was spotless. The beds where so comfortable. Everything you need to make your stay perfect was there. The garden for the dogs is great. No need to worry about them getting out they just ran and played. Open fires and stoves for those evenings after walking the peaks. We didn’t really watch tv but it was great for the odd occasions we felt we wanted to watch. Plenty of space with our 2 families. Just a picture perfect farmhouse. We will be back for absolute certain.

Lovely facility, lovely location.. Knives could do with a sharpen and lighting in the main downstairs area was much improved by opening front and back doors - brighter bulbs would help. Great stay in summary though!

Very enjoyable stay, good garden for dogs as it is properly enclosed..

May 2019
The holiday cottage had several faults that we were going to complain about but wasn't sure what the outcome would be.. The toilet stopped working almost instantly and we spent the whole week using an outdoor loo! Not easy when it is the middle of the night and it is pitch black. We didn't call the owner as he was up in Warwick flying birds of prey and it was a bank holiday weekend! We knew in reality that he would not be able to get someone to sort it and we didn't want to cause disruption to our holiday by reporting it later in the week. There were several light bulbs that didn't work including one front room light and my mum's bedroom lamp - she had to take the bulb out of the ceiling light herself and put it in the bedroom lamp. She then spent time worrying that the owner would think she had stolen a bulb and we spent some time shopping in Settle looking for a replacement bulb for the ceiling light. The wiring in the kitchen is bizarre, there are 6 light switches in the kitchen and only when you got them flicked on in the correct sequence did the kitchen lights come on or the extractor fan work. The fridge was dirty when we got there (we take all our food with us to cook when we go away as often the cottages we stay at are very isolating) so we cleaned the fridge before put the food in. The heating came on every morning and was set to 20 degrees which even when we adjusted the thermostat the night before somehow readjusted itself, so the upstairs bedroom became very hot each morning - we were unable to turn the radiators down as they didn't have thermostats. The tap in the kitchen became quite wobbly and looked like it was going to come off at one stage, so then we made sure we didn't touch the tap for the rest of the week. The shower was poor - but then the owner did say in his manual when we arrived that the shower was poor. On a positive it did have a bath so we just had baths. I am genuinely not one to normally complain at all about anything but there were a lot of little things that we felt were poor to say we spent £820 for 1 week at this cottage. The location was lovely, just as advertised but I would not book this cottage again due to all of the little things that just weren't taken care of very well.

Our 5th visit to this lovely old farmhouse and already booked for next year.. Lots of character, big garden and perfect position in a quiet hamlet. It was very clean and the wine, biscuits and milk were much appreciated. The small front garden is a real sun trap and the perfect place to sit with a beer or wine after a long walk.

A charming cosy and homely old farmhouse in a lovely location.. Great walks from the door and an enclosed garden for the dogs. Lots of lovely places to visit. The wi fi and television did not work when we arrived but the lovely housekeeper arrived promptly to sort this out and it all worked well after that. Good signal on wi fi and mobile which I wasn't expecting. Fabulous old pantry with old slate shelves. Great to have a wood burner in the kitchen. We had a great holiday.

September 2018
Great cottage, full of character and quirkiness.. Lovely welcome, lots of space, beautiful views. We would definitely like to visit again. Only comments would be that for 7 adults just one bathroom and toilet was a bit difficult and for non dog people the dog hairs from previous guests was not so great. However, for a weekend base to walk the peaks it was a perfect warm and cosy cottage. Thanks.
Mrs Jones

A great location for walking, straight from the door and a circular walk up Pen-y-Ghent or the three peaks, the facilities in the cottage were great with plenty of books and games.. Would certainly recommend this farm house to friends and family

August 2018
The cottage is lovely and we had a great time in the Yorkshire Dales.. The location is very peaceful but not too far away from villages and tourist destinations (Including Settle, Hawes, Ribblehead Viaduct and Ingleton Waterfalls). It's just a short walk (0.7 miles) down into Horton where you'll find a couple of pubs and a cafe (no shops, though). The cottage is decorated sympathetically with a lot of old wooden furniture which really adds to the character and the beds and sofa were really comfortable. We did have a few minor problems with the cottage: the front is cobbled with large pebbles which creates a really uneven surface and the step up to the front gate is quite high and my parents (who are both a little unsteady on their feet now) struggled with this. It's also worth bearing in mind that this cottage was built over 400 years ago so expect creaky stairs and uneven floors inside. The lane to the village is essentially the start of the ascent up to Pen-Y-Ghent, so if you're driving watch out for hikers - they seem to leave their highway code back on the main road and just walk in the middle of the road.

We had a fab stay at Greengates farm.. Perfect location to just get away from it all, and the garden is ideal for dogs, they loved it! The farmhouse is just lovely and homely, we didn’t want to leave. Will definitely be returning!

This was our 4th stay at Greengates Farm and we have already booked it again for next year.. It’s a lovely old building with character, space and a big garden. After a long walk, sitting out the front with a cold beer or glass of wine is something special and a real sun trap. The only negative is that there is only one bathroom and the shower is ok, but not great. Not a problem for us, as there is usually just the two of us. The position of the farmhouse is also special, in a very small hamlet with great views and loads of walks straight out of the door. We just love this place!
Mr Rummel
May 2018
A lovely quiet location, ideal for those of us walking the Three Peaks and for those of us just there for a peaceful break.. The cottage was very spacious with a great garden, all of the little touches had been thought of and much appreciated. All our requirements met graciously. Would definitely book again.

March 2018
lovely treat, large well equipped Kitchen and walk in larder. open fire in lounge plus wood/coal burner in living room, very cosy and warm. ample parking, and dog friendly. location and views brilliant. only fault would be the time it took the bath to fill not very good when 7 persons staying(soak in the bath after climbing the hill behind rather than a shower)
Mrs Parker
March 2018
Wonderful, only disappointment was time bath took to fill with hot water, impractical for 7 persons to have a bath without sharing - shower ok.. everything else from the cosy lounge to the spacious kitchen/ living area. bedrooms comfortable with wonderful views - bathroom very spacious. kitchen every appliance except a dishwasher (which would have been a bonus, washing up for 7 was not enjoyable after being used to a dishwasher at home)

March 2018
The cottage is in a beautifully secluded setting outside of Horton in Ribblesdale and benefits from stunning views in most directions.. The house was perfect for a short family getaway and the hosts clearly take pride in offering really good holiday accommodation - the heating is excellent (which is handy when it’s freezing) and there’s an endless supply of logs and coal for the fires (with an honesty box policy for repaying for what you use). All in all, I would highly recommend Greengates Farm and would not be surprised if I booked it again in the future.

Great location and accommodation, could do with an extra bathroom but other than that perfect

October 2016
Really comfortable, homely farmhouse.. Lovely quiet location right on the fellside. The walk-in pantry is great with sooooo much space, and the kitchen is really well equipped. The bathroom is huge, and if it were mine I think I would have a separate enclosed shower cubicle rather than the over-the-bath - that said the electric shower was good. It does need a towel rail/horse - about the ONLY criticism we could make. Agree with one other guest comment about the garden - it is fantastic, especially for those like us with dogs - fully enclosed and safe, and bags of room. But as a conscientious pooh picker-upper the long grass means you need to follow the hounds around (even at 6 am still in your PJ's) to avoid missing one that goes unseen! Overall a really comfortable, lovely stay.
Mr Gibson, October 2016
August 2016
Very comfortable cottage with plenty of room for our family of six plus dog.. Lovely setting for a walking holiday - we never needed to use the car. With Penyghent on the doorstep and the Settle Carlisle railway a short walk away, we managed to cover a lot of miles in glorious scenery and lovely weather.

June 2016
Lovely old property with lots of charm. We really enjoyed our stay, beautiful garden to sit out in and enjoy the sun and safe enclosed garden for the dogs to run around in. NB the garden is on an incline with some steep steps (not a complaint just a consideration if you have small children). We brought food with us for the first night as there isn't a shop in the near by village. There are 2 pubs and a café serving food. Mobile phone and WiFi was good and the beds are very comfortable. Apart from the lambs and swallows (again not a complaint) it was oh so peaceful and a very relaxing time was had by all.

Greengates cottage has a lot of charm and a few drawbacks. The positive elements are well described on the sites where you can rent it and a lot of it is true, but unfortunetely not everything. This is our experience. There were 2 very nice bedrooms with double beds. One other bedroom had a double bed, but was rather small, had no view and the bedroom window did not open. The weather was very hot, so one of us had really bad luck. Further there is a small single room. The beds were good, but the duvets way to warm and no alternative. We were four adults; one couple and two singles. In the garden was almost no shade and no umbrella in the shed: very hot. Worse thing for us: 14 days with no internet access at all, all though this is advertised on the website. Apparantly due to the provider, according to the owners. To my standards the owners did not enough to solve this problem (it was not) or to compensate us afterwards. They even gave me quite a hard time about my complaint at Sykes, and eventually reimbursed 30 pounds (we paid 1140 for 2 weeks). Smaller things: from the front garden you look right into the windows of the house opposite. In the back garden a lot of sheds (falconry sheds) block your view to the dales. There is some view, straight into a quarry. And you should not mind the constant bleating of sheep: it goes on and on and on. Comes with the Dales of course, but be prepared:-). The very big plusses for this cottage: good kitchen, nice atmosphere and above all: access for hiking straight from the cottage: turn right and your climbing Pen-y-Ghent! My best experience: a 'handling visit' (very expensive, but worth it!) to the Yorkshire Dales Falconry Center.

Wow! Only the two of us plus the dog in this rambling cottage. Excellent oil fired central heating plus open fire and a log burner really makes this cottage very cosy/ We had a very wet week (again). Not too cold so didn't use the open fires. Very clean cottage. Superb enclosed rear garden for the dog. Would be absolutely superb in the Spring. Only critisicm, the very poor lighting arrangements

Beautiful Farmhouse, clean however several things made week not so relaxing and if only were advertised. Sky TV..crashed every 5 mins, Shower...a jug did a better job..... Cooker sounded like it was going to take off and became unbearable to use, Next to a working farm....Quad bikes early morning up and down past house. Not the farmers fault he has to work but not advised. I spend my working life starting work at 5 am don't want to on holiday. No mobile signal, again not advertised but offer wifi which couldn't be used as no signal to phones. Rightly or wrongly I run my own business and book a cottage on having wifi and had no way of emergency contact. I had to spend an hour each day in town 6 miles away dealing with work issues. Window frames falling out when windows used, so many bulbs not working. A cottage that doesn't have a guest book always says alot.... would not stay again. I know some things petty but added together they made the week quite unrelaxing. However Avril, the landlords caretaker could not have been more helpful and agreed to give her landline to my business for emergencies...she would have had to drive 3 miles if there was one...lovely lady. My problem is don't advertise things without been honest! Mobile phone signal and working farm are great selling points for some but not all.
