What a lovely cottage in a lovely surround.. Hygiene and cleanliness was 100%. Cottage was just want we wanted in a cottage very comfortable and a lovely place to relax in, which we needed after all the walks we did. Lost of different parts of Hadrians Wall to visted. The cottage was one of the best we have stayed in. If you want peace and quiet and able to relax this is a good place to stay in.Thank you Lillian.

The photos on the website of the outside of Goldfinch did not give any hint that it was within an enclosed courtyard.. The view from the front window was entirely of wooden fences! In spite of the fact that it was set on the edge of the stunning natural beauty of the Northumberland National Park, none of it was visible from the cottage. The cottage itself was immaculate in comfort and presentation.

The bathroom light failed, on the Tuesday the owners decided that an electrician was required to replace it even though I had asked if there were any spares around.. The owners without informing me had decided I could manage without a light for the week as it was “bright”, this not taking into to account the bathroom was at the rear with high level small window, causing the room to be low on light. The bed sheet was dirty and I had to request this be changed, looked like an issue in washing process. There is weak phone signal and more often than not the phone signal was not strong enough to be able to use the internet. There no WiFi. There is not washing machine or dryer and no where to dry wet clothes. When you arrive you have power on the hot water heater switch located high level in the hallway just outside the bathroom, took me a Couple of days to find this after texting the owners! I would have thought the water would have been put by the cleaner prior to my arrival! This place is so remote you need to arrive with a full load of shopping, there is no popping to the corner shop.

We rang the owner, as advised, 48 hours prior to our arrival and was given the code for the key safe alongside the door.. This was the only contact we had with the owner, we didn't see anyone during our stay. That said, we didn't need any assistance at all during our stay so that wasn't a problem. The cottage, although isolated, is very easy to find. The cottage is extremely well appointed and the kitchen included a large fridge/freezer which gives it ten out of ten from us. We consider a freezer in a holiday cottage for two to be more sensible than a dish washer (how many utensils can two people use to need a dish washer? it's quicker to just wash up in the sink, a freezer instead is far more useful). The one and only niggle we had was the drainage outside, we had quite a lot of rain and we couldn't avoid walking through quite deep puddles. A lovely cottage, nice area, full marks.

The property was snug, a perfect Valentine retreat for 2, out in the country but near enough to local facilities by car. The butcher in Haydon Bridge is superb! Our hosts welcomed us in a very friendly and helpful manner.
