Amanda and the team at Gill Head farm were very helpful.. I thought the accommodation would be nice however it exceeded our expectations! It was comfy, homely and full of character with big bedrooms and lovely sitting rooms with real fires. The location is also great being close to the A66 and a short drive to both Ullswater and Keswick. The only comments to the contrary are that the WiFi is extremely patchy, the kitchen is small and we were unable to order any takeaways to the site (Amanda noted that usually this isn’t a problem). Would definitely recommend and would stay again!

Don't laugh when I tell you it was the wrong Troutbeck! ! My atlas showed only one Troutbeck in its back index, so I naturally assumed the one near Ambleside was it, in the area near to the 2 attractions my daughters or grandchildren particularly wanted to visit - Beatrix Potter attractions and Grisedale Sculpture trails. In retrospect I'm so glad it WAS the hamlet of Troutbeck, far from the Madding Crowd , as it were, which I only realised a few days before the holiday began, when I read the travel instructions! My fault of course, but there are some of us still using road atlases to locate a suitable holiday spot , not au fait with the gadgets most can use these days!My husband normally saw to fixing up holidays but sadly he died late last year. So, I want you to know we thoroughly enjoyed Gill Head farm with its peacocks, guinea fowl and RED squirrels as very special treats for us all, over and above the usual farm animals. The one problem we found - a window we could not close in the children's bedroom- was seen to immediately by the very pleasant owner as soon as it was reported. Very impressed.

The property at Gill Head Farm is absolutely stunning.. The pictures do not do it justice at all. It really felt like a home away from home and every little detail was thought lf down to a lighter to light the fires. The character of the property is what really made it with the beams and the stunning scenery surrounding it. Such a beautiful place to relax in and not far from Keswick or Penrith and other areas. We can't wait to come again.

A friendly and helpful greeting awaited us on arrival.. We had two friends travelling with us from the U S A and they were most impressed with the age and size of the cottage. It was most comfortable and had the added bonus of two log fires if we so needed! They had never been to the Lake District before and the location of the property, on a working farm, fascinated them. Also it must have been the very best autumn ever to see the Lakes at their best. Everyone felt at home and thoroughly enjoyed their stay. We definitely will book another stay.

Gill Head Farm in general, is absolutely amazing - a beautiful and well-maintained building. The cottage is situated on a farm with views to the open countryside. It was attractive and clean and very spacious for the 7 of us. The beds were comfy and there was plenty of hot water for everyone. There was plenty of room for all of us and we never felt that we were on top of each other. In the day we visited the nearby lake and then hiked around the area, both a 15 minute drive away. The grounds of Gill Head Farm are gorgeous. We cooked for ourselves every day and the cottage was large enough that we could all sit and eat together. The owner was very welcoming and was a great host, we hope to return in the near future.

A fantastic holiday property. Massive for just the two of us that stayed there but would be a great location for families who wanted to explore what the Lake District has to offer. Ideally located between Keswick and Penrith. Will definitely be returning with more people. It was also great to be on a working farm and see all the animals.

What a wonderful week. Everyone at the farm made us welcome and they went out of their way to make our holiday a great one. Fantastic setting, comfy beds, plenty of room and well equipped. A hidden gem of a place that needs no 'tinkering' as it would loose its charm. Central to most tourist attractions and east access to the motorway.

The house was amazing and we are hoping to go back again soon. We had a wide range of ages in our party there and it was perfect. Can't wait to go back. The owners were so helpful. A great place to get away from the stress for everyone and go walking or just play in the river.

We received a lovely welcome and we knew we could always get the owners help if needed despite being a busy farm and campsite. The home was lovely, it had lots of character and rustic yet the facilities that make it a comfortable home. We loved being in the countryside, it was quiet yet not too far from nearby towns, markets and superstores. If you love to walk and be outside you are near some of the loveliest scenery and views in the Lake District. If you like farmyard animals you have them right on your doorstep. We loved being on a working farm and near to places of interest. We found the kitchen to be quite small and it was a bit inconvenient to have to use the paid for laundry facilities for the campsite rather than having facilities in the home. This however would not put us off staying again.

The property was cosy and decorated beautifully with tasteful Christmas decorations. Was really welcoming and would love to go there again. Very highly recommended particularly for wintery nights after long walks.
