This stone-built cottage offers privacy and seclusion for couples or small families looking to spend some time together. All the accommodation is laid out over a single storey and is arranged in an open plan style. The views of Morecambe Bay and the Kentmere Valley are truly remarkable and the patio gives visitors the opportunity to indulge in a spot of alfresco dining during the hazy summer evenings. In the colder months, the property is turned into a warm and cosy snug, being heated by storage radiators and an atmospheric woodburning stove. Note: One well-behaved dog welcome.

All ground floor. Two bedrooms: 1 x double, 1 x single. Bathroom with bath with shower over, basin and WC. Open plan living area with fitted kitchen, dining area and sitting area with woodburner. Utility room. Note: Bedrooms and bathroom accessed via one small step.

Area
Just five miles from the famous town of Windemere, Staveley is truly in the heart of the Lakelands. This charming village is just a stone's throw from the borders of the Lake District National Park and offers wonderful and scenic opportunities for walkers, cyclists and nature enthusiasts. The village itself is well-served by a number of shops, a trio of pubs and a railway station, offering relaxing rides through the surrounding countryside. Nearby attractions include the famous Lake Windemere, where you can soak up the spectacular panorama from a boat or take a ferry trip to the Lakeside Aquarium or the Grizedale Forest Park. Ambleside, the centre of English mountaineering, is also close by offering visitors the chance to go climbing.

Ghyll Bank Bungalow is a quaint little bungalow located in the hills of Staveley. Access to the property is quite tricky, as the road is single track. There are tractors frequently bombing down the lanes; your reversing skills have to be quite savvy if you’re faced with a tractor coming your way! The property was small, but the perfect size for us. The carpet was hoovered and the rooms were lovely and tidy, fresh linen on the beds and clean towels ready for our arrival. The overall smell of the house was, well, pungent. There’s mould on the blinds and on the walls in both bedrooms which definitely needs addressing before it becomes dangerous. In the heat that we’ve experienced this week, the house smelt hazardous when we came back from our walks in the evenings. We tried to air the bungalow as much as possible, we even bought a bottle of ‘Febreze’ to mask the scent. We also found that the water tasted a little odd too, so we resorted to drinking bottled water. The shower screen was broken upon arrival, however when the lovely owners came to say ‘hello’ on our first day, they kindly attempted to fix this for us. It appears as though it had be installed upside down, so unfortunately the fix was only temporary. There was also no bath mat in the bath, which made it very slippy when showering. We would’ve spent a lot more time outside, however the guests in the larger white house on the site were incredibly noisy and messy (photos attached). Their children ran riot from first thing in the morning until the evening. They left all of their toys, clothes and possessions out on the lawn/drive - a less than desirable sight to say the least! We had to pass this every day when leaving/entering the grounds. The combination of reckless neighbours and a slightly smelly house weren’t ideal, but all in all, Ghyll Bank Bungalow is a decent base for a short trip!

We had a fantastic week at the bungalow, every other property here was also fully booked, still managed to remain a quiet tranquil place to stay. The size of the bungalow was just right for us, it was lovely and clean and the lovely owners were very attentive. We dropped on for excellent weather where we were able to sit outside a lot of the time, there is a small outside area where you can eat etc. plenty of areas to park up the car safely. I particularly enjoyed watching the birds of prey soaring around the valley. Spectacular views and plenty to visit around the area.

This was our 3rd visit to Ghyll Bank Bungalow, we love the location it’s so peaceful with just the sounds of the sheep & the wind.. It’s has everything you need, the log burner is a bonus. It’s just nice looking out of the window & admiring the view. If you want a quiet peaceful holiday this is a perfect location.

The property is shown entirely on its own and we booked it because of that as we wanted to be isolated.. In fact there are 2 large properties adjacent and there were children running around and dogs, one of which barked a lot. This wasn't what we'd expected or what we wanted. There should be a different photo. The property is listed as having TV, however this did not work during the whole week. The picture was so pixelated that it was impossible to watch on any channel. We rang the owner who did come and have a look at it and re-tuned it (which I had done already) but the picture was just as bad. We were looking forward to relaxing evenings watching our favourite programmes but this was impossible and spoiled much of the holiday for us. We did tell the owner (by text) that the TV still didn't work but nothing more was done. Additionally we had taken some DVDs but were unable to watch these as, although it worked fine, there was no remote control and so it was impossible to use subtitles which we need as my husband is hearing impaired. On the day we left, we found the remote which had been put (by previous occupants?) in a corner of the main bedroom - we hardly thought to look there! Perhaps the cleaner could ensure that all remotes are in the right place. There were no instructions for TV or DVD which would have been useful. A small point - but there was no bath mat. This would be useful. There was no casserole type dish (apart from a really tiny one) which would also have been useful. The screen for the shower round the side of the bath didn't stay put very well - could that be looked at? There were many good points, however: excellent supply of hot water; comfy beds and good decoration throughout.

The good bits! Absolutely beautiful views, while the photos of Ghyll Bank are as has previously been stated misleading in that it’s very much sandwiched between two other large dwellings, nevertheless when we stayed we were not encroached by this with both properties being empty. With a full complement of guests present on site this would be far from isolated (I’d imagine) everything one would need is present though some attention to detail would help. It’s location offers easy access to a good proportion of beautiful lake land, without the need to travel vast distances & the local village of Staveley is well appointed with eating & shopping facilities. Ghyll Bank is certainly warm & dry & overall provides a lovely base. Not so good are the niggles. Attention to detail would have left us with the means to light the wood burner which, we felt we needed by the evening as the storage heat drops away a little by then & the electric bar fire is broken. The wood store leaks leaving a good proportion of wood soaking wet but there was enough dry to be able to cope. The shower screen is abysmal, it needs to be manually wedged in order to use it, but there is plenty of hot water. A drainer on the sink draining board would be useful too. Be warned clothes storage in the second bedroom is limited!

Lovely quiet little cottage about 2km outside Staveley and a short taxi ride to Bowness.. Easy enough to find as it’s just off the A road from the M6 to Bowness. The cottage is remote enough that you feel you’ve “got away from it all” but no so remote that it’s a bind getting to some sort of “civilisation” (aka, the pub). It is the smaller of the three cottages available, ideal for just a couple or a couple with a child. The facilities are very good, well laid out, very cosy and comfortable and well appointed. Highly recommended.

A fabulous home for our weekend away ! We loved the bungalow which was plenty spacious and very clean on arrival! A great base for our trip to the lakes as able to reach lots of lovely nearby areas. Had a walk out of the back of Ghyll Bank and instantly had phenomenal views and a great hike! Thank you to Mr and Mrs Beaty for our fantastic stay x

We booked for a last minute getaway. Arrived and was very disappointed. We had read reviews, both here & on Sykes web page and decided to give the property the benefit of the doubt. The neighbouring properties, also rental are in much better shape than the bungalow. My guess is they get more booking and subsequently choose to invest in those properties rather than bring this one up to date. It was not a case of needing bring up to date solely. It needed a very good clean. There were dirt marks on many of the walls, a huge cobweb in the lounge, a rusty washing machine with mould in the rim can be found in the entry porch. There is no niceties of a welcome tray. The bedrooms are a little damp. We did not stay, leaving the same evening we arrived & £474 out of pocket. We sent the photographs to Sykes who manage the property who took four days to send to the owner & we are awaiting a refund because the property was not in the condition it was promised to be in. Disappointed.

I raised a complaint the day arrived.. We didn’t stay. The property has not recently received any investment from the owners, nor had it been cleaned. The photographic evidence speaks for itself. have called three times since and each time, I have had to call because the promised call from you has not been received. On this basis I would not recommend the property nor Sykes. I have also left the appropriate feedback via Trip Adviser.

This is a cosy, comfortable bungalow with stunning views.. It was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. It is a perfect location for access to Windermere which is a short drive away. It is situated between two larger properties, both of which were occupied but we did not find that intrusive at all We enjoyed sitting on the bench looking at the view. Two small suggestions - a welcome tray would be nice after a long journey and it would have been nice to have two toilet rolls rather than just one. We loved this place. Thank you.

Ghyll Bank location perfect, fantastic views, the facilities of the bungalow were as described and perfect for the two of us plus one dog for a long weekend, but the whole site is superb.. .. we will be going back and if there are more of us we will stay in one of the other units as they are amazing!!! The owners were lovely to deal with and so helpful .

The images don’t reflect the fact that the cottage is actually in the middle of the car park between two larger properties ( within 50ft) The cottage has been renovated in bits bathroom is lovely but the rest of it has been given a cheap makeover.. Has the feel of a 1960’s pontin chalet! Hot water is technical - is on a small immersion that you need to remember to boost on a regular basis especially if you want a bath or two showers in a row!! Couple who run it try really hard and are lovely they’re just not in touch with modern expectations, I suspect. We own a holiday cottage ourselves so we do understand the challenges- however they either need to upgrade or be more explicit in their marketing in order to manage people’s expectations.

Comfortable, warm cottage on a beautiful, well kept farm but poor communication regarding keys.. Listing does not mention 2 large adjacent cottages which housed large groups of noisy guests. WiFi didn’t work. Facilities acceptable for self catering but no attempt to make it a memorable visit - a few teabags would go a long way. We’ve stayed self catering in the Lakes before and find the price of this cottage too steep for what you get.

Delightful location and a great place from which to explore the valleys and ridges of Kentdale and Longsleddale on foot.. There are some excellent walks on the doorstep. I could imagine for some the location might be considered somewhat isolated but if you want peace and quiet and superb tracks and bridleways then Ghyll Bank is perfect.

A problem with electric sockets was dealt with promptly by Zoe at Sykes Cottages shop Windermere who contacted owners on our behalf ( no mob.. signal on my phone) and dealt with by owners the same day. A few more microwaveable containers would be good but not a huge problem. Comfortable enough for two but think 3 people would find it a bit cramped. Over all nice place to stay lovely views little bit off beaten track

The village of Staveley is very quaint.. Post office sells the best pork pies we’ve ever tasted. Hawkshead brewery which is in the village serves superb real ales. Wilfs cafe renowned for their legendary breakfasts. The bungalow itself is lovely and has everything necessary for your stay , however could do with a couple of easy chairs in living room. The beauty of the local scenery and different walks from The bungalow are breathtaking.

A beautiful setting overlooking the the valley down to the village.. We had the large house and the bungalow and I wonder if the large group (18) of us may have rather over shadowed the people staying in the other cottages. You can walk out direct from the house but beware that there are a lot of sheep about. We had a well behaved young dog with us and we had to keep an eye on her the whole time. No exploring on her own. The village of Staveley, a 20 minute walk away is brilliant. Superb bakery, pub, cafes, brewery. Plus chemists, small shops et al. The owners of the house came by a few times and we usually had a chat and a cup of tea. Cuckoos calling and House Martins nesting under the eaves. As you can probably tell, we had a great time.

The property was not over clean,we had to wipe all surfaces, the property smelt and was very damp we brought some fragrance spray and some glad Jels to try and make the place smell better.. The bedding had hairs in it ,so we used our own.the dvd did not work and the bathroom heater did not stay on.The washing machine was caked up with old powder .which we had to scrub and clean before we could use it.over all the worst property we have ever stayed in.We shall not return.We left the property twice as clean as when we arrived.The owner emailed us to say we had left clothes behind,if he had checked the property before we had arrived he would have known the clothes had been left buy another renter before us,just shows he had not done the cleaning or inspected the condition of the property before we arrived.

The property information is very misleading. The setting is wonderful with fabulous views and access easy to great walks. Thankfully the weather was fantastic so we could be out all day until late evening because the cottage itself was a huge disappointment. Overlooked by two other large holiday lets at full capacity, with eleven cars at one count, all lovely people, but not at all what we had expected. The cottage was dusty, not clean and had an awful smell that we couldn't get rid of. The fixtures and fittings are way past sell by date. Can't understand how it has achieved its rating or pricing level. Awful.

We had a wonderful stay and were very pleased with the Bungalow, in particular the instructions as it was a very dark night when we arrived.. We were pleasantly surprised with not only the layout but the facilities within. The grounds and gardens were beautiful and added to the views it was spectacular. We'll be back!

My partner and I have just come back after spending a long weekend in the bungalow at Ghyll Bank. The piece and quiet we found there was very welcome and inspires us to return for a longer stay in the very near future. We had our dog with us and I'm convinced he enjoyed it just as much as we did. The views of the fells are breathtaking and most memorable. The owners gave us clear and concise directions to the bungalow and made sure it was nice and warm for our arrival, they even tried to catch us twice to ensure we were ok but unfortunately on this occasion we didn't meet. Ample parking space, and fuel for the woodburner provided. Thank you Mr & Mrs B.

It is tucked away from the everyday comings and goings of city life and gives you time to relax and enjoy the countryside. The bungalow is ideal for a couple, very comfortable with a log burning fire set in a beautiful location.. Everything you need is supplied & there is even a log store outside the kitchen door. The bungalow is on the fells above Staveley & is set in an ideal location for exploring the Lakes. We really enjoyed our Christmas break & will definitely be returning for another stay.

Just spent Christmas at the bungalow, the views of the fells are fantastic. The bungalow is well fitted out with everything you need including a log store for the fire. the location is ideal for exploring the lakes, Windermere is about 5mls away. The owners called to see us on the first night just to make sure eveything was ok. We will definateley be returning, as the bungalow is located on the fells the walks & views are fantastic.

Ghyll Bank Bungalow was unsuitable for us because none of 3 mobile phones could get coverage and on our first night while lighting remained available, power ceased to work, so WiFi ceased too. That is not tenable for older people, even though we were and are in good health. The owner seemed more interested in rent than service, as towels were not provided, yet bed linen was and our phone discussion after driving in to Stavely felt dismissive. We bought towels in Kendall. We left next day and forewent any refund.

Service from owners excellent; called round to see us, friendly, helpful and sorted out a Wifi issue. Bungalow well equipped and location superb. Near Staveley with local shops, brewery and 2 pubs. Large garden great for the dogs. Very quiet and peaceful. Liked least? Not a problem, but the lounge area was very small

The remote location of the cottage, but still within walking distance of Stavely. We had a snow fall on the Saturday with icy roads and drive all week. The owners arranged for the drive to be cleared. The local farmers were helpful. The walks were great in the snow. Highly recommended.

The location is really beautiful and the cottage, though small, is very comfortable. A good place from which to explore the South East of the Lakes. We also had brilliant weather which helps. The only downside is the fact that this cottage is so near the much larger rental property next door. The people there for our week were fine, but we still felt "outnumbered" at times.

Gyll bank Cottage, is a lovely little place to stay for a Holiday,Everything was what you needed in it,and the views were great too. so lovely and quiet around, except the Magpie tapping on our Bedroom Window after no doubt a Morsel to find at 4am in morning, frightening myself and Hubby !!! All in all we will be going back in the Future maybe in the Summer time to get the chance to sit out on the Bench with a cuppa/ Wine in the Sun.

From the moment we arrived at this beautiful cottage, we felt at home straight away. The surroundings and view were like a romantic painting, the hills and views were dreamscape-like and gorgeous. The cottage was impeccable and done in great taste, when one hit the pillow at night we slept wonderfully. to eat ones breakfast in the morning with a glorious view is all one could ask for. I and my friends will definitely book this cottage in the future because it had such an impact on all of us.
