Holiday home Foxgloves Cottage is a stone built cottage which adjoins the owners' farmhouse, two miles from the town of Wigton, near to the Lake District National Park. Boasting three bedrooms, comprising of one family room with a double and adult bunk beds, one double bedroom and one twin bedroom, this cottage sleeps eight people. The cottage also has a family bathroom and a family shower room, a kitchen with a dining area and a sitting room with an open fire. To the outside of this cottage there is a garden with furniture and ample parking. Foxgloves Cottage is an ideal holiday cottage for exploring Cumbria and the Lake District National Park.
Area With a charter granted in 1262, the traditional Cumbrian market town of Wigton still holds a market each Tuesday in the covered market hall. This lovely town is a popular centre for shopping, pubs and restaurants, as well as for other activities such as theatre, bowls, swimming, tennis and other sports. The Lord Melvyn Bragg novel, 'A Time to Dance', featured the town of Thurston, which was based on Wigton and the local area. The town is just 18 miles from Penrith and so makes an excellent base from which to explore the cathedral city of Carlisle, the North Lakes and the natural beauty of the West Cumbrian Coast. The epic Roman construction, Hadrian's Wall, is within 25 miles, whilst the Scottish borders and their famous town of Gretna Green are within easy driving distance.
Region Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

Had a wonderful stay in Foxgloves Cottage.. Jan was very friendly and helpful, the cottage was wonderful, lots of space and excellent facilities. The children loved it there. All of the animals add to the experience. We would love to go there again.
The cottage is in a farmyard, it was amazing, especially seeing the 2 day old lambs.. Great owners Jan & Ed very friendly and talkative. On arrival fresh eggs and milk had been left for us. The open fire and aga gave real character to the place. It was spotless. Great location for exploring the northern lake district. Will definitely be going back there.
The cottage was great.. The owners lovely. Had trouble booking it because I do not do computers and the app was rubbish, we could not get it to work, and had to ring up for details of the key collection.
This is an excellent cottage with very friendly hosts.. There's loads of space and everything you need plus it was exceptionally clean. I've stayed in a lot of cottages over the years, so a lot of competition, but this is certainly one of the very best. Well done to Ed & Jan - we'll definitely come back and stay with you again :)
The only thing I didn't like was having to purchase compulsory insurance from Sykes. It is quite expensive and there must be better ways of covering this.
Lovely couple.. Spacious house
Liked the spacious house and lovely back garden. The owners were outstanding, a one of a kind couple. Will be booking to go back again soon.
Great location, easy to get to without a long farm track! ! Beagles and Foxhounds on the farm a delight to watch and my girls loved the chickens sitting on the windowsill in the kitchen every morning. Shame the Aga ran out of fuel mid week, but the owners had supplied an alternative cooking source and had the Aga mended by the end of the week. Owners who stayed next door were very accommodating and great with local knowledge. Property would benefit from broadband/Wi-Fi as this was the only downfall. Open fire in the lounge a real treat!!
The owners were great and dog friendly. It was great for kids, could not ask for anything better and would recommend it to anybody.
Had wonderfully hospitable owners and the working farm was great to see. The large garden was secure for the dogs and great to relax in during the evening. We will definitely go back again.
A great location to get to Hadrian's Wall and the Lake District. The property was excellent for a large group with a great kitchen and dining area, loved the Aga. The owners could not have been more welcoming and helpful. It was a really different experience on a farm which we all enjoyed.
Immaculate - kitchen facilities with aga were second to none. Huge table and it was nice for the eight of us to sit down together for a meal. Loads of animals for the children to see and feed. Owners were very laid back and friendly - nothing was too much trouble for them. Difficult to gauge the size of the rental but it was huge. Outside space was excellent with comfy seating whilst relaxing in the sun.Good access to the lakes and many other activities.
lovely owners, friendly, helpful and laid-back, great source of info on things to do and the best way to get there. The cottage was huge, with 5 adults, 3 children and 2 dogs, space was certainly not a problem. We especially loved the kitchen and the AGA is amazing. The cottage was clean and comfortable, unfortunately it was not cold enough for us to light the open fire which was all laid and ready to go if needed. The garden was massive, very secluded, private and super secure for the kids and dogs, lots of seating and views to die for! animals galore and bramble picking which the kids loved. Could happily have stayed forever..... looking forward to returning ASAP!
The house was immaculate and everything we needed was there. It was particularly spacious inside and the gardens outside were fabulous with loads of relaxing seating and a great long table to accommodate us all. We were surrounded by farm animals and our grandchildren loved meeting them all. The owners also had some puppies which the children were allowed to play with in the garden. The owners were great and extremely friendly - nothing was too much trouble for them - all the children liked chatting to them especially our Rebecca. The surrounding area had loads of things for kids to do and all reasonably priced. Keep up the good work.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the owners were wonderful and helpful.
A true farm stay with animals galore and hosts who had a vast array of experience in rural life. The physical warmth of the building as a consequence of the Aga was a real bonus.
Excellent facilities. Beautiful area with good shops.
We really enjoyed our stay at Foxgloves Cottage, all the family thought the cottage was comfortable and homely. Would definitely recommend to anyone, and hope to visit again very soon.
The owners were absolutely fantastic. The cottage is very spacious and could easily accommodate eight people. It was well maintained with all of the furniture that might be expected. The cottage is set within farmland and is ideally situated to access the Lake District National Park, Carlisle etc. I would highly recommend this cottage to everybody.
A real working farm. Owners really looked after us, including asking if the children wanted to feed the lamb and calf, they did! Top marks all round.
Loved everything about the holiday, the owners are wonderful people and nothing is to much trouble for them. The cottage was very well equipped, with everything you needed and more! The property was clean and very well kept. The bedrooms were spacious and beautifully decorated and really welcoming with warm colours. The kids enjoyed helping the owners with the animals on the farm especially feeding the lambs and were pleased to be able to see a newborn lamb, which was born the day before we left. Overall an excellent holiday, great hosts, great location, great house! We will definitely return in the future and highly recommend it!
This was avery spacious and comfortable place to stay which was exactly what we expected of a country cottage and more. The addition of it being located on a working farm enhanced our stay. The owners were friendly and helpful and nothing was abother to themand the free range eggs they supplied beautiful and stright from the nest. An all round joy of a stay
The owners were very helpful and friendly and supplied everything we needed from directions and recommendations to fresh free range eggs. It was a very very pleasant all round experience.
A wonderful holiday enjoyed by all the family, very much enhanced by the owners. We look forward to returning soon!
The warmth and kindness of the owners who were very warm and welcoming. They were most helpful, went to a lot of trouble for us and were very generous.
Foxgloves cottage was situated very conveniently at the north of the Lake District and also just south of the Scottish boarder. It was an ideal base for where we wanted to go. We found the Lakes scenic and very beautiful. The owners of Foxglove are very friendly and helpful.
A very well kept cottage, with a large farmhouse kitchen complete with aga. It was very peaceful and quiet and was a great base to stay in Cumbria
Peace and quiet. Friendliness of the hosts.
Good base, peaceful with friendly, helpful hosts.
The friendliness and welcome extended by the owners. A real gem to find.
We all stayed here for New Year Eve and loved it. The farmer and his wife were real helpful and made sure we were comfy in the cottage. It is attached to the working farm with some fab animals - sheep, dogs and horses that we got to play with ;->
there is acres of land that you can go for walks in and not to far to get to other parts but i would say a car is needed!!
the amenities were great could not ask for more - 2 bathrooms 3 bedrooms........the kitchen had all that was needed to live there..............
I do recommend the cottage to all......
It was a great environment. We got to play with all the animals on the farm which was great. This is a working farm, so it was great to go for walks. There was plenty of fuel for the open fire which was needed over the coldness of New Year!!

The agar in the kitchen was wonderful. The cottage was well equipped for all members of the family including toys for the granchildren to books and games for the adults. The granchildren adored the baby lamb which hd been born the day we arrived. The grounds were a haven tucked away which were safe for the children to explore and the farmer and his wife very hospitable.
The bedrooms were roomy and well decorated. It was one of the best holidays we have had with our son and his family for a long time even though it was the height of the season and the weather wasnt that wonderful. It would be good to hsave a bigger television in the lounge but it really wasnt a major problem...even the dog had a good time.
Really depends if you are looking for a farmhouse accommodation or a more up market modern property. For us it was ideal.
A great warm and cozy farmhouse property. The kitchen was huge well stocked and the Aga a treat. BUt the jewel were the owners, nothing was too much trouble - eggs delivered and milk. But the attention they gave my boys is not forgotton - animals and tractors - a great combination.
Fantastic hosts. The children had a fantastic time. Relaxing and warm property, well stocked. Aga a real treat to use.
It was just what we were looking for, a place to relax and chill out.
Lots of books games and toys.
Rural surroundings yet close to the sea, lakes and Scotland.
Aga oven was a real treat. The garden was big enough for us all to enjoy.
It was peaceful and quiet. Would certainly recommend the farmhouse to friends!
A comfortable, spacious place to stay with everything we needed.
We were welcomed into the accommodation, and we were able to use the fields to exercise the dogs.
The kitchen AGA - good to sit around the large kitchen table.
We enjoyed the fact that the children could play out with bats, balls etc. The owners made us feel very welcome and were very friendly. Lots of wild life to spot around the farm was a real plus to.
We would really like to return to Foxgloves cottage.
Absolutely fantastic place, people and holiday. We had a great time and the owners are remarkable people and we were privileged to meet them. Thank you so much.
Very spacious and homely - the AGA cooker fire place were fantastic.
Jennings Oddfellows pub in Coldbeck serves excellent food, also allows children in dining area.
Lots of space inside and out the house, the aga in the kitchen was great, the owners were really nice and helpful we had a great holiday.
A very warm welcome. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful providing information about the area with suggestions on places to visit. The cottage and surroundings provided the ideal peaceful spot in which to relax.
We had a lovely week at this beautiful cottage. Very clean, spacious. Nothing was to much trouble for the hosts, they were very helpful and friendly they even put up a Christmas tree and decorations. We will be returning. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
SUPURB! The whole holiday was fantastic. The owners were very friendly and helpful, nothing was to much trouble. In fact I don't think the advertisement did the inside of the cottage justice. We were extremely pleased with the size of the property, and it was spotless.
It was a really peaceful week, such a lot of wild birds in the garden, and swallows everywhere. The cottage is a good base for the Lake District and spacious.
Great for Children. Very friendly host and hostess, very helpful.
The hosts were friendly and very helpful with things to do in the area; they even booked us a table for a meal. We will defiantly return to Foxgloves next time we take a break. I would recommend anyone wanting a relaxing country break to visit Foxglove cottage.
An opportunity for a relaxing break away from the rush of day to day life and to explore this part of the country. The children particularly enjoyed helping with the animals on the farm.
Warm welcome. Well equipped cottage.
