Area
For hikers and nature watchers, Filey is a traditional English seaside town with a welcoming ambiance that makes for a relaxing vacation throughout the year. On the Yorkshire coast, a true beauty. Filey, a fishing community on the North East Coast, has a long history as a resort town thanks to its idyllic location next to Filey Bay, a long stretch of lovely beach, and Filey Brigg and its shallow rockpools to the north. A low headland that guards Filey Bay, Filey Brigg offers excellent year-round opportunities for marine and bird watching. Over 250,000 seabirds spend the summer at the 400-foot-tall Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) south of Filey Bay. There are nesting sites for gannets, kittiwakes, puffins, guillimots, and razorbills. In Filey Bay, gannets are frequently spotted diving for fish. It is easy to spot both common and uncommon waders, seabirds, and migrant warblers, finches, and thrushes in the Brigg area. Seabirds, seals, and other marine creatures including minke whales, porpoises, and dolphins can all be seen in the sea near the Brigg. The town itself possesses a retro-feel thanks to its unique stores, winding lanes, and ginnels, which give it a retro vibe.
