Really special house, wounderful location on the edge of the moors and castleton.. We and our six year old slept well the whole week. Large conservatory a real bonus and porch to store our bikes. Fabulous gardens all around the property. Had great bike rides and walks from the doorstep. Owners were very friendly and kindly shared their surplus garden produce with us. The set up allows as much privacy as we wanted. Tempted to book for next year.

Mr &Mrs Keith (owners) were super giving us free run of their gardens & couldn't have done more for us.. We would thoroughly recommend this property to anyone wanting a quiet break in a very accessible spot on the very edge of an attractive village.

Firbank cottage is the perfect base for tranquil and relaxing holidays.. We thouroughly enjoyed our stay. Everything was spotlessly clean and tidy, and the cottage is well equipped and spacious. We loved the conservatory with its view of the huge trees and its secludedness. Our hosts were lovely and we felt very much at home in the cottage. On next occasion, we will be back again.

Excellent base from which to explore the area.. The owners were friendly and helpful. We particularly enjoyed sitting in the conservatory in the mornings having breakfast and reading and being able to admire the garden and local birdlife. Thanks to everyone.

Great cottage, beautifully decorated and maintained, with a lovely conservatory and garden.. The local train was useful for getting to Whitby or just along the Esk Valley for scenic walks. Plenty to do in the area. Great local pub (Eskdale Arms) with an extensive menu, really good food and very friendly. The cottage is highly recommended.

Wow what a week we've just had at Firbank Cottage, it couldn't have been better. Super property with everything you need to have a great time, sitting in the sun lounge or outside the garden is amazing. Castleton is lovely there is a well stocked Co-Op, smashing pubs and a train station which will take you to Whitby or Middlesbrough. We had some great walks across the moors which were stunning. A lovely lovely holiday and one which will last long in the memory. We will return :-)

Beautiful cottage with all necessary facilities to enhance your holiday.. Miles and Suze are wonderful hosts. It is a little isolated and the walk to the pub is down the hill (and back up after a pint!). The views, however, are amazing, the gardens beautiful and the whole experience very relaxing. Absolutely to be recommended. We were there for a month and were never bored. Lovely!

Fantastic property with wonderful hosts.. The setting of the cottage was superb, the garden was lovely. Castleton was a great base for our walks and sightseeing. The pub at the bottom of the hill was welcoming and did good food. We had a fabulous week and will be returning next year.

The cottage exceeded our expectations.. It was extremely well equipped and the conservatory was much bigger than it looked on the website and a glorious place both to sit and to have our meals. The welcome we got from the owners was second to none. They allowed us to roam all over their grounds, and the garden and the surrounding area was a real treat for us as bird watchers and nature lovers. Apart from one trip to the coast the car was idle all week. Highly recommended.

Firbank is a charming property overlooking garden and moors.. The cottage is well-equipped and comfortable with a super conservatory to relax in and two roomy and well-furnished bedrooms. The garden is beautifully maintained and the pond and wooded area were great to explore and to relax with a G and T before supper. The host was very helpful and friendly and we would thoroughly recommend a stay here. Visits to Whitby, Staithes and Pickering (by steam train) are recommended and we also enjoyed the beach and cliff walk from Robin Hoods Bay and the Rosedale moor walk which takes in the mine kilns. We hope to return and further explore the area as there is so much to do.

The garden and surrounding woodlands are stunning - great fun for the family to explore before even leaving the property. Walks over the moors are available from the front gate and the Yorkshire coastline has plenty to offer within a short drive.

The owners were gracious, charming and very welcoming hosts to this wonderful little cottage in an idyllic garden setting. The cottage is cosy, with everything one could possibly need, with a spacious and airy conservatory overlooking a well tended garden that was overflowing with spring flowers during our visit. The log fireplace in the lounge was a wonderful place to retire to after dinner each evening. The cottage adjoins the main home, which is reassuring, but is entirely private. Thoroughly recommended.

If you are looking for a place away from it all to unwind and relax in a stunning country setting this is the place for you! Most people would suggest a car for this location however with a bit of gracious help we managed arrival by train and most travel by foot. It is a hearty uphill walk from the train station but we made it numerous times and I am a reasonably fit 60. The WiFi worked great...our cell coverage not so much. (Check out carriers in advance or better yet leave the cell phone behind.) The garden is gorgeous, the property is well maintained and delightfully decorated. The owners are as engaging or leave you to yourself, as you wish. This setting in the North Yorkshire moors is just steps away from the Eskdale trail and miles, and miles and miles of fine hikes. This would make a fine romatic getaway or a family vacation. I would not recommend for someone with the inability to climb stairs, irregardless of age. There is a wonderful attached sunroom which is lovely even on a rainy day. We had some stunning sunsets. The nearby pub had excellent food and the Cooperative market is about a mile away. You can take the train to any number of other delightful villages all the way out to Whitby which is a lovely seaside town. I had not been to this area before and quickly fell in love with its expansive landscapes, green vales and moody moors. If you like cities with hustle and bustle this may not be the place for you. I feel very fortunate that Miles and Suzie have shared their lovely home with us. The cottage is attached to the larger house yet there is complete privacy and no noise at all between the cottage and the main house. You have your own patio and outdoor space. There is ample parking and it is a quiet setting but not far from town. Lots of birds for bird watchers. If you go do put the North Yorkshire Moors Visitor Centre on your must see list. Located in nearby Danby. There is a well apointed gift shop, climbing wall and fun activities for the kids. A lovely art gallery and adjacent Tea Room. Their carrot cake was the best I have had anywhere. We were so busy we did not have time to watch the well stocked DVD library but did use the numerous hiking guides and maps. This is what a holiday should be about!
