This cottage is very, very dated.. One of the chairs had it’s arm hanging off. The sofa had a cover on which was awful! Before we could use the cooker we had to clean the knobs on it they were filthy. The cleanliness of the place was terrible from having to clean the cooker knobs to cobwebs and dirty skirting boards. We will NOT be visiting here again!

We’ve had a wonderful week at Ffos y Ffin.. It’s a lovely, characterful, bright and spacious cottage with the advantage of the modern addition of huge picture windows in the large kitchen/dining/living room that make the most of the beautiful views. The surrounding land – moorland, farmland and rolling hills, can be accessed directly from the garden gate, so our car could enjoy a few days off, too. We barely used the second living-room (with TV) but it’s an attractive, cosy space and would be very useful for larger groups/families. Handy to have both a downstairs and upstairs bathroom, too. There is plenty of wildlife- birds flocking to the feeders, house martins nesting under the eaves, red kites circling above, bank voles… and lots of plants for pollinators. We’ve stayed in a lot of holiday cottages, and this was one of the best.

Beautiful house and location.. Comfortable and relaxed interior. Very rural and isolated - perfect for us. Our only problems were communicating with Sykes, particularly over directions and keys which didn't arrive at the stated time. To be fair this was during Covid-19 and no doubt they were taking lots of calls.

In November/December This cottage was perfect for us because we are from a farming background, loved the remoteness, and the views were breathtaking.. The interior was like going back in time! But for us with wellies on,( which you definitely needed here) and with a dog was easy to clean due to the flooring. We are used to using a log burner so soon got the cottage warm without putting on the CH. not sure how some people would cope though? The only downside for us was the very limited parking as we had 3 4x4's and turning around was very difficult. And there was no washing up liquid! I would definitely return to this cottage, as I felt for a cottage sleeping 7 people was great value for money and literally 2 mins from my niece. Loved the pictures. I would just make it clearer this accommodation is very basic and very remote. And quite away from any shops. Also I would recommend a hot tub!! We had a great weekend thank you. We

Despite very wet weather we enjoyed our stay in this secluded spot.. Being able to walk across the common from the door was great, as was the woodburning stove and the fact the cottage warmed up quickly even on the first night. We were able to enjoy walks slightly further afield once the rain stopped and found the selection of maps very helpful.

An amazing character cottage in a beautiful remote setting.. Comfy , homey and well recommended. Shame the log burner is missing from the living room.

Ffos-y-Ffin is such a lovely place and was so comfortable for our group of 5.. It was a little icy getting up the driveway, but it was doable with care. The cottage itself is more spacious than it looks in pictures, and after we'd worked out how to get all the radiators going properly was very cosy even on a snowy weekend. It really felt like home. The cottage adjoins some beautiful open access moorland and it was wonderful to be able to just walk out across that in any direction. Our only two complaints: The kitchen could be better stocked - knives (as is often the way with holiday cottages) are so blunt they might as well be spoons. A sharpening stone and some better chopping boards (the ones there are very hard so probably helped blunt the knives) would be very welcome. Also missing a garlic crusher, tin opener is useless and the frying pan has all the non stick peeling off. Could be a few more large pans, too. There were only 5 of us, but the cottage sleeps 7 and you would struggle to cook for 7 with what is there. The brand new wood burner in the kitchen is very pretty but throws out almost no heat, even when your hand is right next to it. Far too small for that room! Nothing that would put us off a return visit though - I'm sure we'll be back (with a few of our own cooking utensils!).

Great cottage.. The Sykes website made it easy for me to find exactly what I was looking for - a cottage in Wales in an isolated location, for the dates I wanted. The owners of the cottage sent through helpful directions and instructions for picking up keys, using heating, etc. I would definitely book this cottage again and will certainly be using Sykes again. Thanks!

Cleaning of the cottage was very poor.. (when the cleaner visited us to deliver bread knife and potato peeler she informed us that she spent 6 hours cleaning the cottage that the Saturday we turned up, cottage did not smell of any cleaning chemicals and the floor was still muddy and dirty inside the front door) It was missing basic cook equipment. Potato peeler, bread knife, large cooking dishes. Log burner was missing rope seal. Chairs is the kitchen are falling apart. Sofa's in the kitchen were filthy under the cushions. Fridge was mouldy. Generally the house is in a very poor state of repair. Front door has paint peeling, not a good first impression. TV in the kitchen did work, we got it work for a few minutes for the new years eve fireworks! Plus points Fantastic location. extremely quiet and peaceful we were not disturbed at all. Could be a beautiful place to stay with a little bit of work, it was let down by a few minor things that could have been easily cured.

We have stayed here twice now, and will be booking two weeks for next year. The cottage is a Charming rustic place and has good facilities. Now its an old farm house not the ritz ok, i have read some of the reviews here which in my honest opinion are unfair. Ok you get flies in the country guys but we booght some fly papers in Rhayader and it was sorted. Now as for the mud comments you need to get a life. You get muddy walking across any countryside if its wet. But i have taken photos of the driveway and gat areas for you to see its har packed stone. As for the drive in take it slow enjoy the views. There are three gates the one from the main road goes up past the farm cottage thats a metal road as you open first gate, drive with care digs maybe and sheep. There are two more gates to the holiday cottage. Someone complained about having to open gates, i wonder does he have doors on his property. So you get parked up on the parking hard gravel patch no mud. Enjoy the cottage sit outside with a cuppa and watch the amazing display of red kites. There is loads to do in the area as the Elan dams are only 35 mins away. I would say if you want a bit of luxury take the bits you need, we took our coffee grinder and caffitier also my kitchen knives and big chopping board. I would also take a big pan if you cook bolognaise or curry etc. However there is a full set of pans provided. There is a Bath and seoerate power shower which is really good. If you do not want to cook the pub in Llanbister has a great menu we called in three times it was good quality. If you have a dog there is a dog room if you want to go out with beds and dog towels in case of mud. I would like to say how much we enjoy the tranquil surroundings yo can sit outside for hours, we never used the tv at all, but fed the birds and watched them.

It was a lovely Christmas location, we had 2 dogs so we needed a location which accommodated for them and this cottage did.. The route to the cottage is not the best due to its very rural location, the neighbors were very friendly The cottage has a nice welcoming feel with it with a good standard of accommodation If you are looking for a very dog friendly, remote location this is highly recommended

Nice place, bit hard to find so instructions could be tweaked a little.. Beautiful views, ideal if you want a remote getaway for a weekend. May be worth noting that the pub in Llanbister (The Lion Hotel) is not open all day (12-2 Sat and Sun) and didn't serve the curries on a Sunday. Still, was a nice walk.

wonderfully remote, this spacious cottage is tastefully decorated and furnished. Large garden with plenty of shade. Access would be challenging for us off season in our little cars as there is a large cattle field with sparse hardcore to cross and ground is quite uneven. Also up to 4 gates to open/close. If the hardcore was reinstated we would use this cottage year round. Cottage was clean throughout with the exception of kitchen appliances. Oven/microwave were in need of a thorough clean and freezer compartment in fridge was frozen up with previous occupants food still in there. however this cottage's location and space would draw us back especially if the garden was made more dog proof, well worth the effort for all those dog owners I would be happy to recommend the cottage to if this was done.

When first arriving at the cottage without warning you have to get in and out of your car to open gates ankle deep in mud not once but twice it's the only way to get to the property and everytime you leave or return you can't go to the shops or for a meal without getting coverd we have stayed in cottages at this time of year but never had to get out of the car into several inches of mud this needs the 80 metre drive sorted out beware .
