Great quiet location for the west lakes, ideal location for walkers and water sports.. Bit remote for the likes of pubs and restaurants. Friendly easy going hosts. A real working farm which would be wonderful for young family's.

Friendly hosts.. Picturesque location but don’t try taking a low-slung car down the farm track. No pub in the village but can recommend lunch in the tea room. We were there as a couple and it was ideal but feel that four adults might find it snug, especially downstairs. There is only one toilet and it is located downstairs. This may possibly be an issue in the night. Very quiet part of Cumbria if you want to avoid the crowds and great walking close by.

Great cottage in a peaceful location.. Really helpful hosts and great for walks to the beach.

The cottage was extremely comfortable, cosy and well equipped.. It was easy to find, the directions were accurate and helpful signs had been provided. There were beautiful views from the cottage, excellent local walks, and plenty of things to do within a short drive, or just a train ride away. The railway station is outside the village, but train trips are well worth trying as the views from the train are spectacular. The local shop is stocked with all the essentials. The cottage is on a working farm with plenty of animals to see, and there are three very well-behaved dogs. The owners are always friendly and helpful, they gave us a warm welcome and were always ready to help with any queries or problems. We have had an excellent holiday and were sad to leave.

Such Lovely Hosts, A Beautiful Family.. This is such a relaxing Cottage and very clean. My children loved it and didn't want to return home. Waking up to the beautiful view and on a working farm was awesome, a good experience for my city kids. Definitely returning for Longer next time.

It's a lovely cottage on a farm in the countryside with stunning views.. With 1 bedroom with a double bed and the other with 2 single beds, this cottage is well suited for couples and families alike. The interior is largely high end and might even be too fancy for some people (e.g. We visited the cottage with our 6 month old baby and were scared of staining the nice table cloth so removed it.). The cottage, and in particular the kitchen, is well kitted out; you'll find everything you need to cook a nice meal for the family (you'd only need to bring the food). The owners have also kindly provided a booklet with information about local shops, restaurants and other amenities. They even provided a cot and a high chair for our baby. Where there is room for improvement is the heating arrangement. We visited the cottage in November when it was already quite cold in Bootle. There were no radiators downstairs in the living room and kitchen, only a wood stove which you kept having to load with pre-chopped wood from just outside the cottage. I supposed, while this added to the country feel of the cottage, it could get annoying to keep having to go outside to get the wood and filling up the stove. Also, this meant that you had to be home and awake to keep it warm. In the mornings when we'd come down or when we'd return from a day out, it would be freezing and would take quite some time to warm up after starting the fire. There were radiators upstairs in the bedrooms but they were pre-set and timed so it would sometimes get quite cold there too. It would have been nice to be able to control the heat ourselves. However, after mentioning to Jim and Anne, the owners, that we would like more heat they were more than happy to help and gave us a portable radiator. This helped to some extent but of course that radiator could only be in 1 room at a time. I was most concerned about the heat because of our baby e.g. having to change him in a cold room. The owners, Jim and Anne, and their family are very nice people who were more than happy to help with any query and Jim and his daughter even gave us an informative tour of the farm! And they were very kind to us when we accidentally broke the glass of the wood stove while loading it with wood. I'm not sure if I'd return to the cottage with a baby in the winter but all in all, it was a very nice and cosy place to visit and we'd definitely recommend it.

Anne, Jim and family were such friendly people and allowed us to see the farm animals (including a new born calf) and watch some jobs on the farm which was fascinating for the kids (even though they are teenagers! ). The cottage was beautiful, spotless and equipped with everything for a relaxing holiday away with children. The beds were really comfy and the cottage really cosy. The views from the cottage are outstanding and so peaceful. There are so many beautiful places to visit all within 30 mins to an hour away. We only wished we could have stayed longer!

The cottage was perfect and we spent a wonderful week there enjoying everything that the area has to offer (including Muncaster Castle, Ravenglass to Eskdale railway and Silecroft beach).. The cottage was very clean and cosy and everything we needed was provided. Our two young boys enjoyed their time on the farm especially their time in the garden, playing with the farm dogs and the cat. The owners of the farm were very welcoming and friendly and gave us lots of suggestions of things to do in the area. We would definitely recommend the cottage to others and we hope to return in the future. Thank you.

The cottage was in great location for the Coniston and nearby areas, with fantastic views over the local countryside and it's based on a working farm which was a bonus for us and our children.. The owners - Jim and Anne were fantastic hosts, welcoming us when we arrived and ensuring everything was fine and as expected. The cottage itself was wonderful and really well kitted out with everything you need for a break, whether cooking in or going out it's great a stay. Our children also loved getting to know the farm pets, we felt totally at home from start to end. Dan - Milton Keynes

The hosts here were the right balance of friendly and welcoming but left us to enjoy this lovely barn conversion.. We found a full tea tray with biscuits and a bottle of wine waiting for us on arrival. The beds were super comfy and there were extra blankets if needed. Bringing in the logs and lighting the wood burner was a ritual every evening and it was great to have a limitless supply. The views from the cottage are beautiful and the children loved seeing the horses in the adjacent field. Jim was very kind and showed the children the new lambs and new born calves whilst everyone enjoyed throwing sticks for the farm dogs who are very friendly. The location to the west of the lake district meant we enjoyed peace and quiet away from the crowds, visiting some of the more remote corners including Wast Water but still being only 30 minutes from Coniston. Being so near the coast too meant we could easily reach the beach for walks and the odd family game of football. Bootle is a lovely village with a well stocked shop. We enjoyed a great holiday here and would recommend it to anyone.

Phone signal is limited but is available at the bottom of the cottage garden.. With this in mind a Wi-Fi connection would be ideal within the cottage. ****Owner Response**** I am sorry that you found the phone signal limited in the area, we did have Wifi during your stay and I would have been able to assist you with this. I have now updated the Wifi to a super fast broadband which I hope you will be able to experience should you come back to our property in future.

Lovely cottage and owners.. Spec of cottage was a high standard , there is a shop near by , 2 mins in car or a 15 min walk. On a working farm with cows and horses. If you like remote then this is the place but also an hours drive gets you to most tourist attractions. Walks from cottage as well for a day out.

September 2016
The owners and hosts, Anne and Jim, were most welcoming and the little touches in the cottage - a bottle of wine, fresh flowers - were delightful.. On our day of departure we were even given a jar of homemade Fell View beetroot chutney. This type of attention to detail makes holidays that bit more special, personal and memorable. The cottage is perfectly sited as a central "hub" to visit and enjoy the amazing beauty spots of the western Lake District for walking and cycling (the Eskdale Trail was a great ride!) or to visit the favoured tourist attractions. If you want to stay put at the cottage then you can enjoy a cozy fire or sit in the swing seat on the patio, drinking wine and watching the house martins dart across the sky. The holiday was the peaceful retreat we had sought and we were well rewarded!
