This is the first time we have ever rented a house but we would definitely consider doing it again.. Wonderful!

Slightly odd layout - living room was between kitchen and dining room.. Tv is one side of room and sofa the other with the kitchen door between so you’re constantly walking in front of tv viewers between kitchen and dining room. Only a small detail but irritating. The dining room would make a lovely lounge/sitting room if swapped around.

The cottage was very comfortable and extremely clean with great kitchen utensils.. The utility room was a bonus after wet days walking. Having a tele in each room was outstanding, not that we had time to use them! Very well placed for the quieter part of the Lakes but also a good gateway to the whole national park. Nice touch of leaving welcome biscuits too. We walked all day and played games all evening. Just fantastic.

My family stayed here for 3 nights and we all enjoyed our stay. We were asked if we would like the beds making up before arrival which we thought was a bit strange as this is something you would expect to be done for you anyway. The lady we had to contact for access details was a little abrupt on the phone, so we weren't sure what to expect. On arrival we were pleasantly surprised, however the driveway is quite steep so would recommend parking on the road, plus it is meant to be a shared drive. Not sure why though as the house next door is "a work in progress." A bit of an eyesore to be quite honest, a new build that has been squeezed in the corner and failed to be finished off for some reason. The property is in a quiet little village with a few little local amenities such as a post office, butchers, cafe, small petrol station and 3 pubs. The house is fairly large, however there is not enough seating in the living room for the amount people it sleeps. We found the information booklet provided by owner had quite a few rules in it. Some of which we thought were a little abrupt, as they were written in CAPITAL LETTERS. It also states that you must strip all of your beds on the day of departure which we have never had to do anywhere else we have stayed. Check out time is 10am which is a little unfair considering you can not check in until 3pm on the day of arrival. An extra hour would make all the difference, especially if you have young children and beds to strip before leaving The bathroom fan Is very noisy and hopfully with get fixed. A nice touch is the board games for children.

GOrse Bank is in such a good location if, like us, you don't want to get in the car every day.. An excellent grocer and baker are a short walk from the house with everything you need. There are also pubs serving food, including a Sunday roast at the Old Kings Head. Everyone was extremely friendly and that made the holiday even more special. On our last evening we went to the Blacksmiths Arms at Broughton Mills which is a really great family-run pub with an exciting menu of chef-cooked special meals. Such an authentic Lakeland atmosphere which was very special. We enjoyed some nice walks and touristy trips. The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway cannot be beaten for a lovely day out through wonderful scenery ending near Scafell with great walks before getting the train back. If you are interested in history don't miss Town End, a historic CUmberland farmhouse, but parking can be difficult there. Highlight - a trip on the steam gondola at Lake Coniston. Lovely holiday in an exceptionally good spacious yet cosy cottage.

This holiday cottage was a total pleasure from the moment we contacted the owner about accessing keys, throughout the whole week we wanted for nothing and when it came time to leave we were all wanting to return in the future.. The house was very comfortable, was well equipped and located perfectly to access the beauty of Coniston and Windermere. We would recommend without reservation this lovely house for large families.

Considering the number of occupants in the cottage the seating arrangements could have been greater.. The cottage was very well equipped and central to the local amenities, good pub, bakery & butchers nearby. On the whole everyone enjoyed their stay here and would stay here again

We had a super week at this lovely property.. It was clean, spacious and comfortable and had one of the most well-provisioned kitchens I’ve come across in many years of renting holiday cottages. We loved the garden too and patio area which was super for an outside meal or drink although people with very young children will need to be aware of the steep and uneven stone steps up to the lawn. The cottage is well located. There were seven of us plus baby in the party (one of the seven was a two year old) and our one frustration was that there wasn’t quite enough ‘comfy’ seating to accommodate all of us in the living room of an evening. Parties of six/seven might want to be aware of that. (Luckily we didn’t want to all spend every evening in so most nights it wasn’t a problem)

A very well positioned cottage - only literally round the corner from the local pubs and shops. The perfect base for a long weekend exploring the Lake District.

Gorse Bank is a good centre for exploring the south west Lake District. It was close to the village and there were two very good pubs. We enjoyed exploring Walney Island and Millom - places we probably wouldn't have visited unless staying at Gorse Bank.

Accommodation was spacious (for 4) and comfortable. The house was warm and cosy. Broughton is a good location for visiting the Lakes, plenty of facilities but far enough away from the tourist hot-spots and with fairly good access to most areas.

We stayed here the first week in June, when the sun shone all week!!!Gorse bank is a lovely house, spacious and well equipped, and very clean. The only downside is that towels aren't provided which we didn't realise,so we bought some. It's a 2min walk to the village, with a butcher[lovely sausages]baker a bit pricey[£1-60 for 1 bun]greengrocer,P O and garage. Our favourite pub/restaurant was the Biacksmiths Arms, the food was great.Sitting on the square on an evening at the local Manor Arms enjoying a pint or two was lovely and relaxing. The house s well positioned for getting about,we went to Ulveston,Coniston,Haverigg,Keswick, and Hawshead. We would definately recommend Gorse Bank.

The house was very well equipped and close to some nice pubs and basic amenities which meant that despite New Year's weekend, we could easily get some bits and pieces we needed. Also the scenic beauties were only some 20 miles away from the cottage. The fireworks display at the town square was absolutely wonderful!
