Self-Catering Reviews

Mr Scott
September 2020
Elder Cottage was superbly well equipped and spotlessly clean.. With the cleaning regime implemented by the owners during this Covid pandemic we were able to feel that all was being done that could be done to offer the protection we wanted.

August 2020
Elder cottage is well stocked and amazingly clean.. The owner has taken extreme care that the stream infront of the cottage is accesible to young children go look at but is fenced off including a bridge ,so very safe. There is a couple of swings and a goat enclosure. The rooms were spacious except the bunk bed room. The 3 bathrooms were very handy. The cottage is sited very rurally with an easy walk on fields near the cottage . The cottage has 2 televisions one in the living room and one in the dining, teenage son said great plus. Kidwelly is close enough with its Castle and shops. Pembrey is a tame beach 5 miles away. We explored Brecon Beacons and the Gower which are an hour away and St Davids which is a bit more. We even caught some surfing at Newgale. The cottage had the space to accomodate all our equipment and needs for these trips. Full marks. My husband felt the dvds could be updated but small issue. Highly recommend a visit.

The cottage is as lovely as the pictures show.. The thing it doesn't show well enough is how huge the rooms are. Plenty of space for 4 adults and 4 children to relax in. The owner Sue was very pleasent an on hand if needed. A great base for anyone wanting to explorer the area. Pembery beach and country park is a short 10 min drive away which we visited nearly every day. Would highly recommend.

The cottage is fantastic, a real gem.. It’s spacious and really well equipped. The hosts were lovely. The location is fantastic for totally totally unwinding. The wonderful countryside views amidst the peace and quiet make it impossible not to relax. Will be back for sure

Considering the current climate regarding cleanliness and COVID-19, the owners went to a lot of trouble to ensure our stay was pleasant from the very beginning.. There were many thoughtful touches in the cottage and Sue went out of her way to be helpful when needed. She was prompt to respond to questions and was very considerate of our safety while we were there. A great holiday was had by three generations. Thank you.

June 2019
One of the best-equipped holiday lets we have ever stayed in - couldn't fault it.. Facilities second to none, REALLY good for my disabled husband, the downstairs bedroom, wet room and level floor - and garden - were all easily accessible for him in his wheelchair. The level of cleanliness was the best I have ever seen, too, and the owners went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed - even to the extent of lending my two-year-old grandson a sit-and-ride tractor for the week which he loved. Would have no hesitation in recommending this to everyone.

The house had everything you could possibly ask for, the play area outside for the children was excellent, our youngest daughter learnt to ride a bike whilst there. The hot tub was a huge plus and we took advantage of it every night. We couldn't fault our stay at Elder Cottage at all!

We stayed here for 1 week in June 2014. We travelled as an extended family with 2 dogs. The cottage is decorated to a very high standard. It is wonderful to stay in such a quality well equipped house where dogs are welcome. The garden is large and completely enclosed which takes nothing away from the stunning views but gives the freedom and peace of mind for children and dogs . This makes life so relaxing. The beaches are stunning at pen bry country park 8 miles in total. 6 of which are dog friendly. Rhossili beach is well worth the journey Machynys golf course is excellent should you wish to play We were fortunate to have glorious weather for the whole week, this meant picnics daily and eating outside at the cottage in the mornings and the evenings.....fabulous. We would love to return it really was that good. The hot tub felt such a treat too.

The photos of this property and gardens do not do it justice. The barn conversion is very large, beautifully decorated and furnished with every detail attended to. My two young children enjoyed the play area and duck pond and I felt they were safe in the enclosed garden. Hot tub a bonus - nice and private from the road. Great location. Close to beach, castles and main town. The owner and staff are friendly and helpful. We had a very pleasant holiday and will go again.

We have stayed here once before, we loved it so much we just had to come back. The hosts are so attentive, the cottage is ideal as so is the location for travelling around. Very comfortable cottage, and the hot tub is ideal after a long day out! Everything is thought of. Will definately visit again.

This was the second time we have stayed at Elder Cottage, and won't be the last! We love the cottage itself, there is plenty of room for everyone, the hosts are so accommodating, and couldn't do enough for us. The cottage is in a lovely situation and a good base for visiting the area.

We have stayed in several cottages and log cabins but Elder Cottage was far superior. The rooms were very spacious and the lounge was so relaxing with a log burner. The bathrooms were spotless and the cleaning was immaculate.

We stayed here March 2013, had one day of poor weather but the rest of the week was fabulous (a little chilly but the roaring fire every evening made it feel like we could have been in a hot country). The setting is marvellous, so tranquil but with life around us (hence the working farm element) so it doesn't feel too remote. So much to see and do in the local area we're going to have to go back again soon to fill the gaps. Highlights were Pembury country park with its gorgeous 8 miles of sandy beach, Bury Ports pretty harbour and the restaurant (brasserie) in the golf club spa (Machynys) in Llanelli and Carmarthen for good shopping. As well as St David's and Tenby. Children absolutely love it, to see the animals, tractor, water birds, birds if prey and a park in the garden was fantastic, my daughter was not bored for a minute. She even ventured up to the bit tub for a look but didn't fancy going in, we left that to Daddy. Such friendly and welcoming proprietors and the facilities and quality of the cottage made it feel like 5* luxury, it was really a fantastic place to stay. I will be recommending it to all my friends and family. Cannot praise highly enough.

Excellent accommodation; spacious and well furnished. Very friendly, helpful owners. Garden and surrounding area lovely. A good stay for exploring South Wales - e.g. the Gower, Laughaune, and further afield Tenby and St. Davids. Some lovely beaches nearby.

March 2012
The welcome when we arrived and once in the cottage, the space and comfort ability was excellent for our family of 4 adults plus one dog. The area was very peaceful, albeit in a farm setting, we all had great nights sleep and the extra cost to use the hot tub was well worth the spend. Would definitely return.

This was our first stay at Elder Cottage but second visit to Morfa Bach Farm Cottages and all cottages are of a very high standard. The cottage has the benefit of excellent facilities and a good central position to explore South West Wales. A car is essential as the property is situated approx 2 miles off a main road, but the walks in the immediate area are wonderful. Tips for places to visit while you stay include: Gower - amazing beaches and scenery Pembrey Country Park - very local 10 min drive, great beach and activities for the family Carmarthen - local major town and nearest cinema (for those wet days!) Castles - with six castles in a 30 mile radius you're spoilt for choice, our personal favourite is Dinefwr. We have already booked our third returning visit to Morfa Bach Farm Cottages and would not hesitate in recommending to others.

October 2010
Our disabled friend was thrilled with all aspects of this property, eg space, furnishings, fittings and access. We all enjoyed the surroundings, and it confirms our high opinion of all three properties we have so far holidayed at. We have often recommended your cottages to many people.

August 2010
The fact that it did everything that it said on the tin, we could not and would not want to fault our fantastic accommodation. We had a disabled guest and finding a nice homely venue without it being too clinical is extremely difficult however, Elder Cottage provided everything and more. In fact our disabled guest said it had been the best week of her life. Another important point was the warm welcome from the owners of the property, such a wonderful family who offered oodles of information about the area but equally respected your privacy. A truly fantastic week, its an absolute must that we will return next year.
Mr McLenaghan
July 2010
The standard of the accommodation was above our expectation, there was everything and more included in the cottage. The cleanliness was particularly pleasing as was the position of the cottage and the outlook over the Welsh countryside. The cottage was well placed to explore the South of Wales area and there was plenty of literature in the cottage that told you what was available in the surrounding towns. The cottage is well kitted out for disabled or infirm residents. Overall the quality of the cottage ensured that our first visit to the South of Wales was an enjoyable occasion and will certainly ensure that we will book again with Sykes Holidays.
Mrs Rogers

Everything was to a very high standard ... a very warm welcome. The views of the farmland around are brilliant and the lovely Penbury beach and country park is only a 10 minute drive away. Rocky, our dog, was safe in the garden and loved it too!!

The owner made our family very welcome. The standard of the property was exceptional and the owners hard work and effort is keeping it to such a high standard is evident. The farm was lovely and picturesque with plenty for the children to do in safety. It was fantastic for our boys to see a working farm with lots of tractors, whilst the hay was being collected. We came back thoroughly relaxed and would highly recommend Elder Cottage
