That said, there are plenty of wonderful cafes and historic neighbourhoods within walking distance, so you don't have to rely on four wheels all the time. And even when you're looking to travel further afield, it's a short stroll to the trolley stop, which can whisk you to the Gaslamp Quarter. Alternatively, take the COASTER train north to chic beach towns like Solana Beach, Encinitas and Carlsbad.
