Self-Catering Reviews

Mrs Wilson
May 2019
We have regularly booked cottages with Sykes cottages and always been happy with the property.. We felt that this property was substandard, the decor and furnishings were tired looking and were in need of refreshing and updating. The parking space at the property was very narrow to get into, anyone with a large 4x4 would not be able to get through the gates therefore would not be able park off road. With regards to the rental of this property we felt it was expensive. We have previously rented a property in Morpeth through Sykes Cottages, which was outstanding and over £100 cheaper. We are sorry to give such poor feedback, but we feel that you need to check this property to see if it comes up to your standards for holiday lettings. Wilson May 2019

Lovely Cottage in perfect location to look around Morpeth.. The Kitchen was really a really good standard and well equipped. The beds are lovely and comfy. The only thing I would say is that the living room furniture may need updated as they weren’t the comfiest to relax on. Think if they were updated it would make it a really comfy and cosy cottage. If we ever visit Morpeth again we would look to stay here!

Only one small complaint, more of a suggestion for future guests.. Don,t park on the drive by the house. when the workman are working on the building, next door. We left our car there, to go into Newcastle by bus, and came back to find it covered in pieces of cement, and dust from the building work. These have had to be carefully cleaned off so as not to cause scratching and a repolish of the vehicle. Plus they start work at 8am,so anyone wanting a lie in may have a problem.Perhaps while the work is going on a word of warning would be helpfull, to future guests. Otherwise the cottage was fine, and we enjoyed our stay.

An excellently appointed cottage, very comfortable.. The cottage is well positioned in the middle of Morpeth which is a lovely town. We visited many of the local attractions such as the beaches, Cragside and Holy Island. We would thoroughly recommend this cottage and the area.

April 2018
The accommodation was excellent but unfortunately there was a step from the kitchen and a step in the shower/toilet room.. I book the accommodation as it listed ground floor bed room and shower/toilet room as I was accompanied by by 95 year old aunt who at her home is fully independent but has mobility problem and is registered blind. Saying that she did enjoy her stay with care and flexibility on our part.as did I.

March 2018
It was a perfect holiday cottage, very warm and cosy, with all amenities one could wish for.. Safe, with outdoor street lighting throughout the night, and gated yard to park the car. Located in town, next to the bus station and shops and lovely walks with my two little dogs in the nearby riverside park, through the old historic town of Morpeth. Located within easy distance of the Northumberland coast for frequent trips to the seaside and walks on the beach. Importantly for me, being on my own, I wasn't isolated. Thank you.

The cottage was adorable and so central . It is well worth a stay and Morpeth is a lovely town with all that you need -lovely shops, parks, places to eat and walks down by the river and in the bluebell woods. I would recommend the cottage and the location to anyone and we will be going back.
April 2014
I can't rate my stay highly enough, it was pretty much perfect. Everything you could possibly need was in the Cottage. It is perfectly situated in the centre of Morpeth within walking distance of everything. The service provided by Sykes Holiday Cottages and also the owners was second to none, friendly, efficient and simple. I highly recommend it and would stay there again without a second thought.

November 2013
This property was perfect for us, everything we needed was supplied.
September 2013
The cottage was first class, everything in it to make our stay very enjoyable. We had meals out every night at the local restaurants all within walking distance of the cottage. The bus depot and train station were also very handy
August 2013
Compact cottage with feeling of spaciousness due to bedrooms on both levels. Well fitted and easy to use kitchen. Off road parking very good for a town centre location - care needed on entry and exit with a larger car. Beds good but some bedroom furniture could be better. "Garden" mostly paved patio - plenty dog walking in nearby streets, parks and riverside walks. Sun trap to rear of property. Gates should prevent small children running out onto roads. Bathroom good but downstairs shower has step up and entry may be awkward for less able. Roof windows need closing when raining. Homely feeling in a busy country town of character which is a good centre for visiting the region. No major disadvantages.
Miss Waring
July 2013

December 2012
As we had no transport we needed somewhere near the train and bus station and shops near by and this cottage gave us everything we needed.Lovely warm place with log burner for those chilly evenings and though it was in the middle of town it was very quiet in the cottage. The lady that owned the cottage was so nice, nothing was too much trouble.
Mrs Streener

Great cottage in middle of town and so close to amenities. Makes a nice change being able to walk to the shops. Friendly owners and hassle free trip. Shame the parking spot took up most of the outside enclosed space but we were able to still sit outside.
September 2012

We stayed over the Christmas and New Year period and had a lovely time, it was a fantastic place to spend the holidays, there is no where else in Morpeth like it. The location was perfect for the town, within easy walking distance of pubs, clubs, shops and restaurants and with excellent transport links being situated right next to the bus station. Excellent facilities meant I was able to host a Christmas dinner with ease and comfort. We would recommend this cottage to anyone, very much looking forward to another stay.

A second visit to Dacre Cottage and yet again, a well placed, very comfortable home from home within good reach of all facilities. Good central point for touring Northumberland with a good restaurant, The Black Door, just a few minutes walk away.
December 2009
Comfortable cottage right in the centre of Morpeth and convenient for shopping, bus station, eating places and a lovely park to walk the dog. Nice woodburning stove/ fire in front room, only downside to cottage is third converted bedroom downstairs. We loved Morpeth and the friendliness of the people and everthing about this upmarket market town. Also well positioned for Newcastle and the coast.
December 2009
What a fabulous cottage in a brilliant location. Ideal base to get out an about in the North East, within easy reach of Alnwick and Newcastle. The cottage had everything you could wish for and more. A kitchen to die for with everything you could ever want in it, off road parking, close reach of all shops including Morrisons, bus station literally on your door step with great bus services to all around the area. Fabulous town centre, and you are in the very heart of it. I expected a small town but it really was much bigger than I expected and they are even building a brand new Marks and Spencer which will be open now. Very clean and tidy property and very spacious. Loved the loft bedrooms, but missed a shower up there. There is a bath but not even a hand shower which would have been useful. We have already booked again for next year and I can't wait to go again.
December 2009
As we visit Northumberland every year to see various relatives in Bedlington we found the location of this cottage, in the beautiful market town of Morpeth, ideal. The facilities were very good, particularly the downstairs bedroom and shower room for my elderly father. Only 2 slight niggles, the cottage could do with a more comfortable armchair as my father has difficulty in getting in and out of chairs. Also the TV is not very good, the reception is bad at times and we could not get all the freeview channels and my father likes to spend time in the cottage watching the TV as he did not feel like going out every day. We definately intend to book this cottage again next year.
Mr Thislie
November 2009

We were extremely impressed with the cottage. Its location was perfect for us, very central with regard to the fantastic Northumbrian countryside and the general location of the town. The owners of the cottage were very helpful, they gave us good information and directions, they also gave us the name of one of the best pubs my partner swears he has even be in! Best beer in Northumberland. In fact it was a perfect 4 days despite the weather, we all thoroughly enjoyed being in the cottage.
