Great cottage in a quiet location close to the beach and the market town of Ulverston

Curlew Cottage provides a great base for seeing the Lakes.. It’s comfortable, spacious and dog friendly - we were a group of 4 with 2 dogs and all agreed that this was a great cottage! There’s plenty to see and do locally; Ulverston is a must simply for all the food and drink places! If going up to Bowness, best advice from us would be to park at Lakeside and use the steamers up to Bowness - saves on trying to find somewhere to park nearer by and also gives a great opportunity to see the stunning views around Lake Windermere!

This was our second stay at Curlew Cottage and we loved it this time just as much as our first visit there.. The cottage is quite lovey and is situated a 5 minute walk down to the beach and.... Roys Ice Cream :-) The cottage has a patio with lovely views over to the sea on one side and country views on the other side. The sheep and cows come to visit every morning just over the wall. It really is in an idyllic location. The cottage itself has everything you need for your holiday. A home away from home if you like. Love the fact that there is a downstairs cloakroom as I'm not brilliant up and down stairs. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to cook up a great meal...if you want to. Lots of everything .. plates, bowls, cups, cutlery etc etc and was spotlessly clean as was the rest of the cottage. The owners even provide books, DVDs , games etc. The comfy beds are a pleasure to get tucked up into for a great nights sleep. All in all I have to say that Curlew Cottage is lovely. Clean, comfortable and with all you need to enjoy your holiday. I'm sure we'll be back there again soon.

Curlew Cottage was clean and comfortable with great views across Morecombe Bay.. The only problems we had were that the shower drained very slowly and Netflix didn't work, so we had quick showers and played a lot of cards!! Lovely being able to walk to the coast from the front door and get a quality ice-cream from Roy's Quality Ices, nice places to eat in Ulverston, would recommend The Mill. The Roman fort on Hardknott Pass is worth a visit and Wrynose Pass has stunning views if you can stomach the rather hair-raising drive. Curlew Cottage is a great base for the lakes and surrounding areas.

Had a lovely holiday stay at Curlew Cottage (6th-13th July).. Very well equipped in every respect. It was like a home from home, the aspect from the cottage is beautiful, and even better from the rear patio garden. Bardsea is a bit like going back in time, very relaxing, and quiet. The grand children loved going down to the seafront, and negotiating their way to the beach was great (it's really quite safe as long as you don't go out too far). Smashing beach cafe as well. Lakes are only a short drive. Had a great meal at the Bay Horse which is at the canal foot Ulverston. Cottage owner was very approachable if there were any queries. Rate the cottage as 9 1/2 out of 10. Only cribs (minor ones) No power point for shavers and toothbrushes. Internet was like waiting for paint to dry. Sun coming in through the rear french doors onto the diners was a bit annoying (maybe a couple of roller blinds would help). Other than that no complaints, would we rebook Curlew definate YES! Martin, Lyn, Matthew, Iona, & Euan. (Tilly & Olly the dogs)

February 2018
The owners of the cottage left us with lots of information about the local area, places to eat and where to walk.. All of this was accurate and made our stay very enjoyable. The cottage was clean and well maintained, but was also a home from home. The fact we had internet access was also a major plus for us, as we are working people and need to keep in touch. The views from the cottage are stunning and it is only a 2 minute walk to the beach, which we used daily for dog walks. Access to the whole of the Lake District is easy from this location, all major roads, no narrow country roads. Would highly recommend and we will definitely go back.

Lovely cottage which provided everything we needed for a great holiday: spacious kitchen with fantastic views, warm living space and cosy bedrooms.. Ideal for dogs as only 200m to the beach.A visit to Conishead Priory grounds is a must especially if you are a dog owner : acres of woodland which led down to a secure beach, then to finish of;a lovely cafe with delicious hot choc & homebakes. We will definitely return to this delightful cottage.

Curlew Cottage is a great accommodation, home from home in a beautiful setting. Huge choice of places to visit , activities to suit all within walking or reasonable driving distance. Found a great number of dog friendly pubs and chose to eat out for main meals daily. Found the standard high in all of these. Lucky with the weather too only one really rainy day.

The photos did not do justice to the views from the patio - so nice to see the ever changing tidal views. The beach was much nearer than we expected. This area is a lovely secret part of Cumbria and we found the locals very friendly.

This is a great place to stay for exploring the beautiful Lake district. Lovely views of the countryside. No complaints at all about the cottage but wouldn't recommend the area for young children. We were expecting a beach for our 2 year old grandson but unfortunately all along this coast is what I can only describe as mudflats. Totally unsuitable for children. Had we known this just myself and my husband would have visited.

March 2014
This is a fantastic base for access to Morecambe Bay and The Lakes, which suited us and our dogs perfectly. The property was extremely clean, well presented, warm and very comfortable. Having direct access to the beach, was a massive bonus. You do need to watch the tides carefully and observe where the locals walk their dogs, in order to be safe. Going on holiday with your dogs means you may have to compromise on some aspects but this property was comfortable for both us and the dogs.

We were very impressed with the cottage, the description on-line was very exact, infact the cottage was very well equipped and of good quality. The village was nice although one pub was closed and the other didn't accept dogs. The views were impressive with lots of places to visit and to go walking. Info supplied by the owners was plentiful and very helpful. Would go again if the opportunity arose

A true 'escape to the country'. Near enough to the Lake District, but not amongst the crowds. A quiet village with a very friendly pub with very good food literally 2 minutes walk away. 200 yards from the coast. Cottage presented to a very high standard. Beautiful scenery.

Curlew Cottage is in a very beautiful and tranquil part of the country. The views from the cottage garden were delightful. The cottage is in a lovely quiet village but also not far from other areas of interest. We will definitely be looking to book this again next year

We stayed here at Christmas and were made to feel very welcome with wine, christmas treats and a card. Curlew cottage itself is lovely. It is clean, cosy, comfortable and roomy enough for a family. There are wonderful views across Morecombe Bay and Bardsea is so quiet and peaceful it is like taking a step back in time to a much more relaxed rural life. If I could live here, I would!
Ms Campbell
January 2013
