We needed a good base location that was comfortable but affordable for a couple of days and this place was perfect for a short break.. Comfy house, serene location - and definitely worth walking up to the castle and church which are stunning. We didn't get a chance to go into the local shop next door but the owner still took time to talk to us. He was very welcoming, great for tips for places to go and they have done the store up beautifully! What a welcoming place.

The extra efforts made by the owner such as tea coffee milk and cake on arrival made a huge impact.. The cottage was in a delightful setting, the facilities were of a very high standard and the contact prior to the stay thorough. We would recommend staying at Cosy cottage.

The cottage was most welcoming and cosy.. Only thing we missed was a washing machine rather than a dishwasher. Swainby is a lovely village. We had a great welcome pack when we arrived which was most welcome. Would definitely recommend this cottage. Thank you had a great time. Helen and Gary

Cosy Cottage was delightful and welcomed our dog with a dog towel by the door, dog biscuits. Has sensible flooring for pets. Great location for walking the Cleveland Way and hearty meals available at the local Blacksmiths Arms. Strong WiFi a bonus.

On arrival at Cosy Cottage first impressions were a clean, quaint and welcoming place to spend a short break. Our impressions didn't change. It was nice to find coffee, tea and fresh milk had been provided and even a supply of dog treats for our pet. Towels and bedding were spotless, the cottage was warm with heat already switched on awaiting our arrival. The log fire had been prepared ready for lighting with a fair supply of logs. A scan through the visitors book revealed that a family from Scotland had stayed at the cottage on no fewer than 16 occasions. This is testimony in itself to the attraction of the accommodation. We accept that people have different tastes and expectations but ours were met and we would not put people off from staying here. We spent time touring the local area, visiting Whitby, Scarborough, Pickering, numerous small villages and walking through the countryside around Cod Beck reservoir and along the Cleveland Way. The locals were extremely friendly and dogs were welcomed most everywhere. A short break to the area gets a high recommendation from us and the cosy comforts of Cosy Cottage can add to that enjoyment.

Wow! What a warm welcome we received, a chilly morning but opened the door to lovely warm cottage throughout Tea and coffee supplies on the side, milk in the fridge and a container with homemade cake even a jar of doggy treats for our fur baby.. The Log burner was laid up ready to light, we did not need to use but did light on the one evening we stayed in. Full instructions on how to use everything in a folder and an interesting visitors book which was fun to read. People in the village were very friendly and we ate in both pubs and the Rusty Bike cafe. Our only complaint is that the bed is not very comfortable with a very soft mattress which did not suit me and also used to a king size but do understand in a cottage a normal double is correct for the room size. So not really a complaint just my preference..

The sofa is very old and needs replacing or reupholstering.. As there is no garden a washer/dryer would be more appropriate rather than the current dishwasher.

As on our previous visit, the cottage was clean, well-appointed and very comfortable.. Set in a picture postcard village, very well located for touring the North Yorkshire/Teesdale area.

Got to the the property key was available on arrival Which we were pleased about. It smelt vary musty we opened the windows. My daughter went upstairs to see what room was best for her to have. Was one double bedroom plus one singe room. As she was kneeling on the bed to open the small window the bed slats broke. On further inspection some of them were broken at the sides so we pushed back into the best place we could to hold mattress in place. My daughters leg was well brushed the next day . The single mattress was vary uncomfortable as springs are pushing through, the double bed creaked whenever you moved found the bed unsafe at times. The bathroom window is not frosted for privacy and shower cord so short we had to stand on a chair to operate it. Bathroom bedroom door handles don’t work, but to close the bathroom door it had a bolted lock you had to push door to keep it shut . Stair carpet was dirty but that could be from the black slate tiles. The sofa smelt vary badly vary uncomfortable to sit on. The kitchen was well equipped but freezer door is broken and bottom cupboards smelt vary damp. I would not recommend this cottage to friends or stay again as it’s not like in the pictures on the site. This cottage needs revamping downstairs . Stair carpet cleaned, better sofa to sit on No kitchen cooker fan as we could not open windows because of dust from People working outside kitchen window The village is lovely people are vary nice and would recommend the pubs to eat have a drink staff are lovely

We had a great relaxing time at the dog friendly cottage with plenty of walks.. There’s two pubs in the village - we preferred the Black Horse Inn serving really good food and big portions - the only down fall they are not dog friendly. It did’t spoil our weekend as we had great weather - who wants to sit inside when we have bright sunshine
