The town is on the north side of the Coquet River, which is famous for its salmon and trout, and is close to Northumberland's National Park. Rothbury has open tennis courts and a golf course as well as walking, riding, cycling and fishing to recommend it to visitors. Its specialist shops are also a significant attraction. There are several great Northumbrian houses nearby, including Wallington Hall and Alnwick Castle, with its stunning gardens, which are the work of the Duchess of Northumberland. Kielder Reservoir and Hadrian's Wall are both in the local area, and there is an abundance of wide sandy beaches to be discovered and enjoyed.

This property is ideally situated. Rothbury has everything you could want on the doorstep and all within easy walking distance. The property is also well sited for all the surrounding tourist attractions and the coast. The apartment itself has everything you could want and is welcoming as is the owner Alison.

The location was excellent for exploring Northumberland. Rothbury is a lovely town with a good selection of eating places and shops all within easy walking distance. The owners were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. They provided off road car parking for our two vehicles.

The apartment was so lovely to come back to after a long day and the owner was very helpful, would definitely recommend Coquet Retreat as a place to stay.

Good location, right in the centre of Rothbury. Apartment was large, airy and light with everything you could possibly need. Lots to do in the area, which is one of the most beautiful parts of the UK. We really had a great week.

The cottage was first class, best we have been in. The situation was brilliant, good butcher, baker, pub for drinks and food, and a beautiful little tea room all literally one minutes walk away. The owner was lovely too.

The accommodation was first class, one of the best we have ever stayed in. The town location is excellent for touring the beautiful surrounding areas, and there is enough to do within the town, and at the renowned nearby Cragside House. Definitely recommend both the accommodation and the location.

Spacious, comfortable apartment, pleasant courtyard area and breakfasts on the balcony. Everything is finished to the highest standard and then some. Rothbury itself makes a great base to stay with all amenities to hand and friendly local people. As for Northumbria...if you like stunning beaches and countryside, loads of wildlife, empty roads and fabulous, historical places to visit then it's the place to be.

It was everything we had hoped for, plus more! The apartment was a delight, so relaxing, comfortable, easy to live in, every comfort and convenience had been thought of and supplied. It was in a good setting, with village amenities a few minutes walk and many places to go to and visit within a short drive. It would be difficult to find fault, it was almost perfect in every way.

The village of Rothbury is lovely with all the amenities you would need. The apartment was beautifully furnished and well equipped, the owner was very welcoming as was the bottle of wine on our arrival. We would highly recommend the Indian restaurant at the end of Bridge Street. All in all we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and would definitely visit again.

The Coquet Retreat was a beautiful place to stay. The owner and her family made us very welcome and were available if we needed anything. The accommodation was great for relaxing after a long day seeing the surrounding area. There was everything you would need. The butchers over the road did some fabulous sausages and the cake that the owner had left for us on our arrival was really good - so good we had to get another! You can't go wrong with this place, if only the weather had been a little better.

Having just returned from our fourth stay and booking our fifth, its fair to say we're big fans of Coquet Retreat. The accommodation is contemporary and to a particularly high standard and very spacious. The kitchen is well kitted out and a joy to cook in. The sitting room comfortable light and airy. Both bedrooms are huge with an amazing amount of storage. The en-suite bathroom and family bathroom have great showers. Alison has certainly thought of everything including a generous welcome pack. In short.....fantastic.

This cottage is an excellent apartment style cottage with everything on the same floor. You have a staircase from the front door and therein is. We liked the en suite in addition to the bathroom. It is well equipped with a huge range cooker and the dining in the kitchen. We enjoyed our stay and the owner was very welcoming and there was a cake, milk and fruit waiting for us - a nice surprise. We would definitely stay here again. Rothbury has very friendly people and we were welcomed in the shops and pubs as if we were locals. The walking in the area was good, particularly the Simonside hills. All in all a great weeks break.

Spent a week in April at Coquet Retreat in Rothbury. This luxury apartment was ideal for us, it's well designed and has some nice additional touches, like a spa bath, jet shower and range cooker. Probably not best suited to someone who needs wheelchair access due to stairs and steps within the apartment. Rothbury is also a great Base for exploring Northumberland, being centrally located and having a number of good pubs, restaurants/cafes and food shops. It's also very close to Cragside house and gardens and half an hour from Alnwick with its castle and garden.

From the moment we arrived we knew we would love the place. Alison made us feel so welcome, and the flat was just beautiful. The rooms were all spacious and homely, bright and clean. The balcony and enclosed patio garden were lovely for sitting out and enjoying the sun - a real sun trap. The beds were comfortable, and the jet shower and spa bath were wonderful. I felt completely relaxed and refreshed after a week in the flat. The flat itself is situated perfectly, with just a short walk into Rothbury centre where the shops provide everything you need for a stay. A short walk in the other direction leads you to a picturesque walk along the river, where my 4 year old daughter was delighted to discover a small play area. This flat is perfect, and extremely well cared for. We will definitely be back!

We stayed for 5 nights at the end of April. The apartment is well located for exploring both Rothbury and the rest of Northumbria. It was clean and comfortable with more than enough space for all of us. Kitchen just right, lovely bathrooms and a comfortable lounge. Would stay here again.

We stayed at Coquet Retreat For one week but wish it had been longer. The cottage was everything we wanted and more. The furnishings and fittings were all first class and since the weather was good it was lovely to have breakfast and a drink on an evening on the balcony .The parking on the road outside was difficult but to us posed no problem as the owner allowed us to park in their yard just round corner off the road and this was preferable to us. The cottage was amazingly central with a good pub(queens head) butchers bakers and lovely little tea room(harleys) literally a couple of minutes walk away and many other shops and eating places within easy reach. With plenty of attractions around we had a really good holiday and will be back..Finally thank you Mrs Stewart you were brilliant and your cottage was probably the best we have ever stayed in.We will be back.

A very comfortable, luxurious apartment, in the centre of Rothbury, which is lovely to return to after walking in the beautiful and wild Cheviots. It is in the heart of the small town with all the convenience that offers, but also very quiet, so thoroughly recommended. Lovely bathroom with underfloor heating, and great kitchen.

stayed here for five nights with wife and young child. lovely flat. quite spacious. clean. Modern, with lots of nice touches which are quite luxurious and to be honest more in keeping with a 5-star hotel (private balcony with floor lights, private patio with bench swing, fancy multidirectional shower in the en-suite, jacuzzi bath...). Very friendly welcome, friendly personal service from the owners, and a personalised "welcome pack" there on our arrival including a picture book for our child. It is situated very conveniently in Rothbury - about 2 minutes from the co-op for supplies, and a minute from the river which is picturesque and great for walks. Next to the main road but this is a small town and there was no problem with traffic noise. On-street parking though this was easily found within 10 metres of the front door, and owners also offered use of parking nearby if need be. Rothbury in itself seems lovely, and conveniently placed for visiting a variety of attractions in the north east. Also a great place to explore on its own merits. We contacted the owners directly following a review of their own website as well as a general holiday rentals website.

We had a wonderful time at Coquet Retreat. The accommodation is really lovely. Very clean, luxurious and spacious. It has lovely touches like fairy lights embedded in the hallway floor and my children loved the swing chair outside in the courtyard. The owners are very friendly and make you feel most welcome - we were very appreciative of the cake, cookies, milk and bowlful of fruit that awaited us on arrival! Rothbury is a very nice market town with the fabulous Cragside National Trust property on its doorstop. It has a Co-op, excellent butchers and two bakeries. We ate out at 'Italia Plus' one evening and had lunch at 'The Congregational Art Gallery' - both I would recommend. Would highly recommend Coquet Retreat if planning a holiday in Northumberland.

We enjoyed our stay here and would stay again. It's spacious and comfortable. The owner lives around the corner and was very helpful. Great location for walking in the Cheviots and visiting tourist spots. Only two points where it wasn't so good, the sofas in the lounge have seen better days and had become rather lumpy & hard. The flat had massive space throughout except for the one place where you all gather to eat - the kitchen diner was rather small, 4 adults would find it a squeeze and some of the kitchen equipment was getting a bit tired. Don't want to let these points detract from an otherwise very good apartment.

Coquet Retreat is a very well equipped apartment in the centre of Rothbury at the heart of beautiful countryside, within striking distance of the fabulous Northumberland coast and surrounded by interesting places to visit.. Highly recommended.

September 2018
This was our second stay in this lovely cosy flat.. We love the location, the space, the comfortable, light rooms and the spa bath! My one request would be some thicker curtains to block the car lights, as the flat is on a main road through the town.

August 2018
A minor comment after a wonderful holiday and enjoyment of the property: Some instructions on how to use the en-suite shower would be useful, as it was very much trial and error with some wet floor as a result.. Lovely area to visit with some great places to visit: Gragside, Wallington Hall, Chillingham Castle (post Castle visit - view the Most Haunted video of their visit to this castle), Bamburgh Castle, coastal drive south from Bamburgh to Crastor. Recommended places to eat: The Queen's Head (in Rothbury), 3 Wheat Heads Inn (in nearby Thropton). The Turks Head (Rothbury - more a basic pub type meal, cheaper, but nicely prepared). Great take out fish & chips at Rorhbury Fish & Chip shop. Great short easy walk from Rothbury along the river walk east toward the old mill, go east along the Morpeth road for about 20 yards, then take a road marked private. At the end of this road take a path to the Cragside loop road near the Powerhouse. You can walk, or take the free red shuttle bus, to the house from here.

July 2018
Great location easy to get to various attractions particularly Cragside just down the road.. Could spend days there exploring the footpaths. Everybody very friendly and helpful. Great bakery across the road for purchasing your packed lunch in the morning. We were lucky with fantastic weather which made it even better. Will definitely go to Northumberland again so much to see. Loved Barter Books in Alnwick. Shame we couldn't spend longer there. Very good tea room. Alnwick gardens fabulous but get there early doors if you want a good photo of the cascade without hoards of people in the way! Nice easy parking over the road for £2 for the whole day.

The flat was beautifully furnished, warm and cosy.. High quality appliances. It's centrally situated so easy access to shops and places to eat. Lovely to have a car parking spot near owner's home. Welcome pack includes wine fruit and cakes, as well as tea coffee etc. A lovely thought. We will definitely consider returning at some time in the future. Five stars!
