Just back from another wonderfully relaxing week at Cliff Top cottage. The peace and tranquility, abundance of wildlife and stunning views make for as near to the perfect break as you could wish for. The cottage was as clean, comfortable and cosy as we found it last time and we definitely intend to return. Nirvana on the north east coast!!!

Just had the most enjoyable week at Cliff Top cottage. Lovely cosy feel to it, everything provided for a week away. The views from there and the free roaming wildlife were a treat from living in a town. We have definitely marked this up as a "must return to" in the diary. Full marks to the owners. David and Shirley (Harrogate).

Our stay at Cliff Top Cottage was the worst I have ever had, and I stay at a lot of cottages as a professional UK landscape photographer. The noise from building work taking place on the adjoining roof, above our bedrooms, and around our chimney throughout our stay (which is probably still ongoing) was horrendous, and the advertised Wifi has been offline for weeks, if not months, with the owner having no obvious inclination to repair it. Just blames TalkTalk and storms. As somebody on a working holiday who returned to the property every day to work, and take a nap between sunrises and sunsets the property was totally unsuitable for our needs. The inside of the cottage was just about passable (dated, not the cleanest, poor TV, crockery etc that looked like it had been purchased a piece at a time at a jumble sale, no draining board, and we all struggled to sleep in the beds even at night when it had gone quiet), as was the lane that leads to the cottages which was full of pot holes. We were just about able to slalom the car around them touching the hedges at times, but cars with lower ride heights are likely to struggle. The patio and parking area next to the cottage was unusable during the day, thanks to the building work (falling slates etc). The owner who was misleading and uncooperative from the off has refused to compensate us despite obvious failings, and the money we had to spend to get around them, and the booking agent just hid behind clauses in their small print. So obviously we are not going to be returning to this property or any of their others in the future.

We just spent a lovely week here at the cottage with our dog. It is a really nice situation (yes the access is bumpy but drive slowly!) with easy access to the clifftop for my daily run with the dog. The cottage was comfy and cleaned to a high standard. The appliances in the kitchen were all modern and new, Straightforward instructions as to water heating etc. The owners supplied essential items eg condiments, tea and coffee and the spice rack was well stocked. The smart TV's passed on some time as the weather was very hot (for the dog) so we spent some of the day relaxing inside. The bathroom is nice with a big shower and a bath. Saltburn itself is a lovely place- we have visited often and my partner lived here as a child. Some very nice eateries. I am sure we will be back!

We really had a great holiday at this brilliantly located cosy cottage.. The beds were very comfortable and the heating excellent . We hardly had to use our car due to everything being in easy reach. The walking straight from the cottage was superb and the garden was sheltered and perfect for a peaceful relax in the sun. The only thing we felt needed attention to improve our time at the cottage were the windows ( two of them could not be opened and the the lovely views were obscured by the glazing being wet inside the units ). Would love to return sometime

Marvellous views, walks, eateries, beaches to visit, watched seals steal fish from the anglers hooks off Saltburn pier and playing off the cliffs opposite the cottage.. Highly recommend

Cliff top cottage was in the most amazing location - beautiful veiws and very clean well equipped and welcoming - i was disappointed that there was no direct access to the garden as this was not made clear on the booking site - saltburn itself is a gem of a place - the beach is so incredibly clean and the water was crystal clear - very family and dog friendly and highly recommended

The cottage is in a good location however it did feel a little unloved.. The door handle was wrapped up in tape, the furniture in the lounge is past it’s best and the blind in the master bedroom was simply a bit of cloth hung over a rod. You advertise the availability of the use of a summerhouse but to be honest the summer house didn’t look safe, for a start one of the glass panes is hanging out and the floor didn’t look safe enough to walk on. The garden is listed as being a wildlife garden which roughly translated means an overgrown mess. Disappointed with the cottage and we were glad we were only staying for 3 nights. This cottage definitely needs some time and money spending on it.

Both cottage and area were excellent.. Although the weather was far from brilliant, we still found plenty to do. We intend to try and go back again next year and hope for a heat wave! A good place to take your dog as well, with good walks straight from the door step.

Lovely, warm and inviting holiday cottage, very cosy with amazing views.. The drive down to the cottage is not for the faint hearted if you you don’t like single track remote driving but the reward are the views. The mattress in the smaller bedroom is quite lumpy/springy and needs replacing and the steep stairs are not suitable for anybody with a mobility issue. Other than that it’s a great, cosy and inviting cottage.

We honestly couldn't recommend this place highly enough.. It was superb, top of a cliff with gorgeous views all round including of the sea. Up a lane and nice and secluded. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay and a lovely private garden. Short (albeit steep) trek into town and the beach. Can't wait to go back and if you have a dog they'll think their in heaven.

Have been to the cottage before and couldn't wait to get back there.. The only reason that it did not exceed my expectations is because I knew where I was going and what it was like. Lovely cottage, fantastic location and lovely area. Will be going back again.

Clifftop Cottage is in a wonderful location.. It has direct access to the Cleveland Way over the cliff path. The views of the sunset (on the East coast!) over the Tees Estuary were magical. If you are reasonably fit, it is easy to holiday here without a car. public transport is good and there is no shortage of places to eat, but it is a hilly walk for provisions! I know the area well, but still didn't have time to cover all the places to I'd like to walk and visit. I will come again. The house was comfortable and homely and had everything required except a hairdryer and I'd like to have found milk in the fridge on arrival. The open fire and wood provided looked enticing and would have been very cosy, but due to good weather, we didn't get to try it! The cottage owner was very helpful regarding a temporary problem with the acces road.

We cannot understand the tone of the previous two reviews. 1. The access by a track is perfectly possible to negotiate with a small car (ours is a Ford Fiesta) Of course you need to go slowly and carefully, as well as access for farm and cottages it is also a footpath, bridleway and cycle track - part of Cycle Route 1. 2. Parking - no problem, either beside the house or on the concrete area in the garden. 3. The garden is a wildlife garden so don't expect it to look like a suburban lawn and garden. We enjoyed the wild flowers, birds and insects that frequent the garden. 4. The cottage was clean to a high standard. We enjoyed the cottagey feel and do not expect everything to match. The doors are the original doors, but it is still cosy, and the heating is there at the flick of a switch. Give it half an hour and you're warm as toast! It's not a palace, just a modest holiday cottage which we found delightful. Everything we expected was there and we had no need to go out and buy anything that we considered should have been provided. 5. The walk into town. Yes you need to be fairly fit, but the name 'Cliff Top Cottage' gives you a clue. I am 71 years old and it took me just 20 minutes to walk down the cliff path - or steps - and up the steps into town. The bus service is brilliant and stops at the bottom of the path, near the Ship Inn, or at the end of the lane if you want to avoid going up or down hill. Even my husband, currently with a bad ankle injury, managed the walk into town - though it took him a bit longer! (We only used the bus when we had shopping to carry back or were going further afield to enjoy the walk back along the cliffs.) 6. Local walks along the cliff, to Staithes or beyond, or north along he beach to Redcar are stunning. The cottage is situated virtually on the Cleveland Way National Path. 7. The town is a Victorian gem.

On a positive note this end terrace house/cottage has lovely views of the surrounding countryside and is in a very peaceful and quiet location. You will need to be fit to stay here as both paths down to the beach and town are very steep. If going by car, be aware that the track leading to the property is very uneven and narrow and half a mile long. I was worried about bottoming the car in some areas of the road due to the wear on the track and a 4 wheel drive would be better. You will have to reverse for quite a distance in order to let any oncoming vehicles past too as there are few passing places and it is only a cars width. The large double bed was comfy, the sheets and supplied linen were clean. The TV is new and so is the cooker, freezer, fridge and washer. The bathroom is newish and apart from poor water pressure in the shower was adequate with plenty of available hot water. The garden is a wildlife friendly garden and I quite liked it, the grass path is kept short and runs around the garden. The pots and pans look newish and there is plenty of cutlery etc. Unfortunately the whole experience was let down by the poor level of general cleanliness and poor shoddy fixtures and fittings. On arrival the kitchen tables wooden top felt sticky to the touch. We could not find any place matts or table cloths. We eventually bought a table cloth in town. The sink has no draining board. The door knobs throughout the property felt that they will come off at any moment and are ill fitting and loose. The skirting boards, especially on the staircase needend a good wipe down and areas of the bathroom floor were dirty around the sink. Heaven help anyone sleeping in the small bedroom as the wind whistled through the badly fitted window and there was a 5mm crack running through the door panel. The lounge in particular is in desperate need of the services of a decorator, I have never seen such shoddy painting and add to this the uncomfortable seating and non matching furnishings I found sitting in the lounge both depressing and uncomfortable. I would certainly not recommend the cottage and when we saw the bad weather forecast we decided to come home after 5 days as we could not entertain the thought of another two days rained in there.

Great location for visiting Saltburn; very comfortable cottage- more spacious than we'd expected, clean and warm.. The owners left us a generous wood supply for the fire and the kitchen is well supplied. Good choice with the dog and we intend to return.
