Fantastic, well equipped home in rural Cumbria.. It felt like a home from home with everything needed for a relaxing stay. Comfortable beds, plenty of hot water and not too far to travel for days out.

We have just had a wonderful week with all the family at Chimney Gill.. It is a wonderful house for a large group. We had a very warm welcome from Graham, and beautiful Christmas decorations and a very generous welcome pack.
The house is spacious, warm and very well equipped.
The children loved a visit to the barns - thank you Graham!

Loved this cottage. Clean, spacious, nicely decorated and furnished. Stayed for a weekend with 10 other women. Very relaxing especially with the free use of the Spa at North Lakes Hotel. Lovely welcome pack. Highly recommend.

We stayed 2 nights for a friends' hen party and couldn't have picked a better place to stay! The house was well laid out with plenty of space for everyone, the bedrooms spacious and plenty of space for our 4 cars (could probably have got at least 1 more car in).
We hired a private chef who had no complaints about the kitchen, although we weren't sure on how to use the oven at first!
The owners are very friendly, it's a working farm so there seemed to always be someone around on site. It was also lovely to wake up to the sound of sheep every morning!

As we have used Sykes on several occasions we knew exactly what (high level) service to expect and, yet again, were not disappointed..

February 2019
The farm is really lovely, and bigger than it looked on the Sykescottages photos.. Everything we needed was there, there were 12 of us staying and its is fully equipped for 12. It was a cold week in February when we went, the farm is centrally heated and lovely and toasty warm. The pretty villages of Hesket Newmarket and Caldbeck are near by and worth a visit. We loved the Old Crown Inn pub and Brewery in Hesket. The farm is roughly half way between Penrith and Carlisle which was convenient for people arriving and leaving by train and there are good supermarkets in Penrith.

We have just returned from a weekend break in this cottage. We were looking for somewhere to stay around the north lakes area and found the cottage. Whilst it is on a working farm, this makes absolutely no difference at all and the children loved seeing the sheep on a morning. The cottage is an extremely high standard throughout. Large comfy beds in all rooms and modern bathrooms. We were a family of ten (6 adults four children) and there was ample space for everyone. Especially loved the long table so we could all dine together. On arrival, we were received a wonderful welcome basket, fresh bread, eggs, bacon, milk and wine! - a lovely gesture.
The living area has a lovely wood burner for an evening, and there is a little ‘snug’ play area for the children.
The location was great for a short drive to Ullswater. Would highly recommend for a family gathering and would stay again.

Beautiful cottage with everything you need in a rural setting.. We were welcomed with fairy lights outside and a beautiful tree and decorations inside. Woke up to see the sunrising across the fields where the sheep were waiting patiently for the farmer to come and feed them. Perfect!

We picked this cottage for a gathering of friends from around the UK.. It is well located to the Lakes, just 30mins to Keswick and very easy to get to from the M6 and nobody had any issues finding the cottage. On arrival there was a lovely basket with things to get use settled in and milk, bacon and bread so we could get a cup of tea and a bacon sandwich. The cottage was spotless and well equipped for a group of people. Everybody said how comfy the beds were and there was enough space for everybody. The host family was amazing and catered for our every need, even when we left the key with the other half of the group they went out of their way to get another one for us. A definite plus was the access to the spa which was a lovely treat. In conclusion I would highly recommend this cottage and it was a pleasure to stay there. Thank you

Doesn't specify right on a working farm, which may have been an overlook on my part.. However, the cottage was beautiful. We arrived to a lovely welcome package and a clean, warm cottage. Towels were laid out on the bed and everything felt so cosy and warming.
The stay was quiet, in a great location and such a wonderful way to spend a birthday. Everyone we passed on the farm was lovely and helpful.
This place is perfect for a group of friends, a family or even a romantic trip away. I cannot fault anything.

This was our first getaway holiday for three families with kids ranging from 2 to teens and this lodge was more than adequate to accommodate all of us.. Tracey and her family were helpful with setting up beds for the little ones and the welcome pack was very generous, kids especially liked the local sourced bacon! The lodge was on a working farm so kids like seeing the baby lambs as it was Spring and the staff were more than glad to tell us about lambing season, although the weather didn't think so but held out for majority of our stay
The property looked recently refurbished with tasteful contemporary colour schemes and very well kept with a log fire and central heating that was up to the task on the chilly nights. Everything from the room décor and bedding was fresh and served our needs well and space for kids to kick a ball around. Location was off a country road with good access to north lakes for days out but return to a cosy warm house. We made use of the complimentary passes to the local spa and baths at North Lakes hotel in Penrith, which the kids liked as an indoor activity on an evening and the adults relaxed in the sauna and Jacuzzi; Penrith was also handy for that shopping and for quick bites. Chimney Gill was a pleasant surprise when we first entered due to its size of rooms, cleanliness and facilities there with enough plates and crockery in the kitchen as well as a great range oven making nights in easy to feed everyone
Plenty to do around this area weather dependant and we have some fantastic memories of our time there and highly recommend Chimney Gill

My wife booked this large cottage for our Christmas holiday 22 to 29 Dec 17, with our extended family and grandchildren. Son and daughters and respective spouses/partners came from North and South (We live near Aberdeen).
I spent a good time looking through the excellent website to make sure we understood the facilities and location. It all was clearly described and looked ideal.
When we arrived it was a real delight to find that the house and facilites were even better than described. There was one of the best welcome packs we have ever arrived to, and there were fresh red roses on the table. The heating system was available on demand at all times and there was a big box outside the kitchen with a very good supply of dry logs for the woodburning stove. Much appreciated!
It was really heart-warming to arrive in the evening after a 6 hour drive in the dark and find that the owners had switched on a beautiful array of Christmas lights around the cottage. My 2 y/o grandchildren when they arrived were wide-eyed!
I think we may do the same thing again next Christmas if I can get a booking.

Chimney Gill was just the perfect place to stay with our far-flung family.. There was plenty of space for everyone to sit, eat and relax, and the bedrooms were spacious and well appointed. We have been in some lovely cottages in the past but this house exceeded all of them and we would very much like to repeat the experience. We didn't meet Tracey but Joyce, her mother-in-law, was on hand to provide any help. She even sent on some money that we left behind. We couldn't have asked for better and look forward to seeing everyone again in the very near future.

Wow. The web site doesn't do justice to this property.. It was very spacious and it catered for all of our needs. The welcome pack was very generous. There was even a vase of fresh roses. Would definitely recommend it for all ages. We were aged 20 months to 83 and we had a wonderful stay.

August 2017
We were very pleased with everything from the generous welcome pack to the friendly and helpful owners.. The use of the pool was fantastic for the rainy day and both children and their accompanying adults enjoyed themselves. The garden was a bonus and the layout of the house and size of the rooms really worked for our family group with the snug becoming a playroom for the children. The location allowed us to explore the lakes easily but was peaceful. I would definitely recommend this house to friends wanting a large property to stay in.

July 2017
We were delighted with the cottage, it was very clean and comfortable, with a well equipped kitchen (except for a masher).. The breakfast pack was a wonderful surprise. The cottage was easy to get to, in a quiet location on a working farm. Two minor issues were dealt immediately without any fuss. I wouldn't hesitate to book the cottage again, the children have all asked to visit again.

July 2017
Chimney Gill suited our family group extremely well in terms of space, comfort, layout of rooms, cleanliness, facilities and equipment.. The beds were clean and comfortable and there were more than enough fluffy white towels and constant hot water for 9 adults and 4 children. A travel cot was provided for the youngest child. The kitchen was well equipped and the garden was a great space for our young grandchildren to run around and play in. The owners were friendly and approachable and live nearby, though not on site. They supplied a very generous welcome pack consisting of milk, fresh eggs, bacon, bread, cereals, jams, tea and coffee plus a couple of bottles of wine and some fresh flowers in a vase. All much appreciated. We were fortunate in having some good weather and had a barbecue one evening. The only suggestion we would have for the owners is to perhaps consider having some hooks in the bedrooms and bathrooms for hanging up clothes and/or towels, otherwise It was pretty much perfect. The location was great as it was not too far for family members to drive from Edinburgh and Newcastle as it is not far off the M6. This converted farmhouse sits in pretty countryside and has no neighbours close by to worry about noise levels with young children and it's location allows easy access to the Northern Lake District and the National Park. All in all we had a great week and can recommend Chimney Gill as a comfortable holiday house.

Everything was excellent. The house and furnishings were comfortable, coordinated and spotless and the welcome was exceptional. The central heating was so good we didn't bother with the fire. welcome pack was very generous and everything else one could need was available. The wifi was as good as I am used to in London despite the house being relatively isolated. Staying at lambing time was perfect and every was very helpful in telling us how the farm worked.

We stayed here for a birthday and Mother's Day. The layout of the ground floor (a big L shape) is perfect for social family life. Nice sized bedrooms with massive beds, with 2/3 rooms have good views. Kitchen is well equipped and real fire very welcome. The owner/farmer let us in to see the young lambs and was friendly throughout. No complaints and an excellent stay.

Chimney Gill is a nicely-equipped, cosy cottage which has been well maintained by our welcoming hosts Tracey and Graham (with help from Joyce). Considering that the property is situated on a working farm near a road that feeds the M6 it is a blissfully quiet location. There is plenty of room for large family gatherings and the quality of the decor is excellent. Upon arrival we were thoughtfully provided with a generous Welcome Pack which was well received. The bulk of our provisions for the week were delivered to the door by ASDA - it takes all the hassle out of settling in! We found the additional fridge and freezer in the connecting outhouse to be very handy for bulk food and milk overflow at the beginning of our stay. Everyone in our group had a great time and didn't want to return home which is always the sign of an excellent holiday. Thank you Tracey, Graham and Joyce.

Set on a working farm on n e edge of Lake District national park. Accessible by good roads, and not tortuous like some lakes single trackers. We were 13- 6 adults and 7 grandkids and managed to fit in fairly easily. Nicely laid out and freshly decorated. Good solid working fittings and everything we needed really. Family were all very welcoming but not intrusive. Were happy to show us the lambs and chat about the farm. Welcome pack now becoming standard at good self catering these days but a kind touch nonetheless. We all enjoyed ourselves, the kids maybe a bit too much! They'd have stayed in the house all day if it were up to them.

Chimney Gill is a wonderful place to stay and easily accommodates twelve. We had six adults and six children and never felt like we were in each others way when cooking or relaxing. All the amenities and the games that are there even gave us something to do on a rainy day and the use of the spa in
Penrith is fantastic for such days too. We would all heartily recommend. The garden gave us room to have a games of rounders and cricket. The children made good use of the garden at the end of every day. Overall it is a great place to stay with the lakes in easy access.

It really was a lovely cottage with excellent facilities. It was a family break for 12 of us including 3 pre school children and a baby and everything you would need was catered for. The children loved the little fenced in garden which was safe for them to play in, they especially loved looking at the animals and sitting on the farmers tractor. A real family home from home.

The friendliness of the owners was lovely and added to the charm of the holiday cottage. The farmer offered to show us round his farm which the children looked forward to all week and was brilliant! Chimney Gill was a lovely base for day trips and it was always a joy to come back to. We had two couples with six children between 18 months and eleven years and everyone loved the space in the house which had such an unexpectedly high standard of interior design.

This house is perfect for a family or group get-together. It has plenty of living space with a large table and well-equipped kitchen. The decor is stylish and the atmosphere comfortable. Bathrooms and kitchen are immaculate and the bedlinen crisp and towels fluffy. We were given a substantial welcome pack with tea, eggs, jam, milk etc. The location is quiet, on a beautiful working farm, but not far from the main road. The owners were there to meet us and were very welcoming and friendly. To top it all, a pet lamb wandered into our garden each day to eat the grass.

We stayed at Chimney Gill for a long weekend to celebrate a 70th birthday. Six adults and four kids (aged 10 months to 8 years). The house is just beautiful decorated to a very high standard. The open plan living space suited a big family gathering wonderfully, with the added den room off the side for kids to watch Dvd's. All bathrooms and bedrooms are very spacious and immaculate.
The owner couldn't have been more helpful. The most generous welcome basket met us on arrival. And the access given to the farm to the kids made their weekend.
We had a superb weekend and would heartily recommend a visit to others.

This cottage had it all for us. We were two American families coming to explore the Lakes District for the first time and the accommodations were above and beyond what we expected/hoped for. The cottage was newly renovated and outfitted perfectly. The bathrooms were luxurious, the beds perfectly comfortable, and the furnishings had everything we could think of .... and more (games, videos, all cutlery to make every breakfast/dinner at home).
The hosts were also incredibly kind and gracious. They took the time to let us explore their farm as our kids were incredibly interested in learning more. All around we had a lovely vacation and much of it because our home base was such an enjoyable place to return to at the end of a day. Many thanks for the great visit. We hope to return some day.
