Cherry Tree Cottage Self-Catering

Holiday home
Cherry Tree Cottage is a traditional terraced cottage in the centre of Aysgarth and can sleep two people in one king-size double bedroom. There is also a bathroom, a kitchen with dining area and a sitting room with an open fire. Outside there is roadside parking for one car, an enclosed rear garden with furniture and a separate sitting area to the front. Cherry Tree Cottage is a great base for those looking to explore this fascinating area, with Hawes and Bainbridge just a short drive and some of the most beautiful scenery in the Dales right on the doorstep.

Situated in excellent walking country is the idyllic Wensleydale village of Aysgarth, close to the well-known Aysgarth Falls and impressive Bolton Castle - a structure which dates back to 1379. For over 200 years, people have been flocking to see the beautiful falls - including Ruskin, Turner and Wordsworth. However, during the 19th Century, Aysgarth became a staging post for travellers to make their way down to view the falls from the bridge. In more recent years, the Upper Falls were used in the film 'Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves.' The ancient art of coppicing is still carried out in nearby Freeholder's Wood and visitors can find hazel, ash and wild cherry trees amongst others. Carpeted in wildflowers in spring, this stunning woodland is home to over one 120 species. Nearby, Wensleydale and Swaledale provide a range of activities and amenities and are well worth visiting.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

When we arrived I noted that the place had been occupied the week before so with the current situation that the place would have been deep cleaned only to find a layer of dust on one of the counter tops.. When I went to use the hoover it was totally blocked and required a full strip down and clean. Same for the fire. Don’t mind doing it but we would have expected a basic standard to be met Bed - way too soft for us. It would be really useful to have a bed firmness rating to assist in the choice of booking. If we had known of the softness this would not have been booked. It was our biggest issue Location was great but the photos made us think there was an uninterrupted view across the valley. Not so. There has been buildings erected since the photo was taken. As for building works. The work next door showered the garden with material which needed clearing up. Not good for feet or paws All in all not the best break we have had

Overall, good holiday cottage.. Happy to score it 8 out of 10. Lounge smaller than appears on photo but not tiny! Rear garden could be made tidier with nicer furniture ! Great views!

A delightful cottage in a beautiful location.. We enjoyed lots of lovely walks. The cottage itself was spotless, and really comfortable. We particularly liked the coffee machine, the open fire and the luxurious bathroom. The enclosed garden was ideal for us with our dog.

We had a lovely stay in this cottage. It is perfectly sized for 2 people with a generous bathroom and well stocked kitchen. The lounge has a comfy sofa and large tv/dvd player and open fire. The location is fabulous. We walked from the cottage following different circular walks each day, often involving a pub stop. The village has a well stocked garage, 2 pubs and 2 cafes as well as the beautiful Falls. We took our dog and the house was well equipped for this with an enclosed garden and front gate. Beware, the stairs are very steep (as advertised). There is no tumble dryer. We would stay again. Thank you.

The only thing wrong was the smell of wet dog the smell coming from the sofa we tried fabreeze which helped but did not stop the smell altogether I think they should change the sofa and stop letting people with dogs let there pets on the furniture that was the only thing which put a little damperner on a very nice cottage

Excellent location for dog owners and walkers.. Comfortable and cost place to stay.
April 2018
A beautiful little cottage with some amazing views. As we walked into the cottage we were grateful to note the heating had been switched one prior to our arrival, the television was on standby and there was a variety of essentials provided such as; kitchen roll, hand washes, dish soap and enough milk for a few brews each. No bathroom products were included but fortunately we had taken our own. Our 2 dogs were able to stay with us too which was a bonus, although, despite being surrounded by fields we had to walk a fair few miles before finding somewhere to let them have a good run due to the lambing season. The large, comfy sofa was a god send when arriving back from a day of walking, although the steep stairs weren't so enjoyable haha! Thank you for a lovely stay

We have stayed at the cottage before but it's always been in the summer.. The weather was very cold and we found the heating very inadequate especially in the huge bathroom having a shower was a nightmare as the water also went from hot to cold !! I also had to clear a lot of dog mess from the garden which wasn't pleasant I appreciate there was snow but I always clear up from my dog straight away. Other than that we enjoyed our holiday lovely comfy bed. Would we stay again? In the summer perhaps but never again this time of year( March) .

I have only positive things to say about my stay in Cherry Tree Cottage, it’s a lovely, quaint little place and clean and comfy..

Great Cottage the only problem with it was it took a long time to get it warm, But overall that's a minor problem unless your in the depths of winter.. All in all another great cottage in a wonderful location and if visited outside of the Winter months would probably be fantastic. Just a final word about the owner, we had to contact him on arrival as there was no water, Mark got on to the issue right away and even proposed moving us to a local Hotel if the problem couldn't be resolved (even with our Dog) in the end the water was back on withing the hour of us arriving (farmer had a leak and had to turn it off in the street).

The cottages was well-equipped, cosy and in a good location for anyone who enjoys walking.. The enclosed rear garden was great for our dog and the Falls are half a mile down the road with Settle and Dales villages, such as Hawes, are within a short driving distance. The only thing I would say is that the stairs were very steep, we were fine but anyone with mobility issues could possibly struggle.

It was dog friendly with plenty of hot water at all times. It was wonderfully warm in the bedroom and bathroom, and the bed was very comfortable. There were walks from the door, but it was cosy and comfortable to stay in during day as it rained every single day of the week!
