We had a brilliant week at Chequer Stable.. Anthea and Peter were so friendly and welcoming but unobtrusive. The cottage itself is very cosy, clean and comfortable. The llamas, geese and chickens were a delight to spend time with! We’ll definitely be coming back in the future. I can’t rate the cottage or hosts highly enough!

My daughter didn't want to leave after our 2 night stay!!! The owner was very friendly & welcoming & took my daughter to meet & feed the animals which she absolutely loved!!! Could not reccomend this place enough & will definitely be back!!!

Absolutely perfect, beautiful welcoming bottle of wine and yummy biscuits.. Milk in the fridge. Clean, tidy and everything you need. The owners are so lovely, friendly and welcoming. We had a lovely 4 night stay. We didn’t go out much as we just needed some time to chill out and that’s what we did! I could have sat and watched the chickens, geese and llamas all day. Perfect and highly recommend

Had a lovely few days just total relaxation.. Anthea & Peter are the perfect hosts, on hand when needed. The Stable was spotlessly clean, well catered for in terms of kitchen facilities, excellent shower and comfortable bed. The Llamas, geese & hens were a joy to watch throughout our 4 days. Thank you both for a lovely break.

A beautiful countryside retreat.. The cottage is lovely - really modern but also a nice, cosy rustic feel too. Everything was really clean and there’s lots of utensils etc to use for cooking, as well as board games and dvds. It was lovely to greet the llamas every morning! We spoke with Anthea and she was really kind and accommodating, making us feel very welcome and giving us tips on what to do and see. We drove into the Peak District which didn’t take long, and the views are really beautiful. A perfect getaway :)

Stayed here during half term, the accommodation is exactly as described. There was a nice bottle of red wine & cookies as a welcome gift & also milk, tea coffee, sugar etc to start you off. Peter & Anthea were very friendly & helpful, Anthea also took our Grandaughter & showed Her around the Holding & let Her feed some of the animals, especially the Llamas which She loved. Thank you.

Anthea and Peter are the loveliest people, and they have put so much time and love into Chequer Stable.. The accommodation is beautiful, with high quality facilities and the under floor heating was a great feature! The animals were definitely a highlight - the Alpacas are amazing and we sat and watched them for hours. Would definitely recommend Chequer Stable to anybody who wants a well located getaway for a few days!

Everything was as expected facility wise but the cockrels were very noisy from about 10.. 30 at night. Also the road is very busy and a bit annoying.

A lovely little gem of a place with just enough space for two. The cottage is well designed and well equipped - the pictures show it well. It is beside the owner's house on a smallholding with lamas, chickens, ducks, geese and a friendly cat. The animals were lovely to watch and we got used to the cockerels crowing just before dawn! It was very warm when we stayed and the outside space was appreciated to sit for breakfast. The dormer windows upstairs let the heat out and kept the place feeling airy. I would love to visit at a cooler time of year to try out the wood burning stove. The only slight downside was being on the main road (A50): hearing traffic, which got quite busy in rush hour and you do need to be very careful in the car pulling out on to the road. There is plenty of room to park one car, and would be enough for two. We found lots to do in the area - exploring the Peak District, Chester and Liverpool. Recommended.

A really outstanding nice little cottage, near to Peak District as well as to small tiny towns and also big ( Liverpool, Manchester).. The cottage is kept very clean with very good equipment. Anthea and Peter Hughes are so friendly and helpful for all things, I never experienced that in this way in making holidays in Britain since 1970 ( 30 times or more ).

We absolutely loved this beautifully converted little gem, very cosy and warm.. The owners have thought of everything you may need and the animals are a welcome source of entertainment. The Cockerells only disturbed our sleep on the first night and the road noise didn't bother us at all. It was really easy to find and we will definitely be back. We didn't get chance to meet Peter but Anthea is a lovely, friendly lady. It's no wonder this place is such a success.

Clean, quiet, self contained, warm and cozy. On a busy road but I never noticed the traffic noise. Hosts Peter and Anthea were wonderful - unobtrusive but available if needed. The wood fire/stove was a little bit cantankerous, but once working it kept the property snuggly and warm on a couple of nights where the temperature plummeted to well below freezing. An added bonus is that the bathroom has a full bath tub - most self catering properties of this size only have a shower. The ducks, geese and chickens are all friendly and chatty, and there are also 5 llamas to get up close and personal with (a first for me). I would thoroughly recommend this property and will definitely be staying here on my next trip (hopefully they will have a vacancy!).

We had a fabulous stay in Chequer Stable.. This lovely little cottage has everything you need for a relaxing break. Very modern facilities and loved sitting out watching the ducks, geese, hens, chickens, llamas etc! The cottage is situated quite close to a busy road but we didn't find this a problem - in fact we loved that it was so close to everywhere! 10 minutes from the M6 makes it perfectly situated for exploring the area and there is so much to see and do! Book it, you will not be disappointed!

My husband, son and I enjoyed a great week in this quirky cottage.. The owners have thought of every little detail to make this a wonderful place to stay. The antics of the llamas, chickens and ducks provided lots of entertainment. Sandbach is ideally situated for exploring Cheshire and the peak district. We would definitely make a return visit to Chequer Stables.

The host, Mrs.. Anthea Hughes, is very friendly and helpful. The little cottage has been furnished with surprising thoughfulness. We even had expendable barbecue sets, all spices for cooking on hand, vegetable oil, a bottle of milk in the fridge and even a bottle of wine as a welcome gift. The place is on a type of hobby farm with lots of different animals (geese, ducks, chicken, and even lamas). People who like animals will enjoy it very much. We are sure to come back.

June 2017
Exceptional cottage, very clean and well laid out, nice touch of wine, cookies and milk on our arrival, the location of the cottage is excellent for exploring the peak district, and despite the weather (rain! ) we managed to get out and about, there are 2 good pubs within walking distant who do good meals and very friendly atmosphere. The collection of animals on the property make for a great atmosphere and you can lose hours just watching the ducks, geese rabbits and llamas in the field or feeding them, the star is the female duck that thinks shes human and follows you around and acts more like a cat than a duck. Many thanks to the owners who made us very welcome and went out of their way to make our stay and enjoyable one. Will look to return again in the future
