Ceol Na Mara description

Holiday home
This single storey wing of the owner's house is set in a wonderful coastal position at Spanish Point. Set at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, this property offers superb accommodation with two en-suite bedrooms able to sleep four - with sea views as well as a welcoming sitting room with sliding doors. The property is also within a mile of the village's traditional pubs and is close to the amenities of Miltown Malbay, Doolin and Lahinch.

Area
Situated on the west coast of County Clare in Ireland, the village of Spanish Point takes its name from the Spaniards who died there in 1588 when the Armada was wrecked during stormy weather. Today, the village consists of many holiday homes, several pubs - some of which offer live Irish music - a lovely beach which is popular amongst swimmers and surfers, and a nine-hole golf course - one of the oldest in Ireland. Just three miles away is the small town of Miltown Malbay, providing a selection of shops and pubs, whilst the seaside town of Lahinch is also close by. Visitors can enjoy the Cliffs of Moher - located to the north of Lahinch - which offer superb views of the North Atlantic and the Aran Islands in clear weather.

County Clare has so much on offer; boat trips, quirky pubs, seaside resorts and a great tradition for Irish music, all set amidst spectacular scenery such as the towering Cliffs of Moher and the fascinating landscape of The Burren.

We have travelled a good amount through the world (eg: Kenya, Maldives, Goa, Bali, Florida to name a few), and whilst we have many places we would like to go again we never have because there are so many places left to visit - until now! Never have we felt so comfortable, never so welcome (both by the owners and the Irish people), never so relaxed, never so much to do if we can drag ourselves away from 'home'. Add to that the view, the sound of the sea (Ceol Na Mara appropriately translates as music of the sea), places to eat and shop nearby but not on the doorstep, etc., and we found so much perfection that we have already decided to return next year, probably for 2 weeks. I could write a whole chapter in praise but read all the other positive reviews - there is no need to repeat them they are all true and cover it well. To be a genuine review it has to find a negative somewhere, so after much pondering I would say that the en-suite rooms are a bit small but that is about as nit-picking as you can get! Things to do, places to go - in a week we only scratched the surface - magnificent scenery in all directions (we visited The Burren, Loop Head, Cliffs of Moher, all spectacular), horse riding, fishing, golf etc. etc, several towns around with varied shopping at reasonable prices, fuel for the car within 2 miles (Diesel cheaper than UK), Supermarkets, and above all restaurants. A warning though - if you want to go to a restaurant make very sure that you are hungry first - the helpings seem to cater for the USA market!

We were greeted by Raymond and Sheila and were instantly treated as part of the family with coffee and biscuits and a homely chat for half an hour.. Then we were afforded total privacy for our stay. The house was excellent and the sea views were spectacular best we ever had. Another treat were their miniature ponys and their tiny foals. The night before we left we were treated to drinks, tea and biscuits and the best laughs and brilliant conversation for 3 hours. Thanks again to Raymond and Sheila. Pat and Joan.

This cottage has the most amazing outlook.. The view from the bedroom and sitting room is stunning, and the sunsets over the Atlantic are amazing. Mr and Mrs Devine were kind and welcoming. The whole area is picturesque and worth exploring.

We had a lovely holiday.. Mr and Mrs Devine were very welcoming and friendly. The house was beautifully clean and quaintly presented. However the washing machine access is not great, we had to ask for the key for the laundry first time as they were going away overnight when we needed it. So we were able to on that occasion and then handed the key back on their return as there is only one key. Then they went away for a couple more nights later in the week, had we known they would be absent we would have asked for the key again so we could use the washing machine. I ended up doing a full load as a hand wash which isn't a great way to spend a holiday! We deliberately packed light as we thought we had unrestricted access to the machine, plus we run/cycle every day and so have a lot of sweaty sports gear. The weather went quite cold when we were there and the hosts were away on their 2nd trip but we didn't know how to turn on any heating, it seemed to be controlled from the main house. We made do with a little electric heater that was provided. We did have a lovely time here, hopefully theses two points can be addressed in future to make it perfect! They shouldn't deter any prospective holidaymaker - just make sure to get a key up front and clarify the heating system at the outset.

Absolutely brilliant holiday.. So relaxing . Cottage had everything you needed and spotlessly clean. The view of the sea was just wonderful with such a lovely garden as well. As for the owners of the cottage Shiela and Raymond they were two of the nicest people you could every wish to meet. The cottage, the places we went and saw and Shiela and Raymond made our holiday perfect. Can’t wait to return. Would highly recommend it.

Your description stated that there was central heating, this was not available due to a boiler failure.. It was also stated that the owners would contribute the first E30 toward the electricity cost. The owners said this was not the case, however they kindly met the total cost as we had to use portable electric heaters because of the lack of central heating. We would add that Raymond and Sheila were very welcoming nice hosts.

Ceol Na Mara is a wonderful haven, perfectly poised on 'the edge of the world' - next stop USA.. The sunsets, the wild Atlantic Ocean and a clean, safe, quiet cottage to ourselves, what more could we want. A perfect place to stay to discover the magical coastline of County Clare - the Burren, the Cliffs of Moher and so much more. The Devines are excellent 'hosts' - giving visitors a warm welcome on arrival, there when you need them, unobtrusive for the rest of the time. We returned to England relaxed, refreshed, renewed and grateful for our moment of respite in our busy lives.

Very friendly hosts.. Terrific view of the ocean. Good basis for exploring the county. The bed was a bit small, but the mattress was very good.

It has been a couple months ago but Ireland is still fresh in our minds. We landed in Dublin and moved to the west-coast to find one of the best locations we have ever been, Ceol Na Mara. We were welcomed by Sheila, a very kind and lovely owner of the place who made us feel home instantly. We were amazed by the view of the Atlantic Ocean, which starts at the end of the backyard. The cottage has everything you need and feels very comfy! Raymond joined us later and invited us on the first day to join them to a real Irish pub where their son would play music. We had a wonderful evening, and we could even drink a pint or two because Raymond was driving! In the area there are lots of locations to visit. The Cliffs of Moher are within a 20 minute drive and if you go in the evening you can see the beautiful sunset for free! Also The Burren and all the historical sites are a must see. Down to the south, Kilkee opens up its cliffs which are as beautiful as the Cliffs of Moher but has a lot less tourists. Thank you Sheila and Raymond for your kindness and the location! On the last evening we did visit them in their house and talked the whole evening about everything, with a cup of tea and and cookies. If we go to Ireland, we will surely visit you again!

Ceol na Mara has to be the most lovely of locations to spend a holiday.. The scenery is just spectacular, in any weather. The house itself is home away from home. Spotlessly clean, fully equipped and so comfortable. The garden is a huge bonus, large and beautifully kept to a very high standard. A peaceful oasis in which to enjoy lunch or, perhaps, a glass of wine of an evening while watching the waves rolling in. The owners themselves are the most friendly and hospitable people that my husband and I have met in a very long time. They welcomed us with open arms and could not have been more helpful in every aspect. Spanish Point is a most perfect location for a holiday and to stay at Ceol na Mara is just the icing on the cake. We are defintely going back. Carol and Tom, Newry, Co. Down, Northern Ireland

My husband and I have just spent a week in beautiful Spanish Point and were so lucky to have found Ceol na Mara, the most perfect location in which to stay. The house itself is spotlessly clean, fully equipped and so comfortable. The garden is a huge bonus, just a beautiful oasis in which to enjoy the spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean, cliffs and even the Aran Islands and all whilst enjoying a glass of wine on your own patio. What more could you ask for! Except that there is, the owners themsevles. Such friendliness and hospitality is hard to find, but definitely not at Ceol na Mara. Just perfect!

This is one of, or perhaps even the BEST cottage I've stayed in in Europe. The most spectacular views are non-stop with the front yard stretching to the cliff top of the Atlantic, it's centrally located on the west coast, so for touring each day (as we did), it's a prime location to access many of Irelands "things to see". The cottage is immaculately clean, and has everything you could possibly need. Our hosts, Raymond and Sheila were two of the friendliest people I have ever met, and were very helpful in planning our day trips with directions and suggestions on the "must see" list. I fully plan to return someday, and will make Ceol Na Mara our home when we do.

We had a wonderful holiday in this lovely house on the west coast and we found the real Ireland! The owners were the most friendly and helpful hosts you can imagine! We entered as strangers and we left as friends! For adults and children this amazing property is the perfect place for a perfect holiday! We will never forget it and would like to come again one day and say thanks a million!

This beautifully and generously furnished cottage was beyond our expectations! The views of the Atlantic from the master bedroom and sitting room, the distant sound of the crashing waves, sitting out in the evening in our own outdoor sitting area was magical! Our hosts, Sheila and Raymond, live in the attached cottage and could not be more accommodating without being overbearing. Warm and generous with their time and very knowledgable. Perfect place to relax and unwind. We have traveled through Ireland on many visits. We made day trips to Kerry, Galway and of course, Clare. The Cliffs of Moher are only a short drive away. Just lovely! Will definitely be back! USA

Thank you so much for the lovely time we spent at Ceol Na Mar! The owners are so welcoming and did everything to make us feel at home. The property is stunning with a perfect view of the ocean. With little kids you could definitely enjoy the ponies as well, and of course Spot the donkey! From the house you can drive up and down the West Coast and get to see Ireland at its finest. Some major tourist-attractions are perfectly suited for a day-trip! Well, as you can read, we enjoyed our stay and recommend it to everybody!

The situation of the property has a wow factor - lie in bed gazing at the Atlantic with sunset and stars at night. An ideal situation for exploring County Clare.

Ceol Na Mara is cosy cottage on Spanish Point (a short drive to Lahinch). The owners couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. It is small but perfectly formed with each bedroom having its own en-suite shower room and a really well equipped kitchen. There is a lovely view out to the Atlantic ocean and a beautiful well-tended garden. Although small kids would need to be supervised, the garden (with swings and goals) was ideal for our 2 kids (8 and 10). It's a 10-15 walk to the Armada Hotel and other places to eat out in Spanish Point. The only downside is that wifi is only available outside, which isn't great if it's raining or you want to use a laptop.

Beautiful view, had a very relaxing stay. Kids loved the freedom of the garden and being able to see the ponies and donkeys in the adjacent field.

Our hosts have over thirty five years experience in the hospitality trade so the welcome was wonderful, we got on so well that we have become great friends and made arrangements to return next year. The accomodation was superb and the furnishing excellent . The view to the rear of the property out to sea was breathtaking a beautiful sunset every night . There was plenty of places to go to in reasonable distance. The cliff top walks were amazing The friendly Irish people made our holiday complete.

In 'Coel Na Mara' the music of the sea accompanied the peerless views from the comfortable modern cottage. The friendly owners were always ready to help but respected our privacy. This was very good value and we would stay there again.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Ceol Na Mara at Spanish Point and had a wonderful time. The cottage itself has been well looked after and provided all the essentials we needed for our break. The cottage is located next to the sea, with sea views from the living room across the garden; these views are stunning in the evening when the sun is setting out west. What we appreciated the most about our stay here was the warm hospitality we received from the owners of the cottage; they provided essential guidance on the best way to see Clare, helped us out when we needed it, took us on an night out to an Irish pub (was a great night) for all this we are very grateful. I would definitely recommend Ceol Na Mara as a place to stay to see the natural beauty of west Ireland and Clare.

We just finished our stay at this cottage and it was a true little piece of heaven. The owners met us at the local hotel to guide us to the property. Driving in to the parking area took my breath away! The views are stunning and it was a great base for touring the area. The owners are very friendly yet not intrusive. It was great to have them nearby if needed. We were sad to leave and hope to return again one day. Only tip is to make sure you get good instructions on how to run everything if you aren't used to european electricity.

Although the weather was rainy (what else is new...) we experienced Ireland at its best.
