We had a brilliant week's holiday in Helmsley.. I know the area well and chose it for my seventieth birthday with a luncheon at the Wheelhouse of the Star Inn in Harome, Andrew Pern's Michelin star restaurant .Our accommodation was very comfortable and warm with my 4 year old granddaughter wishing she could stay there for ever ! They loved playing with the toys in the house. Castle View is ideally situated close to the market square, very secluded with attractive gardens and an area for BBQ 's. There is also a new Italian restaurant in the centre of town where the pizzas are the best I have ever tasted and definitely worth a visit . We had an excursion Piglets Homestead with a tractor ride around the farm , a large barn play area and mini tractors for the children to ride on; with opportunities to feed the animals and see the new born piglets and lambs.Should you wish to spend a day in York, it's best to use the park and ride there's lots of museums catering for all ages , as well as York Minister and if you are not from the North then a visit to Betty's for lunch or afternoon tea. We look forward to returning to Castle View The location is fabulous

The cottage was lovely, the pictures did not do it justice.. There was everything there for our requirements, a lovely cosy lounge, warm and sunny conservatory and our doggy loved the garden. Great location to travel around the North Yorkshire Moors

Firstly, reviews can be subjective. If you spent £650 for a week here your view would be different from someone spending over £2000. This view is based on us spending around £1400 for a week. This is a nice property and the location in relation to Helmsley can not be faulted. Such a short walk to the market place it's fab. Helmsley is a lovely little town with more dog friendly eateries than anywhere I have ever been! The house is large , but I think the occupancy should be less. Luckily we were not at capacity but I think it would be quite uncomfortable if we were. Firstly the bedroom with 2 extra beds, we had one pulled out and that was enough. With 2 out there would no floor space between them. The other issue is the kitchen. When the table is away from the wall it leaves very little maneuvering room for cooking and serving and feels quite cramped. I had a real problem with the lack of privacy glass in the en-suite. Most of the time you therefore had the blind down and the light on. Unfortunately the very noisy extractor fan carries on for a ridiculous length of time after the light is turned off. At night this was especially annoying. I would have used the mirror light but the bulb was missing! My other major issue was in thinking the garden was enclosed. Although I was outside with our dog, I did not realise he could get through the hedge - one minute he was there, then he was gone after a cat next door. Several minutes later he returned following frantic shouting from all the family but it was a heart stopping time. Other little niggles; Only one toilet roll in each bathroom and one bin bag in the kitchen with no spare?! Ridiculous bottom rack in dishwasher with no real space for plates and a big crash when you pulled it in or out. Constantly dripping tap in kitchen. I know I seem like I am being negative but I feel there are issues with this property that need addressing. I try to give honest reviews and I feel this is. On a final note, this is the only property I have ever stayed in where I have been asked to strip the beds and empty the bins - they said only if you have time but really?!

Castle view is a lovely cottage well located, nice outdoor terrace area which was well used during our visit for morning coffee and evening chats over a glass of wine, well looked after and good communication with the owner.. I would love to re visit and have no hesitation to recommend this cottage to everyone.

This house is warm and welcoming in a snowy November, fully equipped with everything you could need for a family weekend away. The owners are friendly and efficient making the organising very easy. The location was great for us both walking distance into Helmsley and easy access to great dog walks. All we need now is to book again in the summer to make full use of the garden.

Castle View has everything.. All modern facilities whilst remaining a period cottage. With bed rooms upstairs and downstairs it suits all sorts of family groups. Situated in a direct, but out of the way, 2minute walk for easy access to Helmsley market square. We've been staying in North Yorkshire cottages for 28yrs now. This cottage is comfortably top of the table in all aspects.

August 2016
We visited Helmsley as a group of two families, in all there were 9 of us and 2 dogs. The house was easily large enough to accommodate us without us getting under each others' feet. Every room is beautifully decorated, with four good sized bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and a lovely large kitchen, living room and conservatory. Plus a really nice, secluded garden and decking area, with private parking for one car. On arrival, it was clear that the house was spotlessly clean, and there was even a small welcome gift awaiting us. The owners provided logs for the fire, use of bicycles, ideas for things to do / see / eat, and really everything anyone could need for a great holiday on the edge of the North York moors. We spent most of our time walking, but also used Helmsley's outdoor pool, visited the castle, Rievaulx Abbey and Mount Grace Priory. We mostly ate in the house kitchen in the evening and then retired to the conservatory for a glass of wine. We did venture into the village for a wonderful meal at the Black Swan one evening - thoroughly recommended, but with prices to match the quality of the food! In all, a wonderful relaxing week in a beautiful part of the country. Thinking of returning, maybe for a winter break.

A great location, Helmsley has so much to offer, and we loved being able to walk to shops and cafes, which are only a few minutes away. We can't speak highly enough of Castle View which was comfortable, spacious, very well equipped and in immaculate condition. All mod cons were of the highest quality and the furniture was comfortable and tasteful. The kitchen was also well equipped and there was lots of storage space in the bedrooms. A real home from home.

The house was very comfortable and spacious, we felt at home and very relaxed whilst we were there. The property was conveniently located in a nice quiet area about a two minute walk to the centre of the beautiful market town, which had lovely quaint shops and tearooms. The house was situated in easy access of the neighbouring villages and places of interest.

this house had it all for my family lovely comfortable furnishings (the pillows are the best ever) and with parking for us all (one on the drive plenty of parking in the street) this house is close to the town centre and attractions, when we arrived the house was spotless with lots of small extra touches to make our stay even better, I think we spent most of our time in the house in the conservatory which was lovely in the mornings then late evening with the lights around the garden made this even more special. We are hoping to visit here again

April 2016
There was nothing to dislike at this lovely property or of Helmsley. The house was close to the centre of Helmsley with lots of attractions nearby and the house was very comfortable with lots of room for our family. We all enjoyed sitting in the conservatory in the early morning and watching the birds in the garden. It was even better in the evening when the garden lights came on as the garden is very secluded and the area was very quiet. We all had a brilliant week

The house is ideally situated for easy access to the town. The bunk bedroom with all the toys is fantastic for children and the garden was great for our 3 year old grandson to play in. May 2014
The location of this house is perfect. Walk into town for milk in just a minute, and walk to the ruins of Rievaulx Abbey in just an hour. Playground just a short walk away for the young children. Also, great relief to have the toys/legos in a rental, gave us downtime without always resorting to a movie. A short and easy one hour drive to York or the coast. Definitely leave a day in your plans to just hang out at home! Heated floors and the sun room were the biggest hit with us. Will return again.

February 2014
It was a great place to stay with the family, including small children. There were toys and spaces for them to play. Shopping was a short walk away and there was lovely countryside all around. It was warm, comfortable and eating at the table worked surprisingly well. Thank you very much.

February 2014
This is a very nice cottage, in a fabulous location for the town. Except you can't see the castle so the name is a little misleading. It was plenty big enough for the 9 of us and there was lots of kitchen equipment, towels, bedding, games etc for everyone. The bedrooms are spacious and nicely presented. The whole cottage was impeccably clean. The bathrooms are modern and clean and there are enough for the number of people which was nice to not queue! Hot water was ok although went cool at times. Having wifi was good as phone signal is poor. The cottage was a little cold at times and it would have been good if we could have controlled the heating. However underfloor heating was a nice touch though, as is the real fire. Overall a very pleasant stay in a lovely area with nice walks and things to do around.

Our party had an age range of 86 to 14 and the needs of everyone were more than catered for. Castle View is a beautiful house with quality fittings and we all loved it. My mother has to use a wheelchair and was perfectly comfortable in the ground floor bedroom. We cannot praise our holiday home enough and will definitely be back.

June 2013
Castle View is a very comfortable holiday cottage in the heart of the picturesque village of Yorkshire. The kitchen is narrow, which is a bit inconvenient if you occupy the house with 6 people or more, but in general the house is perfectly equipped and very well maintained. The area around Helmsley is gorgeous : Rievaulx abbey, the North York Moors, the Yorkshire Coast, the city of York are all nearby.

March 2013
We were five adults so only used three bedrooms hence there was plenty of room for all of us. Location is nice and quiet and VERY handy for the market square. Given that it was the middle of March and absolutely freezing outside we quickly worked out how to keep the majority of the house warm and cozy ... although never quite managed to get the master bedroom and en-suite with its three outside walls to a really comfortable temperature. Kitchen worked well for five with the table against the wall. However for 7+ people the table would need to be away from the wall and would then make moving around the kitchen difficult. Easily sleeps eight and could see it working well for two families sharing. There are beds for two more but place would be getting exceedingly crowded. Living room only seats 6 but there are more seats in the conservatory. Nice tidy garden and the bikes would have been used had the weather been better. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer, but we could not find a clothes horse for those items not suitable for the dryer - perhaps the one real thing missing. Lots of games and videos. Owner was very helpful. This place would be in the 5 star luxury bracket if it had WiFi.

Beautiful, cosy property with everything you could possibly need from a holiday rental. Large, attractive rooms , decorated and furnished to a very high standard, with lots of extra, thoughtful touches such as Dvds and books downstairs and some lovely kids games and toys upstairs in one of the bedroom, very handy and a fantastic idea. The owner of this property was fantastic, very helpful and nothing seemed like too much trouble. We had a lovely relaxing break and will definitely return in the not too distant future.

Castleview is situated within walking distance of Helmsley town. Lovely garden and conservatory. Very peaceful enjoyed watching the blackbirds in the garden . Underfloor heating in the kitchen lovely. The children loved all the games, toys and books to play with. We particularly liked the family kitchen. A quiet location yet very close to all village amenities. We enjoyed the ability to have all the family together yet with lots of space for privacy. Excellent facilities for children (games, books, videos, toys). Felt like home. Lots of tourist info at the property.

July 2012
This was a family holiday and so it was great to be able to stay together in one place. The children's toys and books were really appreciated as there is never much room to take many with you. Helmsley is also a very pretty and friendly town.

July 2012
We were looking for somewhere to stay for our family for our son's wedding and so this was ideal. Four big bedrooms, including 1 large room for the boys with lots of toys and books, was perfect. The house had virtually everything you might need, which was particularly important when the weather was poor. The Conservatory also was a great space to chill out in. With the cottage adjacent to the Cleveland Way, it was great for walking with our border collie. Our daughter needed to see a doctor during the stay and the people at the local Surgery, only a few hunderd yards away, could not have been more friendly and helpful. Thoroughly recommended!
Mrs Riley
April 2012
Property was very spacious and comfortable, excellent bathrooms, good information and everything needed for large family was in the house. The children loved the variety of toys and games. Owners thought of everything that may be needed whilst away from home. Great oven for feeding a large family. Excellent collection of video /dvd's. Really well positioned for short walk to lovely town.

The cottage was hired so we could celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary with our family. The kitchen was brilliant with a large table which we could all congregate to eat and chat. The underfloor heating was brilliant as we were there in December. It was situated just behind the square which made it convenient for us to walk to the shops, pubs, and castle. The welcome pack and flowers were a lovely touch.
Mrs Kemmett
February 2012
The cottage was extremely well-equipped for a family, central and generally lovely. I spoke to the owners beforehand who were very helpful and I was delighted my three-year-old son had a large range of toys to play with. He would happily have stayed playing with them! The area is also outstandingly beautiful with much to do. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at the cottage and would happily return for much longer.

Helmsley is a great base to stay. We loved the shops and nearby attractions of the walled gardens and Riveleau Terrace/Abbey. The Cottage is ideal for young families as the children's play room/bedroom has plenty of toys, supplied by the owner to keep them occupied. There is a short walk to a children's play area and next door to that is an open air pool. Helmsley may be a small town but there is plenty of things going on. Many thanks to the owners for providing such a lovely cottage. We hope to be back again next year.

This beautiful house is even more spacious that the photographs suggest, and although we filled all the rooms we never felt on top of one another. It is prettily decorated, the bedrooms large and airy and the beds very comfortable, and three bathrooms , one with a large bath, meant no queues in the morning! Having a downstairs bedroom and shower was ideal for one elderly guest, all very accessible. Every detail has been thought of all throughout the house and the lovely kitchen is no exception - much better equipped than home! We sat 11 comfortably round the table. The conservatory is a great bonus, such a comfortable place to sit looking out over the lovely garden. The location is ideal, perfectly quiet yet only five minutes walk down a lane to the square in Helmsley and all its amenities. The house was spotlessly clean, and finding beds made up, bread, butter, milk etc waiting was a much appreciated thoughtful touch after a long journey. The large selection of toys in the cupboards and videos to watch on the upstairs or downstairs television would keep any child amused for any number of rainy days. Our only regret was not staying there longer. I couldn't recommend it more highly and would love to go back again one day.

Our group was told by the friendly owners to treat the property like a home from home, but when we arrived the property is of a better standard than our homes! It is clean, very well equipped and the underfloor heating was a great bonus. There were books, games/toys and videos also for our use. When we arrived there was bread, butter, tea, milk and biscuits left for us, which was a very nice touch. Quiet and lovely but also a convenient location for local services. We really hope to visit again.

The cottage was well equipped and in a perfect location. Only two minutes walk to the market square with its good range of shops, deli's and places to eat. There are lots of lovely walks that can be started from the cottage, in particular the Cleveland Way to Rievaulx Abbey; also there's a walk up the lane at the back of the cottage through Ashdale. There's plenty of tourist information in the cottage and the owner was extremely helpful. Helmsley is very central and there are lots of exciting places to visit.

This place is amazing!! Group of 10 adults stayed here for a wedding in the 'Black Swan' 2 mins away. Plenty of space for all of us. Everything was thought of down to having milk and bread there when we arrived to having the fire ready to light. (which we really liked seeing as it was snowing when we arrived). It was spotless also and finished to a very high standard. We all loved the kitchen especially the table, it was really nice to all be able to sit down to breakfast together. Castle View is also very close to Hemsley Village which looks like it belongs on a postcard. Lovely town with loads of nice little shops and pubs. We all really enjoyed our stay here and could not fault anything with it. So much so that we're hoping to return in the summer as we really loved the garden space and could not use it due to the below freezing weather.

A superb property with high standard facilities in an excellent location. Additional facilities like the toys for the children were well received. The rooms were spacious, clean and tidy. The attention to detail was very much appreciated. Excellent storage space. Local information about things to do and places to go was helpful. Fantastic value for money and the whole process from booking very easy. Would definitely recommend and use again.

My wife & I wanted to take my retired parents and their dog(!) away for a relaxing long weekend. Castle View is ideally positioned 5 mins walk from the market town square of Helmsley - which offers a range of good shops & restaurants. The house is fully equipped for all needs, very welcoming style, very clean and well-maintained. Would certainly recommend for a similar stay.

Castle View was a welcoming property that felt like a family home rather than just a holiday home. It was ideally located for the town centre yet quiet with country walks and a park nearby.

The property was home from home. Very comfortable and well presented. The garden had been landscaped, very pretty. It was apparent the owners wanted guests to enjoy their stay, with extras such as the bikes, games, dvd's and modern up to date furnishings! The house was in the perfect location for Helmsley, just a short stroll, up a side road from the main square.

The house was brilliant, very clean and in good order. The kids loved the fridge and had never drank so much water. Coming from London could not believe how nice it tasted. Walking into the village and on longer walks was excellent, also the historic buildings captured our imaginations. The only down side was sitting in the living room, not enough seats, suggest they move the book case into the conservatory, freeing up space in the living room for 10!!

The location was ideal for both the coast, the moors and of course the castles, abbeys and historic houses. Also excellent walking from the house. Great holiday home for a large family.

The cottage was superb - fit the bill perfectly for a large family get-together for a 70th birthday. Plenty of space for everyone and the extra bonus of toys for the kids if the weather turned. Standard of furnishings was excellent and the central location in the centre of Helmsley meant getting around was easy. Golden memories for everyone. We had a wonderful time.

Within a couple of minutes walk of Helmsley Centre. The garden, although not overly large, certainly was big enough to accommodate an evening barbeque and was well equipped for this. The house was more than comfortable and well furnished and equipped. We we were all very happy with the property and had a lovely week in a beautiful part of the world.

Lovely big spacious property furnished to a high standard. Well located for town centre, including pubs and castle. The cottage was very well equipped with everything you could need. The garden was beautiful with decking area and chiminea for bbq and fire. The owners seem to have thought of absolutely everything, try as we might we couldn't think of anything negative - it even had bikes in the shed. If the property belonged to me I wouldn't want to share it...
