Cartmel Cottage Self-Catering

Holiday home
Cartmel Cottage is a stone-built, end-terrace cottage just off the main square of the North Yorkshire market town of Middleham, just a couple of miles from Leyburn. The cottage contains one double and one single bedroom which with the addition of a family bathroom make it suitable for three people. The rest of the cottage is made up of an open plan living area with a fitted kitchen, a dining area and a sitting area with a woodburning stove. To the outside of the cottage is a gravelled garden and patio with outdoor furniture. Cartmel Cottage is centrally placed just a minute's walk from the main facilities of Middleham and is a wonderful cottage for visiting this area of Yorkshire.

The Wensleydale town of Middleham is renowned for its history and race horses. Much of the history is bound up with its Norman castle, which dates from 1190 and has a castle keep second in size only to the Tower of London. The pretty market square is partially cobbled and offers a wide range of shops, pubs and places to eat. The bustling market town of Leyburn is just a short drive away, offering a variety of great shops and pubs. All in all a superb base for exploring Wensleydale and all within easy driving distance of York, the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales and Heritage Coast.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

Gas central heating with woodburning stove. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, washing machine, TV with Freeview, Blu-ray DVD, CD/digital radio/MP3 player with iPhone Lightning dock, WiFi. Fuel, power and starter pack for stove inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Gravelled garden with patio and furniture. Roadside parking outside property, plus roadside parking in the main square approx 50 yards away. Two well-behaved pets welcome. Sorry, no smoking. Shop and pub 1 min walk.

We'd been to Cartmel Cottage before so knew what to expect.. It's a lovely cottage in a lovely area, as long as you don't mind parking in the nearby square (I don't). One big improvement is that the old settee has been replaced with a better one.

Just loved this cottage.. Everyting was there for the comfort of myself and the dogs. This was a warm cosy cottage and I felt at home right from the start. Middleham is a lovely town and the surrounding area just perfect for me. Riverside walks and lovely countryside - albeit a tad muddy at this particular time. I intend to come back and explore further when things dry up a bit! My thanks to the owners for a lovely stay.

A pretty comfortable cottage in a lovely village with friendly, warm people who welcome visitors.. Lovely walks around and has the added interest of the race horses trotting by each morning. Well worth a visit, highly recommended.

Lovely cottage and location, but the settee is worn out and uncomfortable.. The boiler also trips out occasionally and requires resetting. Both were issues when we visited last year and the owner wrote in the introduction that the settee was in the process of being replaced and the boiler fixed but neither were any better this time. We would definitely stay at Cartmel again but only if these issues were addressed.

Cartmel Cottage is delightfully furnished and clean.. The beds are very comfortable with crisp cotton bedding and quilts. The cottage is situated in the heart of Middleham with shops and pubs close to hand. The latter provide interesting food especially pleasing we're their vegetarian choices. Of course the true delight are the racehorses from Mark Johnson's stable that pass in front of the cottage a few times every morning. There's a little garden at the front of the cottage to relax in and listen to the church chimes. A good selection of visitor nformation is provided. Although there is no parking outside the cottage, it isn't a problem as the square is close by. I would happily stay at Cartmel Cottage again if I returned to the Dales.

The cottage was lovely Middleham is lovely.. It should be noted that the only practical parking is in the quite small market square which can get full. Cartmel Cottage was very clean and had all the facilities we required. The owners sent us a very helpful email before we went with a wealth of information about the cottage and the area. It's a minor gripe but we didn't find the settee very comfy.

Excellent location if you like horses, start their riding from 0630 each morning, riding out passed the cottage.. Lovely area for walks

Was a really great cottage in a lovely village.. If you’re into history and race horses then Middleham will suit you to a T. A few times each morning dozens of race horses leave their stables next door making their way to the gallops which is also a great location for walking and running for humans too. Our only negatives was the cleanliness of the cottage, the cleaner doesn’t seem to know how to clean pan and vacuum the sides of the sofa oh and the knives in the block are blunt, making chopping up veg quite an experience. One key point to note is that this cottage is on the main road, can be especially noisy at the weekend with noisy motorbikes. We only ate out one evening, would recommend the Richard III on the square, not the smartest pub in the word but they do know how to cook! We would recommend this cottage, the owner will go out of their way to assist with your planning. For the negatives, the positives outweigh the negatives. We would definitely recommend this cottage and the location.

Cartmel Cottage was adorable except for the subdued lighting.. It was also situated within very easy reach of the village center and it was clean and we'll stocked with everything you could wish for.

This was a wonderful little cottage, slap bang in the centre of a lovely small town. We wanted a location where walking was accessible and it was. The town had several good pubs and also when we wanted to stay in the facilities in the cottage enabled us to cook a meal.

It was our 2nd time at this cottage and again had a great time. A lovely little cottage, with everything you need. Middleham is a beautiful place too, with 4 good pubs all within 100m of the cottage. Would definitely recommend.
