Amazing breathtaking property
Mrs Jemmett, September 2020
September 2020
Originally booked for April but due to full lockdown we were not able to go and had to move the break to September.. Although Sykes removed the fee to change the dates we had to pay the difference for dates and some dates it was more than a few hundred pounds different and should have been the same price. The cottage however is beautiful and has been tastefully converted from a Chapel to a holiday home. There was ample parking and equipment in the property. The owner Dez is very friendly. Location is great for exploring Snowdonia and you can the mountain range from the big Chapel windows. A convenience store is just across the road and a fish and chip shop literally a 2 minute walk around the corner.

We loved the top floor apartment at Capel Mawr, it was much more spacious than the photos suggested and felt like a real treat.. Most of the apartment was beautifully furnished and the bathroom had a luxurious roll top bath that we all enjoyed. Bedrooms were large and the beds were all comfy - as were the plentiful large sofas in the lounge area. A second toilet would have been super useful but wasn't a deal breaker. Notes on how to use the oven would be ideal - particularly since all of the markings have rubbed off so we were having to make guesses as to which knob to use and where we thought the right temperature would be. Overall, we had a really pleasant stay - thank you.

This home totally has the wow factor.. The photos don’t do it justice. Also a lot bigger than we were expecting, we got our steps in just walking around! Great views of the mountains through the windows too. Two good shops, a deli/butcher, a chippy and a pub with exceptional food too. Am already recommending this property!

We loved our stay at Capel Mawr.. It’s beautiful, spacious, clean and very well equipped. There’s so much to do in the local area which is stunning. The owner was very helpful and recommended some places for us to visit which were fabulous. Can’t wait to return.

Amazing place, exactly like the pictures and had more than everything we needed, it was truly stunning and we will definitely be returning.. Only thing was that we weren't aware that the building was actually 2 apartments and there was a party of 11 staying in the apartment below us which when we found out was a bit of a concern. However, we didn't hear any noise at all from them so it wasn't an issue at all!

Beautiful conversion with a luxurious hotel feel, loads of space and areas to sit to eat or to play games or just relax. Close to many nice places but Llanrug is by no means a tourist village so the property really stands out and you feel a little like an imposter at times. Luckily the coach park opposite was quite due to covid restrictions too! The locals in the pub were very friendly and helpful, the local shop owners less so! Shame this apartment does not have access to the seating area outside as it is reserved for the downstairs apartment. There is a table in the gravelled car park but it is surrounded by building materials which is a shame as it is actually a sun trap in the afternoon! Loads of great things to do relatively locally including horse riding or water sports. We hired a guide from the local activity centre for the day and went kayaking and Coasteering. No noise could be heard from the 2 families below but they could clearly hear us which was awkward as it rather puts a curfew on things if they have young families or like an early night! A spare key would be good as the shared property entrance is on a deadlock and the key safe outside the door meaning we couldn’t leave the kids in alone if we took a key as they wouldn’t have been able to get out! Pretty risky to be honest! The owner said he was too far away to bring us one too and to just leave the door open but the other guests locked it as they had small children rightly!

We had the best time in a beautiful holiday let, the converted chapel was stunning.. The only minor thing is that it only has one bathroom and sleeps 6 people, but this will not stop us from visiting again. We are planning another visit as soon as we can.

This place is a great place to stay and is so close to many attractions and places to visit.. It is extremely comfortable and has so many nooks and crannies to sit and enjoy. It was immaculately clean upon Which goes a long way to the enjoyment of this apartment. Have to say the acoustics are great if you fancy singing whilst staying. The village has a Co-op, Spar, fish and chip shop and a hair and beauty salon. It does not have washing facilities so may be worth considering a trip to the laundrette in Caernarfon. However, be prepared for a climb of 24 steps up to the apartment on arrival and every time you go out. This makes it unsuitable for the elderly (unless fit) and the infirm.

Although we thoroughly enjoyed staying here, we thought the 5* rating was a little high, more like a 4*.. It needed a second toilet/bathroom and possibly a washing machine, but otherwise a nice place to stay.
Mrs Wood, October 2019
October 2019
Capel Mawr was amazing place, so spacious (Huge) and wonderfully decorated.. They have really made the most of the former chapel. The only minor negative was the lack of laundry facilities - but not a major problem. Llanrug is a good location to explore the area or with two shops (Coop and Spar) a butchers, deli and a chip all within 1min of the chapel just hole up and relax...
Mrs Wood, October 2019
September 2019
The property we stayed in was outstanding.. ..it was a pleasure to stay in such a beautiful chapel conversion. the owner was welcoming and knowledgable of the area, being close by if we needed information or support. the location: although in a small village, had all amenities close by: a butchers, fish and chip shop, co-op and spa...the nearest pub is about an 8 minute walk away and there is an Indian restaurant 1.7 miles away...good location for exploring North Wales including Snowdonia...although we did not get to ride the train we learned it was best to book in advance.
Mrs Adamson, September 2019

Really simple booking process, loved the Sykes app - super easy to use We had an incredible stay at the Capel Mawr, beautiful property with lovely surroundings.. The property had everything we could possibly need and the features and decor of the house were perfect, we will definitely be back!

This was a fantastic place to stay with a serious WOW factor when you went through the door.. Everything was immaculate upon arrival and being self catering you are always hoping that the kitchen will have all the appliances you need - it did not disappoint. Its such a beautiful light and spacious place (even though there were 6 adults), we had ample room in the huge living area. Cannot recommend this place highly enough if you are looking for unique accommodation just a 10min drive from Snowdon and within easy access of all the main attractions in North Wales. The owner was extremely helpful and was kind enough to allow an extension on our check out time, as it was a Sunday. Thanks again Dez - we shall return!

An hour after we arrived we experienced water coming through the kitchen ceiling (it was raining) and called the owner to report the situation.. He answered and said that he would be round the next morning to take a look. He did not arrive the next morning and we never received a call or text to say he was not coming. In fact he did not come round or contact us all week. We therefore had a kitchen bowl and towel on the kitchen floor all week collecting the water leak from the roof each time it rained. The cleanliness of the kitchen was disappointing. The dishwasher stank and we refused to use it on that basis. There was no spare dishwasher salt that we could use to try to rectify the problem. The cooker and oven had no labelling (temperature settings etc) which effectively rendered it useless. The crockery and cutlery was unclean and not of a standard we would have expected in a rental property so we washed items that we wanted to use. Some of the kitchen cupboards were full of junk. Island counter surface was dirty and having lent against it on the first morning had to change a jumper. All handles felt sticky and dirty to touch. Several lamps needed new bulbs which we did find and change. The toilet handle drips every time you flush it. The toilet brush was shocking. On our return home we sent the owner a photograph of the roof identifying a missing roof slate which was probably the cause of the leak. We also expressed our disappointment that he had not come round or had the courtesy to contact us to which he responded "Didn't want to disturb you as you seemed to want to keep yourself to yourself" We don't know how he came to this decision as we had contacted him immediately that the problem arose when we arrived. Overall our experience was a lot lower than we had expected. If asked if we would stay here again it would be a no but on a positive note the apartment was a great space but rough around the edges. We will choose yes to publishing our feedback. However it would be your decision to maybe see this property for yourself and make your decision as to what is acceptable for your website reputation.

There are quite a few stairs up to the accommodation, but the climb is well worth it.. Sometimes the room as shown on the website is slightly bigger than you find in reality. Not so with Capel Mawr. The main room is simply stunning, and the fittings and parts from the old Chapel which have been incorporated in the design are amazing. The village of Llanrug is very handy being so close to Caernarfon one way and Llanberis the other. One little niggle. On the oven temperature dial, the numbers have disappeared, which made cooking a little bit hit and miss.

Smashing pad, unique place to stay with all you need to enjoy a pleasant stay in the heart of North Wales.. A great location for Snowdonia and all surrounding areas for North Wales. Proprietors are helpful and available to attend to all needs. The Prosecco welcome gift was a lovely start to our hols. Thanks!

December 2018
We stayed at Chapel Mawr over the Christmas period.. We had a fantastic stay in this beautiful apartment. On entrance to the property we found the place quite impressive and oozing with tons of character in so many ways. so if your looking for somewhere a bit different to stay then this is certainly worth a visit. We found the open living space extremely spacious and just perfect for enjoying some good quality family time. A perfect place for enjoying those long dark evenings in for this time of year. It is also a great location for travelling and exploring the area with excellent facilities in the local village itself. Thanks again Dez for a lovely stay, be sure to come back one day for a second visit! The Morgan Family

Beautiful and traditional property.. Fantastic open living space with decent sized bedrooms. I would definitely recommend Capel Mawr to anybody but particularly to those who want to get away and share some good times with family and friends.

This break was a week before Xmas so had typical December weather & caught the edge of a storm front on the Saturday which was very wet & windy.. The building was fabulous, spacious & comfortable, we were very sad to leave it. The area of North Wales is a place we've visited before & would happily do so again.

Owner very welcoming and about over the week if any problem would have arisen.. Its was our second stay in Capel Mawr and would highly recommend staying in this very quirky apartment.

September 2018
We thought the place was amazing.. We found the beds a problem as the main bedroom was way to hard and the second bedroom way too soft so I ended up sleeping in a single bed.not the best solution on our 40th wedding anniversary holiday. Lucky for us in a way we were only 2 on the holiday as my in-laws had to cancel at the last moment due to ill health. We also thought if it was full it does only have one toilet.

A really lovely place.. Ideal for a family get together. Comfortable and beautifully furnished. The only negative was that we could have done with an extra bathroom. However everything else perfect.

A stunning building with an absolutely fabulous interior.. Comfortable spotless spacious & luxurious. A beautiful part of North Wales close to Snowdonia. Dez the owner is very friendly & helpful if needed. The only thing that might be a negative to those with knee/hip problems etc is the 2 flights of stairs once you enter the front door. Once up it’s all on one floor as stated. We will definitely stay again. Thanks Dez.

Had a great week at Capel Mawr. What a beautiful conversion of the upper floor of the chapel. There was plenty of space for us all. Everything was clean and tidy and everything worked as it should. Large kitchen area with large range cooker, american fridge/freezer, dishwasher etc. made it easy to cater for our clan. The owner was very helpful and went out of his way to make sure that our stay was a very pleasurable one. We will be back.

A beautiful, spacious and clean property to stay in. The chapel is comfortable, warm and unique. The owner was welcoming and well informed about where to visit. It will be hard to find such an impressive property to rent for future holidays.

Lovely apartment with loads of character.. Everything you need was there in terms of inside the apartment. There is no garden only a graveled driveway, this should be removed from the listing. The summerhouse was unusable as it was being used as a storeroom. All mattresses need replacing in my opinion as they are the wrong size for the beds or uncomfortable. The local area and amenities is outstanding, with excellent views that you never tire from. All in all a great holiday. We would return to this area without hesitation.

As I drove up to the property I was expecting to see the beautiful structure that is shown in the pictures, what I actually got was a structure surrounded by scaffolding. On entering the property it was clean and tidy, but the promise of using an american fridge did not happen as it was not working, there is a medium sized fridge freezer tucked away on the left of the kitchen area looking on from the doorway in, some of the sockets did not look secure, as they where loose or had gaps at the back. The views where not there due to the scaffolding. I felt very let down and disapointed. I rang sykes the following day and they moved me to another holiday accomadation. The owner had been contacted and he offered me a miniscule reduction for the lose of the view, I felt insulted by the offer. The property I went on to was much better.

Three friends and I have just returned from a weeks' holiday at this stunning apartment. Yes it is an old building, and, in places, the walls are not as smooth as a modern building, but this is only to be expected.... yes, there is a door that probably does link the apartment to the owners ' own property, but at the top of the stairs is your own front door, which is secured with your own key. We had a lovely, relaxed week, visiting Llanberis, Llandudno, Betws-y-Coed, Electric Mountain and Anglesey. We found the apartment to be well furnished and had all that you could want or need for a comfortable holiday, in a very spacious apartment. We would highly recommend this apartment, but maybe not for young families, as there is no outside space for children to play...

This rental is a true gem.. A remarkable property, situated close to the mountains and the sea, in the unremarkable village of Llanrug. It is a fabulous 1st floor apartment in a converted chapel. On entering we all experienced the wow factor. The pictures don't do it justice. It is quirky and at the same time luxurious. A great property for a group special occasion with loads of space and high end ,original furnishings and homely touches. This property is a 5 star gem . We would highly recommend it and will definitely be back.

Myself and two friends booked this cottage for the entire of Christmas. The building is beautiful and has tons of character, which original wood work. We cooked Christmas dinner and sat at a beautiful table over looking original windows. Dez, the property owner lives in the outhouse away from the property and we had the entire property to ourselves the entire stay. He is very friendly and you hardly know he's there. He talked about renovation of the building and that he's kept as much of the original features as possible. The whole stay was fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone who likes character and a beautiful converted building.

Totally unreasonable landlord which led to events involving the police. He has a discreet internal door from his hidden residence underneath directly into your living area. He likes to let himself in when you're not home as we discovered. The place looks lovely and it is but stay somewhere else, it's not worth the hassle.

This is a fairly long story but I'll try and keep it as short as I can. Firstly this holiday let has it's own grave yard, if this doesn't bother you, try this. As you walk through the front door, to the left is a secret door that leads to the owners section of the building. It doesn't look like a door and cannot be locked from the accomodation side. The owner can and does come and go as he pleases. We didn't realise it was a door until we had to involve the police. Also, as I experienced first hand, the owner leaves the premises unoccupied with candles burning in his half of the building. Not very safety conscious!! My son booked this let in rather a hurry and inadvertantly booked for 4 adults and 2 children, there was infact 6 adults and 2 infants one aged 2 years & one aged 10months. This shouldn't have made any difference so we weren't unduely worried. However on the Tuesday the owner decided this was over booked. My son offered to pay more, but on return from a day out at 7pm in the evening on the Wednesday the owner had entered the accomodation internally and wedged something in the key hole locking us out. He wouldn't answer his phone. Sykes cottages informed my son that the owner would open the door in the morning and may give access to the belongings locked inside. This included nappies and baby food. What kind of person throws families with infants out into the night without warning?? The police were called who eventually got us into the building. This was 8.30 in the evening. It cost us in total another £645 for hotel accomodation(and we were lucky to find this) and our holiday cut short by 1 night. He has refused to give any refund. Avoid.
