We stayed 3 nights in this comfortable house. On arrival we were blown away with how clean the house was. In these COVID times the owners had gone the extra mile to ensure our safety. Eve the TV remote had been cleaned and packed in plastic. To make us welcome we found tea, coffee, bread, butter and a lovely bottle of Pinot Grigio. Ideally placed for a large number if walks, it is only a short stroll to the Golden Cock, we’re the food was excellent and the staff amazing. Highly recommended

Despite the bad weather over which we none of us has control, we enjoyed our stay at Butts Cottage.. We named the cottage "the house of plenty" as there was plenty of space; plenty of storage; plenty of equipment and an array of provisions which were most welcome after a challenging journey due to weather and traffic problems. The cottage is comfortably furnished and the downstairs loo proved useful. The village of Farnley Tyas is friendly - we attended the coffee morning at the local church and were made most welcome by the parishioners. The cottage backs on to woodland and we were entertained each morning while having breakfast by the local wildlife. There is much to do in the local area and our only disappointment was being unable to use the picnic table as the cottage due to the weather!

Butts cottage is exceptionally clean with very comfortable beds, good linens etc.. A more than generous supply of fruit, biscuits, wine, bread, butter. A plentiful book supply and we thoroughly enjoyed reading Amanda Owen, the shepherdess. A downside was the local pub just 5 min walk away had just closed down. There are others but a drive away. Walks from cottage are good, bus to Huddersfield 3 mins away. A very good area for walking and sightseeing. Views from Victoria Tower on castle hill are amazing. Steps to the top give even better views.

Super cottage, well equipped and extremely comfortable.. Very good welcome pack of milk, bread, butter, biscuits and a large selection of fruit. Lovely scenery and places of interest to visit in the local area and further afield. One of the best cottages we've had!

Welcome packs, eg: fruit bowl, sweets, basic food such as milk, butter etc exceeded expectations did lack a tea cosy.. The single bedroom lacked a chair to sit on, and a mirror. Not serious complaints, easily overcome. Once again one of the best holiday cottages we have had in recent years. Many thanks, John Hudson

The cottage was very comfortable in a good area.. The owners had left bread, milk, tea coffee, bottle of wine and fruit. All of this was gratefully received as it saved us having to rush out and buy, especially after a long journey. There were plenty of leaflets for a large area, but we would have liked more of the local walks.. It was so nice to sit in the garden as well as being very comfortable in the cottage. The beds were also comfortable ans was all the furniture downstairs. In all it made a great holiday and certainly value for money.

Image to the rear of the cottage slightly misleading as the view was taken in early spring which means that there was no view when leaves on trees.. Also the entrance to the cottage is on a bend which makes it awkward when you have to reverse in. Otherwise we had an excellent holiday which was made even better by the super weather.

Excellent cottage, very clean and well presented, home from home and Paul and Joyce had thought of everything.. The extensive welcome pack was much appreciated. Overall experience fully up to expectations and one of the best Sykes cottages where we have holidayed. Highly recommended.

We needed a place to stay while visiting family so were pleased to find this little gem of a cottage in a lovely location.. The owners have put a lot of thought into providing a very comfortable, warm and homely place to stay with lots of welcome extra touches. Enjoyed the comfy bed and the really good quality bed linen. Spacious shower. Loads of storage space in the bedrooms, plenty of hangers. Loved having a tumble dryer as the weather was too wet to hang out my bits of washing. The owners had even left a large bowl of fresh fruit on the dining table ( which they had set out with placemats and napkins!) Milk, bread, butter, wine and a really lovely tray of tea/coffee/biscuits had also been left for us. The lighting in the cottage was just perfect......lots of options for bright light or subdued. We were also very pleased to find such a clean cottage. The utensils and pans etc in the kitchen were spotless as was the cooker and microwave. We would definitely book this cottage again and hope to make a return visit soon. To anyone thinking of booking Butts Cottage......just do!!

The cottage is in a great location.. Both close to the Peak District as well as South Yorkshire. Walks do literarelly start at the doorstep. The house is well appointed, great kitchen, diningroom, bedrooms and bathroom. The owners surprised us with fresh fruit, milk and bread as well as biscuits and tea. All the comforts of home, away from home. The only thing that needs some inprovement are the couch and seats in the living area. These can be a bit uncomfortable. But this is the only thing we found not totally right. If we ever go on holiday again in this area, I will book this place again.

We stayed for a week at this cottage. The owners provided us with milk, bread, tea and biscuits. The cottage is very comfortable with everything you need for your stay. A very well appointed kitchen. a lovely dining/sitting area and lovely bedrooms. A nice garden at the back with a picknicktable completes the whole picture. The bathroom is also great. The only drawback I can think of, is that hte seats and sofa in the sitting area are not the most comfortable ones. The owners provide a lot of information about the area around the cottage and the walks indeed start at your frontdoor. All in all, I couldn't think of a better place to stay if you're on a walking holiday. The golden cock is a few minutes walking away, as wel as the busstop. We had our meals at the golden cock. A lovely pub with good beer and very good food.

Butts Cottage was the perfect holiday home, a quaint 200 year old property with furnishings and bed linens of a very high quality plus a well equipped kitchen.. We arrived to find a much appreciated welcome pack, which included milk, bread, butter, biscuits, a basket of fruit and a bottle of wine - all much appreciated! The garden birds and squirrels were a constant source of entertainment and we met the owner who kindly left us a good supply of peanuts etc. to keep them coming. The cottage itself is in a quiet village - nice to return to after busy days out - and there's lots to see and do in the surrounding area. We especially enjoyed visits to Holmfirth (Last of the Summer Wine), the National Mine Museum near Wakefield (ideal for a rainy day) and the very quirky Oil Can Café, all highly recommended. Initially I was concerned about the staircase being a bit steep for my 89 year old mother - but there are handrails on both sides of the stairs and a hand grip at the top, which meant she managed the stairs with ease. This is a delightful property and I would highly recommend it.
